    Hardware Unboxed has influenced EVERY one of my purchases since Skylake, when you took over the "main" role Steve you've constantly produced quality content with the most informative and "least bloated" content across TH-cam. I appreciate your efforts so much and am so glad for your channel. I've learned a great deal from your videos beyond just "the latest and greatest" and appreciate your no nonsense approach to tech videos. Kuddos to you and i hope for many more years of quality information and informative content!

      @Desktopia Just because a cpu is slower doesn't mean it's a bad result or it's a bottleneck. i5's are almost always slower than i7's, that doesn't make them bad cpu's or a bottleneck. There is no game here that is unplayable at 1080p with a 3600, the 3600 is just slower. Maybe someday a 3600 will be a bottleneck or be a "bad cpu". It's not in 2020.

    • @nioliner7762
      @nioliner7762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +100

      @Desktopia Pay hundreds of dollars more for 10-20 fps so that you can play games at 150 fps instead of 140. The difference is almost imperceptible when the fps is that high and the 1% lows are that close to the average. Of course in the future, it may hinder the performance even further but for the ppl who already have the 3600, 3080 is just fine for 1440p and above.

      You know when we say the 3600 is a budget CPU, we usually don't opt for a liquid cooler. These people are using liquid cooling for the 3600 while testing and that changes the fps numbers. Ryzen CPUs are temperature sensitive. Watch gamers nexus's video if you don't know.

    • @anhiirr
      @anhiirr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@S.Madman well in regards to 3950x vs I9 OC.....the 3950x can hit 4.5+ on 8 cores....and SMT off also yields "RESULTS"...the I9 OC is like 300tdp....the 3950x with 8c is like 75w...and all core 100-125w max. For me with intent of owning my system/motherboard etc for 5 years+ until i feel forced to build ddr5 am5 socket. The 3600 performance for pure gaming is why people like it bc the b450 to zen3 board eventual support as far as the ones that will are in 2021 anyways as far as the bios/flash. It furthers the zen2 selloff or etc...vs the AFFIRMATION of current owners....im talking FUTURE owners much like this video is implying viability...as well as amperes inherently better input latency vs 2080ti for example with zen2....not that it will ever be on par with zen3...but just a furthered aspect of 3080s viability with a 3600 pre zen3 upgrade. Plus they can also stream with that Cpu if the game they are playing only uses 2 cores for example like a casual game/moba/arpg etc.....But yeah playing games while installing 4tb ques of game libraries from steam/Xbox into my ssd and nvme simultaneously while getting as hot as a 4.4 3600 and only using 105tdp...is pretty XD...while also streaming netflix or etc..on a secondary panel. It does it and asks for more. The future proof too is nice. I can always sell my chip for like 500 to buy the zen3 option. For the out of pocket cost of a 5600x...since the 5950x will be 800$. Its how i am able to upgrade...by selling. Imagine trying to sell a 1700x system or 2700/2700x system in this day and age. The now 5600x price point. Look at howmany 3600s are being sold used....one of the reasons they had to stop making the other zen2 chips 4c4t 4c8t etc. It also showcased how bad SMT was in various gaming scenarios i guess thats why amd wanted to silence that basic concept.

    I'd love to see this repeated with a 3070 and what ever $500 gpu AMD releases. This test shows that spending more of your budget on GPU and getting a mid/low grade CPU is going to get you more vs. Getting a "matching" level CPU/GPU.

    • @fishyc43sar

      And some BoomerTubers like Jayz will still say "too weak a CPU for such a strong GPU" and people get influenced by that.
      Basically 3600 is almost future proof and a good "value for price" CPU. Whether it's a 2070 Super/5700xt to a 3080 (or even better?), 3600 is all you need. Unless you just "wanna spend for moar Coars" (well, I agree they have a purpose) and go with a 3700x or 10700k.

    A good question to answer would be (probably can already be answered by your existing cumulative data at this point) is:
    - What do I get if I invest a total of 1000 USD on CPU + GPU with approx. 500 spent on CPU and 500 spent on GPU vs. 250 spent on CPU and 750 spent on GPU. Is it 100% certain that 750 GPU with 250 CPU would ALWAYS win? Or, is it in fact a case-by-case situation. Now, of course, I am not talking about 500 or 750 USD GPUs from the current line-up but like if we take 2080ti (since 3070 will be at this level) as the 500 USD GPU and 3080 as the 750 USD GPU. Then obviously, 500 USD CPU could either be a 10900k/10850k or 5800X, and 250 USD CPU could either be 3600x/xt or i5 10600K. I beg you two answer this question.

    • @Whitecloud316
      @Whitecloud316 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. But that only matters if u are going to build pc from zero. But for those like me that have Ryzen 5 3600 and want to upgrade the GPU with better one like this one in the video (RTX 3080) to play on 1440p 144Hz monitor or above, then this combination is fine as shown in the graphs of the video. Yes, ufc u will lose vs the new CPU/GPU that just came. That is normal. The question is ..is the performance smooth and good still or not and u have to upgrade and the CPU as well. Yeah i will have ~30 fps less on avg vs 5600x on 1440p , but is that such a big problem? No. It is not cuz with my 3600 i still will have way above 60 fps for smooth gameplay with high settings (the so called minimum). If u dont see the numbers u wont tell what cpu is in the pc....cuz the dif. is not like 3600 has 30fps and 5600x has 100fps. So i have my 3600 for ~2 years now and i will just gonna get 3080 when i can get a hands on for my 1440p monitor.

So I went with the 3600 (which I got for $180), RTX 3070 (paid over MSRP @ $700), B550 wifi for $120, 32GB 3600mhz G.skill cl 18 @ $110, 650W modular Gold Corsair PSU @ $90, Phantex p300A @ $50, a 6-pack of fans for $35, 1TB NVME for $110, 4TB HDD for $105.
    My data shows I'm barely reaching 40% usage of my CPU, while I'm always using over 80% of my GPU, and over 70% of my RAM. But unfortunately, I can't afford a better GPU for at least a year or two now (with the way things are going... Maybe if the Bitcoin drops). I'm still happy with it. I don't mind waiting 20 second for a render instead of 8 second. When I make a video render... That's where it hurts (2 hours instead of 45 minutes if I had the 3080).

    Hello HW unboxed, small idea.. can you do a video cpu comparison (maybe also with the new Zen 3) at fixed frequency for all the cpus? to test efficiency, IPC, etc at exactly same frequency for all, of course need to be lowered on Intel, considering the older Ryzen can't go over 4Ghz so easily (maybe 4ghz for all is a good benchmark). It's an interesting comparison to see how they perform at same speed, same for ddr4 memory. Usually Intel cpus frequencies are quite higher at stock than overclocked Ryzen, interesting to see how they perform at same settings to valuate better performance per core, price. Thank you, you're the best hardware channel on YT, good tech content but easy to watch.
