I think I'm scraping down and up (not just down) and there's some involvement of the edge of the thumb on the way up as well. A lot of my playing seems to be my hands finding some sound that I like hearing and me repeating it and learning how to make it without being sure what it is that I'm doing. It's not something I sat down and worked out in slow motion and learned how to do. It's something that emerged in my playing unbidden and I kept it because I like the way it sounds.
awesome video. I like how you changed around the song and put your own flare on it. It'd be great if you zoomed out the camera just a little bit to see both hands. thanks.
Over the years I've done a lot of experimenting with the sounds my hands can make by trying to keep my right hand open to unorthodox movement and listening closely to my playing as though I was listening to someone else. When I heard sounds I liked, I would gravitate to repeating them. But, for a lot of it, I really don't know exactly what it is that I'm doing. I just have the sound in my mind and my hands seem to find it.
Hey Marc, You don't happen to have an album of your music to you if so I would buy one. You are a great musician great inspiration to me and my band are playing. Thanks for sharing your music with use.
Hey Marc. I have been playing banjo since I was 7, and I am now 16, and I have NO idea how you make that sound...I don't know how to explain it but it looks like you are using all four of your fingers and you're like...scraping down all the strings at once...I REALLY like the way that sounds and want to know how to do it. If you can understand what I'm trying to say and you could tell me how to do it, I'd surely appreciate it! Love all your videos, and I learn ALOT from watching them. Thanks!
I ran across your channel the other day and I am very impressed with you, particularly your doing blues on the banjo. Have you ever thought about doing video lessons?
