Glad to hear you're doing well. Good that you're still playing, even if less frequently.
@@ScottWhitley Right now, I'm more focused on programming and drone piloting (jobs)
That's great re the drone jobs! I had a period of getting very serious about photography as it happens.

Great video! Can you explaiin to me how to use the popping (pluck) during the double thumb execution? Thank you Scott
Hi Michele - hopefully I'll cover this in a new lesson soon!
scott rulz ¡¡¡ thanks
Thanks!! How's it going - you still playing bass?
Scott.
wtf this is too good
Lol - I'll take that, Sergio. Cheers. :)
Greatest video I've seen about double thumbing! I have one very specific question though. During the slap hit (especially on the hit going up) am I supposed to put tension on my thumb or is it more of a full hand movement? Should I use more the thumb tendon or is it more about wrist rotation?
Thainks for this lovely video!
mrsandalis1 Hi there! I've just been checking this out and I would say you need to make your thumb pretty rigid on the 'up' movement. So I'd say the thumb stays pretty rigid and most of the movement is from the wrist!
Hope that helps. :-)
Thank you Scott! I can't think of a single thing to ask you, because you hit on every single question I could think to ask like no one else does. Oh ok, one question. Who makes the white bass you use in some vids? Thank you so much....Mike in Florida
Hi Mike! Hope you're well. I think it's the Lodestone you're referring to...
Kindest regards,
Scott.
Superb... wahhh
Thanks so much! Hope you're keeping well...
Scott.
man, that's awesome!! and i saw on your credits, you use a zoom B3 multieffect pedal?
Is it a good stuff?
Thanks very much! How you keeping?
Yes - the Zoom bass FX line-up are fabulous imho.
Scott.
wow.. it's victor wooten technique.. i'm impressive
Cheers Rito,
Scott.
What kind of bass is that? I love the slightly funky look!
Cheers Patrick - hope you're well!
It's a Lodestone Primal Instinct.
Scott.
Great details in the lesson . Those Rotosounds get some really nice tone . 30 to 90 must be easy on the hands .
somehow your face reminds me of the young keith emerson
great lesson man i can play slapping already but i think i will be able to doublethumb soon too ^^
Many many thanks! Didi you get to grips with it in the end? Hope you're well,
Scott.
really helpful explanations n Awesome playing ...!! .. thx a lot..! may i know what gauge strings you are playing with..
+Manas Chowdhary I think they were Rotosound Funkmaster 30-90
+Scott Whitley thx so much for ur reply ...I use .45 --1.05 N struggling for quite sometime.. He he love the fat lows n wish to double thumps too .. 😇
Scott you're an amazing teacher! what's song is that at the intro?
Hi there - hope you're well.
I think I answered this but can't fin the reply lol. It's a tune written by a good friend of mine called Roo Walker. It's STILL not finished lol, but this one is...
th-cam.com/video/vsecejgH1HU/w-d-xo.html
Great video mate!!
I'm having issues with the G string though, not having another string to land on with my thumb screws up my sense of positioning and I always get stuck or miss the string in the upstroke park..
Any tips or suggestions?
Thank you mate!!
Joe Abraso Cresseri Hi Joe! This can be tricky at first. Without being there it's hard to advise, but what I would say is keep the movements as small as you can and you could try touching your pinky finger onto the front of the bass and using it as a sort of anchor/way of steadying your hand.
awesome lessons thanks for the share of knowledge , i loved the bass what pickups use ?
...they are Dimarzio, with an EMG BTC control preamp. :-)
Scott Whitley sounds amazing !
yeah, Larry may have had it goin on a little,
but the Late *Doug Rauch* was the _Real_ Pioneer of this technique..
Thanks, Learn Something for this - I actually LEARNED SOMETHING myself. Tried to find TH-cam uploads of him but seemed tricky. He played with Santana, is that correct?
Thanks again,
Scott.
Scott Whitley yes Santana from 72-73
Floated around from 69-71 (check out the tune *“Attitude” by Giants* 1971) then did the Jazz Fusion thing in the mid70s
but by ‘76 he was getting deep into heroin and started missing/losing alotta gigs... One of his last albums (that I know of at least) that he made was with Prisoner Ike White - “Changin’ Times” 1976(7?) {very good album by the way...it was recorded when that dude was in jail! don’t ask me how they did that}
But after that, he got deep into the smack habit, and died a few years later..
Doug was one of the Unsung Greats..
I am working on technique for this. I get too much fuzz when I go though the string.
+longshelton How are you getting on now with this?
what bass is that in the video? great lesson btw
Many thanks - hope you're keeping well!
It's a Lodestone Primal Instinct bass.
Kindest regards,
Scott.
Hi, I have a doubt, if you can help me. when I pop the thumb with the rope shaves both the nail that gets filled powder in the pickup area and will making a hole in the nail. is normal or am I doing it wrong? Thank you.
what does this lodestone play like, im considering getting one
Scott, well done... but you forgot Louis Johnson, and Mark King......
Hail Britannia! Wanna be in a band?
Many thanks!! Two of my fav's there. Hopefully these two vids make up for it lol. How you keeping btw?

please adopt me ahhahah you're awesome, great job Scott.
Haha! How are you keeping? Still playing?
Scott.
These videos have been very helpful, but I have one question: I know the action on one's bass should be low while slapping, but whenever I attempt to set it lower on my Fender P-bass, I always get a very unbecoming fret buzz. Do you have any tips?
Errr - I'm a bit late on this one lol. Did you get the answers back in the day? How you keeping btw - till playing?
Scott.
Hey man, ADVICE ME, what are the best strings for slapping (and picking) on the average market?
Round wound 30-90 on long scale is what I use, or 35-95 on short scale.
Hope you're well and still playing!
Scott.
15:150 "I don't know what it's called"
Cuticle.
Oh, that's the bottom of the nail - I'm wrong.
👍
Great lesson, what kind of bass guitars would u recommend for slap, i have an ibanez 305 and i realized its hard to slap with the low b and it just doesnt have that funky sound
Hi ThePUNISHER012345! The ibanez is capable of sounding pretty funky tbh! It could need new strings - they make a HUGE difference for this kind of technique. Also make sure the tone control is up full. Hope that helps. :-)
learn the technique but hwve a huge blister on my thumb. any way to prevent this?
Not as such. But if you let it heal (which it will have done by now) it will be tougher in future...
Is there any way you can post a tab of the intro bass line?
I will be doing a lesson on this at some point in the future :-)
Scott Whitley still waiting man
What is that song at the beginning
Hi Alex - hope you're well! Still playing? The song is one written by a friend of mine (still going to finish recording the whole thing one day).
I did manage to get some finished however including this one:
th-cam.com/video/vsecejgH1HU/w-d-xo.html
What make is that bass?
It's a Lodestone, Bob. Coincidentally I've just purchased another! :O
What is that song
a close shoot of your right hand would have been better ....... still very knowledge giving video.
+Saziz Rahul Cheers Saziz.
:-)
What bass is that? It's proper taters...
Hya, Craig! It's a Lodestone Primal Scream I believe. I fitted it out with a Dimarzio P pickup. :)
lol a guy called victor wooten.
Thanks for this wonderful lesson!
My absolute pleasure! Hope you're keeping well...
Scott.
