      I'm glad to do it . I'm getting ready to move again ,and I'm finding all this stuff ! This is a bootleg I had in 1980,I bought it at a place in Glendale Calif. . When Randy came home to visit, I gave him a copy! He said he liked it ,but when the guy keeps yelling "Yeah " it just makes him laugh! I told him it made me want to punch him,Randy said" you would feel different if they were yelling at YOU! I thought,he's right ! But the it still bugs me . Randy was so cool ,I really miss him!

      thank you SO much for this. it's truly a gift to hear this. even though we get the essence of the era greatly captured with the tribute album, the slightly different riffs and vocal intonations here and there make it new and unique. actual time machine type stuff. i am so grateful

    While Kiss was the reason I picked up the guitar at 12, Randy's playing was the reason I wanted to get good. Thanks for this awesome video. So much raw energy!

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Me too exactly! KISS made me pick up the guitar, my neighbour, Randy Rhoads, made me realize 2 things,Ace was still cool ,but not as good as I tbought,because like the second or third lesson ,I said ,can you play his solo on Alive Ii at the end of Shock ME? He said ,yes ,I could play it for you by your next lesson,but do you want to learn it,or parts of it ? I said YES! So the next week he played a little Shock ME and the instrumental that goes into it,then he played the whole thing plus ,he brought in his Echo plex ,so,I was speechless because it was 10 times better ,and I learned as much as I could ,before we moved on. RANDY was such a nice but so talented it was crazy. He would and could play anything! I still miss him!

      @@MichaelDouglasSkewes - Brother you were so lucky to have known him in person. His mom was teaching music back then. My cousin took lessons from her in the 90s. She said she learned a lot from her. I played Ace in a tribute band back in 1996 - learned Ace's parts in like two days while riding around tin the Van. He has a pretty distinct style, but not too hard to pick up, as you said. The Kiss band crowds were great, but the make-up and boots suck. (Even the padded arm bands on the forearms keep catching on the back of my tremolo.) Ah the memories - thank heaven for Rock n' Roll and the memories it left us with.

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@fredacuneo5180 very cool ! I had a Randy Rhoads tribute band called blizzard in 1991- 1996 ,and we got big. Locally, and we played with Cold Gin ,and I had to keep telling Tommy Thayer how to act like ace ,he had the playing and the Alive costume, but you gotta suck in your cheeks ,walk around like you ,having trouble with gravity. I would NEVER have thought he would be fake frehley some day! But we did several shows ,it was a good line up, we also played with Alive , we were the only Randy ,or Ozzy band out at that time ,so we ended up playing to pretty big audiences ,and inept thinking ,it took a lot of work with my real band to go on tour ,and put out some records and tapes on an indie label, but here ,I'm playing my guitar teachers music . And we are packing then in. Oh well, it is onlly rock and roll ,and I am still playing and putting out albums ! Did you guys video any of your shows ,you can look up my bands ,but I have to get the Blizzard stuff put up on TH-cam!

      @@MichaelDouglasSkewes Hey Michael...do you really have concert videos of Randy? And if so will you be posting them anytime soon? Here it is again practically the anniversary of his passing and I'm out here trying to find anything of him that I might not have seen. It's such a freakin shame how little there is of Randy to see... especially clearly besides that after hours studio video. The biggest shame of it all is it's a fact that Sharon had parts of the Blizzard and especially the Diary tours professionally filmed yet won't release them. It's beyond comprehension and so damn infuriating! Bob Daisley talks about them on his website..as well as he has what's called The Holy Grail... recordings and videos of Randy. Hours. He's posted bits and pieces of the recordings on his website but also won't release the footage. Pretty sure it's for monetary reasons from what I remember reading. It's the biggest tragedy there is... besides losing Randy way too early..that there's crystal clear footage of him that they have but likely will never release. Anyhow .. I'd really love to see any videos you have man. Please do post them if you do cause there's millions of people hungry for anything with Randy!! You're really lucky to have studied gtr with him! @@maxmustardman298 Yeah,back n the 70s,there was a cool record store called The Turning Point,and they had import albums and bootlegs before anyone else,and they would order anything! I use to go there to buy KISS bootlegs and Led Zep,Alice Cooper bootlegs ! Since Randy was a home town guy,as soon as Blizzard of Ozz came out in the U.K ,they had it here,and every Blizzard tour in the UK and then he US Bootlegs just came flooding in! I got Bat's head soup on C.D. in the late 80s,I think that is the one where Randy's solo is messed up or cuts out r . Anyway,that is were I got this one on record and put it in storage for years! So when I digitized it, I ran it through Garage Band and gave it a little kick! But,my Mom was buying Elvis Bootlegs buy the hundreds ,especially after he died,that is how I discovered Bootlegs! My Mom had the connections and well the rest is history! But,anyway,I had several Bootlegs of Blizzard before Randy came back from England! I actually gave him a few copies of the early shows,he thought it was cool that they had bootlegs out of him already!!!!

      @@MichaelDouglasSkewes interesting to hear that those bootlegs were even sold in shops, I would assume bands were after those who dealt with illegally taped concerts. I have heard Van Halen were really serious with bootlegers, and stuff in general that was not authorized.

    My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED!
    OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR:
    Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on!
    Sincerely,
    Gary Lagstrom

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess people don't read the description. Yes,this is a very early recording, from vinyl, and a little mastering through pro tools about 14 years ago. It has been posted since 2019 ,after I saw another very poor sounding post by someone else. It did turn out very well for being an album I got in 1981. Ozzy was pretty hit and miss ,but this is when he really was trying ,and playing to his home country,so if he could breakntheren,then it was onto the States,which is what happened ,but he got rid of the band that put him back in the position to be even bigger then he was ! So yeah,clicks and pops! You should have heard it before it was cleaned up!

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to make sure I did post that it was a remaster from a bootleg,it is an old one too ,just a white sleeve with a xerox copy of picture of ozzy and Randy! I should post the before version! @@MichaelDouglasSkewes That's cool that you played it for him and knew him! Most of the board recordings must have comp limiters on the master bus so they could get it consistently loud through the FOH but that kills the punch unlike this one someone with a stereo mic pair I think recorded and put on vinyl. It has punch and I don't mind the pops and clicks at all!

      Too many people claim they own the recordings CBS records are the ones that think they do,Sharlon doesn't think it's worth the money.

      I was THERE, on Sunday July 12th 1981, row three. Randy's ONLY Seattle appearance ever, and it ROCKED.
      Also saw Tommy Aldridge with Pat Travers a few months earlier at the Seattle Center Arena. Them were the days, before MTV killed rock and roll.

    Is this with Bob and Lee, or Rudy and Tommy. The drumming does not sound like Tommy?

      Bob and Lee ,this is 1980,Sharon still needed Bob to finish the 2bd Album,then the boot! Bob and Lee never made it to America with Ozzy,well Bob did for the first part of Bark at the Moon! I have one ofBob's Basses he played on that tour in 83.

      @@MichaelDouglasSkewes Any idea why Bob won't release the Holy Grail? If I remember correctly it's due to money issues which is such a shame. Really whatever the case is it's a shame since he has hours of recordings and films.

      @@mbass718 maybe Sharon thinks she owns them and will do anything to make the rest of his days pure hell. Whatever the reasoning, it sucks we aren't hearing them. I think I've heard him play some "teases" of those old tracks while doing interviews.

      A good remastered Blizzard tour,audience recording! I made a copy of this show for Randy,.......he loved it,but he was reminded that the Dot V would go out a lot easier! But his tech figured how he could make it stay in tune! He really got it stay in tune!

    I heard Randy used a ampeg vt40 at this show because his American marshalls wouldnt power up in england.

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No ,he wasn't allowed to bring that thing over there, Greg Leon let him borrow his Marshalls ,which where black and white, with a mod in the preamp and had EL34s , and he used those until Marshall endorsed him. And he basically got the same thing just three stacks ,and then 4 form the next tour.

      @@MichaelDouglasSkewes You know, RR was contracted to do one more OO album and this is why I believe Quiet Riot's Metal Health gave Carlos the credit. I have a hard time believing that CC wrote that record when the guitar tone was RR. Not to mention how drastically CC song writing and riffing changed.
