    This new series of advanced slap bass lessons by Scott Whitley aims to provide a wealth of techniques, ideas and inspiration to help take your slap playing to the next level! Here Scott aims to provide all the 'nitty-gritty' details often missing in video tutorials.
    Scott has played or recorded with Steve Cropper, The Animals, The Casuals, Ric Lee's Natural Born Swingers, Linda Gail Lewis, Maggie Bell, Dave Berry, Eric Bell, The Rubettes, Chris Farlowe, Zoot Money, The Boomtown Rats, The Chip Kendall Band, Roo Walker, Philippa Hanna, Paul Guard, Dawn Elektra, Rob Livesey, Will Tang as well as fronting his own band - The Scott Whitley Quartet.
    In these videos he shares his wealth of bass knowledge accumulated over more than 25 years of bass playing.

    Thanks for the outstanding lesson Scott as well as the patience in teaching. I've played for years but out of the loop for 5 years now and using youtube to catch up again and glad I ran into you. Also, I have noticed, a lot of the great bassists on Yourtube are from Europe and mostly all are outstanding. Thanks again and I will stay tuned to you for more help.

    Greatest video I've seen about double thumbing! I have one very specific question though. During the slap hit (especially on the hit going up) am I supposed to put tension on my thumb or is it more of a full hand movement? Should I use more the thumb tendon or is it more about wrist rotation?
    Thainks for this lovely video!

    • @ScottWhitley
      @ScottWhitley  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mrsandalis1 Hi there! I've just been checking this out and I would say you need to make your thumb pretty rigid on the 'up' movement. So I'd say the thumb stays pretty rigid and most of the movement is from the wrist!
      Hope that helps. :-)

      Joe Abraso Cresseri Hi Joe! This can be tricky at first. Without being there it's hard to advise, but what I would say is keep the movements as small as you can and you could try touching your pinky finger onto the front of the bass and using it as a sort of anchor/way of steadying your hand.

      Scott Whitley yes Santana from 72-73
      Floated around from 69-71 (check out the tune *“Attitude” by Giants* 1971) then did the Jazz Fusion thing in the mid70s
      but by ‘76 he was getting deep into heroin and started missing/losing alotta gigs... One of his last albums (that I know of at least) that he made was with Prisoner Ike White - “Changin’ Times” 1976(7?) {very good album by the way...it was recorded when that dude was in jail! don’t ask me how they did that}
      But after that, he got deep into the smack habit, and died a few years later..
      Doug was one of the Unsung Greats..

      Hi ThePUNISHER012345! The ibanez is capable of sounding pretty funky tbh! It could need new strings - they make a HUGE difference for this kind of technique. Also make sure the tone control is up full. Hope that helps. :-)

      Not as such. But if you let it heal (which it will have done by now) it will be tougher in future...

    Is there any way you can post a tab of the intro bass line?

      Hi Alex - hope you're well! Still playing? The song is one written by a friend of mine (still going to finish recording the whole thing one day).
      I did manage to get some finished however including this one:

      Hya, Craig! It's a Lodestone Primal Scream I believe. I fitted it out with a Dimarzio P pickup. :)
