Trends are so tricky, I have a love hate relationship with trends. Because when I love an item or colour, when it’s not trendy then it’s almost impossible to find it. But at least when it’s trending then you will find a few options. I’ve learned my lesson, if something is a staple for me and it happens to be trending then I have to buy a couple pairs of variations so I can stock up for when it’s no longer trendy 😝
Oh my thoughts exactly! If I'm looking for something in mind, it can be so hard to find in Sydney when it isn't trendy. I love the variations that come out when something is on trend :) Thanks for watching x
Me, too, I love collared knits, like the simple polo shirts that are on trend now, so I’ve bought several while they’re still available. I love knits, and there is something about a collar that dresses them up, plus they bring the focus to the face, and off my bust.
Love your straight (to camera) fashion talk. I think trends should be about finding a new kind of piece to add to your style / permanent collection. Not gorging then discarding as seems to be encouraged and happen too often. Also, once one has a wardrobe of beloved, great quality “really me” pieces, fads seem to be less tempting. I keep looking at fashion magazines in the store trying to get that old magic feeling they used to give me, but they’re even more out of touch than before the pandemic, so I don’t buy them. Gowns photographed on the Scottish moors? How revolutionary! How relevant! Hopefully one of the September issues will be on this celestial plane, aimed at people without three summer homes, a gala to attend (and a horse), but in the meantime I deeply appreciate reality-based fashion viewpoints like yours.
I agree with your point about the trenchoat. It does feel like an excuse for retailers to sell us even more stuff. However I do like that trend because it offers opportunity to upcycle old or damaged trenchcoats into a new and fashionable item. I would not recommend destroying a perfectly good trenchcoat but there are ones with holes or faded colors that could have a whole new life this way.
I follow style to see if there is anything currently being sold that may be in my style. I am currently stocking up on bootcut and wide leg trousers and green. I really don't like 'themey' outfits so just look out for individual pieces I like.
I love platforms on combat boots and I think they can look cute on sandles too. I don't like when the platform is super chunky though. Oh and on high heels of course - platform pumps are easier to walk in than stilettos!
Yes im defn steering away from most trends...esp platform as a trend, im short and would love the height but they make an outfit look so heavy...clunky. i think they only look good with short dresses
I'm also trying to really break down trends and see whether they ACTUALLY look and feel good. I think some trends can work for some personal styles really well, but definitely not for all. Thank you so much for watching :)
My 2cents on the slightly gimmicky trench: is it a theme you love? A theme you live for whether or not it is part of the fashion cycle? Try it on. Be honest with yourself, but give it go. It may be your new go to.
I've always loved platform shoes (especially the more alternative styles). I have however never bought a pair before. I've never met anyone who said they were comfortable to wear. If I'm out and about I will usually walk a lot, almost all day. I've never felt a platform shoe was very practical for my life style. I wouldn't know when I could ever wear them. If I ever find a brand that's really comfortable for long walks, I might get it but right now my wardrobe doesn't have a need for it. Same for heels. I have one pair in the back of my closet just in case I need a formal shoe for a reception at work or a similar event. I haven't needed them in almost 10 years.
The worst trends this season, in my opinion, are the sheer fabrics (designers showed them without bras and obvious, bare nipples!), sparkly/glittery items and the belt skirt or micro-mini. I don’t think any of these trends are classic or enduring, nor are they very classy. I don’t like the almost-neon bright colors, either, but that’s because they don’t suit my coloring or personal color preferences, they’re fine for others who don’t have my Soft coloring and actually like them, I don’t. Lime green, mustard or bright purple or orange, etc., just wouldn’t work with the rest of my wardrobe, either. I’m sticking with my light neutrals, cool pastels and basics like navy and other natural blues, greens and cool reds. I like colors that can be found in nature, not just in chemistry labs. I like to keep my clothes modern in cut, details and silhouette, but I try not to buy short-lived trends, or fads.
I really like your approach to trends. I'm shorter than average and what works for you also tends to work for me. Your lipstick shade looks great on you. Would you mind sharing the shade & brand? Thanks!
Yes to: monochrome or column-of-color outfits (but not with cutouts like that bright green one), small-platform (1 inch?) footwear for extra height and comfort, maxi skirts and full-length trousers (but not dragging on the ground), white tank tops (always staples for me, I don’t need new ones), equestrienne style. I agree about the trendy trench coat, updating the shoulder shape, collar style, etc., is great, but most “reimaginings” are just too extreme - I’ll never forget Burberry’s front-less trench from a couple of years ago, really, a trench that only covers the back? I also hate anything hippie or grunge: patchwork, multi-colored crochet, lumberjack plaid flannel shirts, fringe or beads, or anything Boho, no more peasant tops and dresses! No low/midrise or Y2K! I’ve always preferred a simple, small to medium size shoulder bag, cross-body bags don’t work that well for me and the thin straps always dig into my skin. I’m glad shoulder bags are coming back in, they’ve been hard to find for many years. The youngsters where I live like to wear really frumpy, sloppy, mismatched thrift store clothes, the uglier the better, that’s their rebellious “style”, it’s an anti-fashion statement.
Noe that You mention regarding thench coats, I do wear it un a diferent color from nude, and I still usted a gold ir silver color belt, to make new add a 1 color style. I prefer pink, cause since My 20 years I always get pink tops or bottoms
For the "reimagined trench" thing, I feel like it really depends on if trenches are a core part of your style or not. If trenches are your go-to piece and are practical for your climate and lifestyle (i.e. not me in LA :P), if a slightly more creative trench really speaks to you, it could make sense to consider it. A "special" version of your go-to piece when you need to make an outfit that feels different, but still very you. throw on with some basics and it could be just right. BUT if trenches are not your thing, it makes no sense to buy some quirky one rather than going more classic
I love a chunky platform boot but on sandals, not as much. I feel like it has to be a certain style for me to like platform sandals. As for the bag trend, I'm loving the crochet bag trend as well! I've been keeping an eye out for a crocheted tote on thrift shops. I'm also planning to get an oversized circular pandan bag for my birthday--it's not really on trend or whatnot but I love it and it's practical so that's enough for me ❤️
100% agree with you that Y2K style is the worst trend! Having lived Y2K style the first time around, it is horrifying to see it return. 😬🙈Even if it suits a small amount of people, it generally looks trashy and has no longevity. Y2K will never be timeless.

You are vey polite when saying low-rise can flatter certain body shapes. I personally think it looks awful on everyone. I can only see it being ok on people who have very short torsos and long legs. Like you said, it just doesn't offer a flattering proportion.
I have a short torso and longer legs but waist high definitely feels more comfortable! Don't mind midrise, but I'm far too old for y2k again! It's lost the fun element too of that time and seems cynical. Having said that, the miu miu show had wonderful colour combos and a lot would cross well with the equestrian style, the rich browns are great with blues.
Hey! Lumiere you're looking too too too adorable and I really love your vlogs so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 70K Subscribers very very soon!✨💞☺️
y2k can be done cute but it makes me feel like i’m 8 so i canttttt😂 i feel like the issue is it’s very copy paste from what was popular back then as opposed to being inspired by some of the details
If it is of any comfort, the puff trend seems to be dying down. They are still around for sure, but a lot more sleeker silhouettes have been coming down the runways the past few seasons. Which also means the shops should be catching up soon! I tried a few puff items, but they always felt too feminine for my personal style. So just avoiding along with you for the time being! ;)

Love the thought you put into your videos! So tasteful 👌

Love your honest but balanced take on trends, Helen. More "piece to camera" videos please, you are great to listen to.

Crochet bags in leather and chunky strings🤔 sounds interesting. Love that u have touched the bag trends because didn't see much videos on this topic.

Love the new haircut...it looks great! Also really liked your idea to pair a smaller handbag with your oversized coat -- that's fashion genius.
Thank you :) The handbag size really makes a big difference to the overall proportions!
Great advice, as always, and beautifully explained. Really enjoyed this!
Thank you so much Eleanor! Have a lovely week xx
@@DailyHelenJ You too, Helen 😊

I loved all the examples you gave for the trends ☺️
Thanks Jade! Actually felt very inspired by a lot of the looks :)
I usually don't follow trends and just wear what I like and feels comfortable :)
A very good approach! I try to not be swayed by too many :)

Horsey girls...upper British aristocracy. You're on point! Quality over everything
Love the quality aspect of that 'trend' right now :)

Mid rise looks so much better in those with a short torso. I look horrible in a high rise.

Really on point with the trench trend, you nailed it!

Great video explanation and appreciate your approach to encourage people to use what they have before spending their money
I hear you about platforms. I quite like them… but def class as more fun …and really dimishes a chic outfit if you add platforms to it
Noe that You mention regarding thench coats, I do wear it un a diferent color from nude, and I still usted a gold ir silver color belt, to make new add a 1 color style. I prefer pink, cause since My 20 years I always get pink tops or bottoms

Can u please share ur picks on work appropriate yet on trend bags?
Well done! Thanks
Hey! Lumiere you're looking too too too adorable and I really love your vlogs so so much you inspired me so so much and I wish you reach 70K Subscribers very very soon!✨💞☺️

I'm ready to see puffed sleeves trend going away. Everything has puffed sleeves now, it's so hard to find sleeves that are just regular cut 😂
Oh that's very true! I love a puffed sleeve but not on every single thing haha :)
Me, too, one or two puffed-sleeved items are fine, but enough is enough already!
If it is of any comfort, the puff trend seems to be dying down. They are still around for sure, but a lot more sleeker silhouettes have been coming down the runways the past few seasons. Which also means the shops should be catching up soon!

Traumatizing…where am I going with that clothes LOL
