- Merry Christmas!
What is the most remarkable is the time it was recorded: only three months after the European Theater of WWII and three days after the Pacific War ended. I am not quite sure whether this is a psychological effect on my part or something else, but I did feel it sounds a bit different from his other rendering of this work.
I am a great admirer of Kempff’s artistry. But this rendition has something unstable in his choice of tempi. Almost like he is fleeing something just to come back in the end with force and unwavering demand. Extreme rubati and portamenti. Super interesting tape!!!
A wonderful, majestic rendering with beautiful contrasts between the exultant and triumphant and the gentle and flowing. I do have a question, though. Am I alone in thinking I hear an F natural in the final tonic G major chord or do others hear it as well?

Thank you so much for this heavenly piece masterfully played by Wilhelm Kempff
Remarkable that date this was played/recorded...
Incredible playing and recorded sound.
Incredible work of him and you remastering it
This happy melody makes me sad

Yes very unlike his style. Very intense. And it is so much better
W. K had a psychological relapse possibly

Yes. I agree. Sounds like he struck the F accidentally. A live recording?
