Pretty cool. I reckon the Tesla and Boston Dynamics teams will learn a lot from each other very quickly - even if they do not collaborate.
You mean tesla will learn a lot from BD. Wtf would BD learn from a nonexistent tesla bot
@@ArcticPrimalI wish people had the mental fortitude to do a quick google search before making baseless claims such as that
@@ArcticPrimal Design for manufacturability. AI. Teslabot exists, as you're of course aware.
I’m super impressed with the ability to change direction 180, without doing the two-step shuffle.
Previously I thought "wheels" would fix that, now I see that as too limiting (climbing inability).
Cheers from San Diego
When the ring light turns red, you are...
Marked for termination! 😮
Runnnnnn!!!!!!!!!😂
f#@ked... and better run...
Wrong answers only💡

Seeing this bot and knowing DARPA is involved you can see the logic behind setting the goal of not just replicating human capability, but exceeding it. Very impressive. Lots of potential for specialization.
I thought the first Atlas was scary. This new one just looks like it could go crazy on you.
😂
1m x 1m martial arts jigsaw mats with 11 jigsaw connections per a side. Most common size around, I think.
Pushing the boundaries robot ! 👍
The gym mats look like the ones I have, which are 2’ squares.
Slipring electrical connections between joints. Good one, allows 360 deg rotation without wires breaking.
Thats some major improvements.
simultaneously cool and disturbing
The control of balance is amazing considering it looks like it's almost falling over when it stands up.
Man, if BD can get the brains of this thing right, this is easily the first widely commercially available humanoid bot. Expect to see it fixing roads and houses/commercial buildings in a town near you soon…
if the soft floor tiles are a 1 meter square, them I estimate its about 170cm tall
It's great to hear Scott's insights on the bot's kinematics after he's had a day to study the design. The quick reverse movements are ingenious. The problem with BD is that they have such a long history of choreographed demos, it's hard to know if they are good at end to end AI. This demo of Atlas 2 looks totally pre-programmed. I hope they will put out a voice controlled demo along the lines of the Figure speech reasoning demo to show that they have some AI chops. In general I really like what they've done with Atlas 2 except for those industrial looking forearms and hands. I'd like to see a much more compact wrist and more human like hand, and for superhuman ability, I'd like to see a telescoping forearm so that it could reach far away stuff without having to walk as far.
When I look at this thing I see that it has not been optimized for manufacture. That, to me, is key to the magic of Tesla's bot: Low Price and high volume.
This is a fantastic first electric robot for Boston Dynamics. However if it is fully neurotically coded still has there really been that much change? Yeah it's great that it can walk well already and great flexibility. Kudos.
Can it learn on its own by just watching and then doing? Sure there will be jobs it can displace that are mind numbingly repetitive, but it may be trapped in that particular market.
Hyundai is the parent company of BD and they know how to build stuff at low cost. What is it that looks hard to manufacture on Atlas compared to the Teslabot? I think Tesla should rework their awkward pelvis design since BD and Figure have shown a much better approach. Atlas 2 looks like a more rugged industrial design than Teslabot, but I suspect they will come out with another version before they go to production.
@@JMeyer-qj1pv Tesla is an innovation machine. They'll never stop improving it.
All I got to say is 100 years from now I hope we still have control of these things because that machine could clearly overpower many people.
Question: are there any benefits from these beyond-human degrees of freedom? cus i would imagine they will be training the neural net with human operator wearing some sort of suit, and since human can't twist like that, how would you train the NN to move beyond human's physical limits?
They could train it in simulated environments like the Nvidia Isaac Sim that is part of project Gr00t. Also as AI models become more sophisticated, the need for teleoperated training will evaporate since the bot will be able to learn by watching or receiving commands, and it will be able to easily translate it into the most efficient movements for its own body. Then you get the huge benefit of superhuman fast movements which will increase productivity. Having quick reverse will make it much easier for Atlas to navigate tight spaces like a person's home.
Mankind is dead
Blood is fuel
Hell is full
Major horror movie vibe, but looks utilitarian.
Great show, guys! 👍
Great discussion.
What a contortionist!
Other observations:
1. Ventilation grill in rib area under arm
2. Lower end of rib cage appears to be scuffed up if not dented.
A tough, strong, and versatile machine. Certainly an example of bullish robotic R&D, and precursor to a massive paradigm shift in the forecast for productivity. This Atlas has come closest to being a "Battle-Bot", and there are eyes on this space in every military forecast, or should be(...?)
With regards to the claws on Industrial Robots it is very common to employ End Effectors that are task specific and can be rapidly swapped with other End Effectors. This allows for very efficient tasks. prior to retirement we had End Efffectors that would grip parts then rotate to load the next part. The process would wear out after a while and the process measured and triggered an action to swap End Effector to a wrench and adjust the tool. All this happens automatically and saved stopping production to have an operator enter the caged area to manually make the adjustment.
Awesome!
WOW! 👍👍
It really reminds me of the robot from the new "Lost in space" series.
Looks like the hands are designed to also function as an additional set of feet.
Wondering if they've used custom designed electric motors, or if they're using more off-the-shelf.
You can use the hand for scaling to know how big this robot is. The hand is in the other hydraulic robot videos, and we know how big that robot was, so we can use the hand to measure how big the new robot is. Based on the hand, I'd say this robot is quite short, four feet tall.
Isn't there supposed to be an arm swing to balance the feet movement, Or if this is not necessary at all for a bot opposed to natural human movement
btw Boston Dyn has the video in 4k on their youtube channel. Not sure why you are working with that X video quality :)
You could make an analysis of ASIMO, just for nostalgia 🤖 Could Honda also make a comeback?
I think the infinite directional capability of the bot is essential longterm.. Is optimus capable of this??
How tall is the window sill?
How does the window sill height compare to knee of bot?
never ever doubt BD, no matter what your local Tesla super fan says, BD is the leader in robotics. The team at BD have been building the frame / lower motor (brain function) for a long time and when you eventually couple this with some sort of AI from who ever actually gets it done you will have an instant terminator. There is no other company with the depth of bench like BD when it comes to the frame. They are just not an AI company beyond the ML they had to do to get the stability controllers to work for balance and recovery. So all hail your no T-100, we did not listen to Sarah........ sadly
Count the ribs on the side of the mat squares. I don't own a PC so I can't really get close enough to see.
You might want to reload this in 1080. The video quality is not so great.
The noise is a drone taking the video.
Waiting for the "Terminator" head option.
It is important that robots have a head that doesn't look threatening. The flash light look is not that bad. My proposal is to make all robots have Johnny No.5 or a Wall-E head.
More like the Robot from the Lost ìn Space remake. White ring light neutral, blue ring light calm, red ring light- DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
Long live the King!🤴 🎉
A Cobot needs to fit into suitcase.
And we all know what the double 0 means, licensed to kill in the field, at their discretion, to complete the mission 😢
Does it charge through its feet?
wait for another 10 years until we get any more update
I remember owning a Motorola Flip Phone - it was fantastic.
Then one day, Apple released the iPhone, and I stood in line to get one.
Why?
Apps. That was such a novel concept back then - millions of programmers writing all kinds of apps
to be added to the phone - nobody ever thought of that.
Elon is headed down the same path Boston Dynamics is way ahead of Elon on
The Terminator path - the robot that has no apps to it nor any extensions - just basically a robot flip phone.
It's going to be fun to watch Apple's little robot eat the Terminators alive
like a school of Parana eating a python alive that got into their space.
Oh well, pass the popcorn...and watch the iPhone event happen all over again
BTW, on the topic of BOTs, AI, a GAI I just added a video on my TH-cam channel that shows how one might better interact with using just paper and a pencil and a cell phone (what I am calling YACK (Your Added Color Keys) and Double Talk (YACK YACK) a graphical controller that one can create with just a pencil and paper and a cell phone..
Also as you have argued that an embodied AI might help bring one closer and faster to a GAI what you may mean is that an Ontology model will do so and that a Robot in one sense is much like an ontology model in that it must model the world in which it interacts.
As such even a disembodied AI that has its own Ontology models of the world might serve much the same purpose and UniML plus one can use that model to interact with the AI/Bot as well
12:47 Actually, it's called Boston Dynamics 😂
😳 This thing is frightening. Ever see the Exorcist? Definitely an “Unhumanoid” robot. Yikes!
now that a robot :) im not a fan of the way they made the tesla bot have human limitations like Y wouldn't give it full limb rotation i mean the BD bot is going to be way faster with a screwdriver then the T bot & maybe its cheaper/faster to make a Tbot but the BDbot will do jobs much better & faster
AMEE was born ...
Metroid prime dread
Optimus will develop faster. Just waiting on the video where they have 5 Optimai (plural) building a house in 10 minutes... Jaw drops across the world. Stock price leaves the OORT cloud.
Wait until you see the face!
The antenna sticking up on the head is awkward! Too scary etc.
reminded me of Chappie
do NOT give that robot a couple silver dollars and a hand gun.
And they had the Cult culture! So any Japanese robots from car companies?
Toyota Motor Corporation
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd
Honda Motor Co., Ltd
Suzuki Motor Corporation
Mazda Motor Corporation
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation
Subaru Corporation
Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd
Why dont they make Like 6 Feet 5 Tall humanoid?
Why Elon hasn’t acquired Boston dynamics is beyond me
Because it's owned by Hyundai?
@@rogerstarkey5390 ok, thank you
they came close to this point in a bit more than a year with tesla, which took boston dynamics 40 years
All of the BD products have a dystopian air to them. Perhaps designed for military use rather than a personal helper?
They do all seem quite powerful.
Not anymore they have been owned and backed by several other companies since the DARPA days (Softbank, Google, Hyundai, etc). They even put out a statement and encouraged legislation to prohibit the use of robots for the military
lol Tbot VS BDbot in a jiu jitsu fight place your bets lol
Atlas 2 connected to a brain interface would be the ideal surrogate for dangerous work of pure _"ignorance"_
I being a single person would live to have one to train to walk the dog toss a toy to thr dog do the lawn help with handyman work
Humanoid robot will get there eventually
Its dumb to me it only has cameras in the front
for what exact reason?
did it learn to walk by watching pee-wee herman movies?
toes..?
Boston dynamics did not build humanoid robots before no they have been building humanoid robots since beginning because of people fear of robots they did not release it
Hold it. It's a ringlight. And scripted as usual.
You didn't comment on the ring light head design :) it's very zeitgeist movie catchy and kinda clever in that it makes sense to have light near the eyes for close examination. The bot has good proportions which the old one did not. While it's a nice design I do remark how long it took them to do the obvious and making the physical robot is the trivial part of an android so no immediate indication they will be leaders of anything. The movements seem far too disciplined to be machine learned but it's possible they hand code movements and let machine learning make them adaptive and robust. It's an amusing and pleasing design but will it make a difference...
Also the hands seem too crude for the real world. Of course that could be changed but why would they not after 20 years have figured out you need good hands. I would say at the very least 3 human style fingers and DOF. My uncle actually has that configuration on one hand and it looks completely natural :)
Instead of find this new bot super impressing and making a huge step forward in mobility and options, you make fun and are joking...I dont understand this really.
