Congratulations Patrick and happy Thanksgiving! Glad to hear things are working out as you wanted and you are getting settled in. Here in Shkodra I found a nice 2018 1br near city center and signed a 1yr lease thursday, moving in tomorrow.. Paying a little less than you were for your house in Tirana. I was Surprised how fast Apartments 400/mo or under go here! Few are on the market more than a day or two before they are gone. It took me a month to find one and I missed out on several. I will be using Vodaphone for my internet also... my local Cell plan is with them so no worries adding the apartment. Win. Life is Good in Albania : )
Hey Patrick, good day from Texas (as well). We will be moving to Albania in late spring next year. Probably going to stay in Tirana for a month or less, and then end up in Korce. LOVE LOVE LOVE Albania, cannot believe this gem of a country is not more well known, more populated. Can't wait to meet you as we will definitely be visiting the lake in Pogradec.
You should thank your lucky stars Albania is not well known, as that's pretty much the beginning of the end. Not convinced expats promoting Albania as a place to live/retire is necessarily a good thing, if I'm being perfectly honest (both pros & cons
@mikerubin7318 Honestly i dont know how long you have been watching this channel. I am greatful for you being here. Please dont misunderstand me. But i say over and over in my videos Explore the world !You have options. Albania maybe good for me, but not for me. Also covid has effected people working from laptops and not in the office. Its not a american thing. Its world wide. And not just Albania. When you say..beginng of the end, i say im giving my money to the people here. Inflation is not caused by expats. People who say that are normally people who are NOT expats . Since for decades people have been going to other countries for decades , which ones did it cost the end ? Please dont take this wrong. I thank you for comment.
I am glad y’all are doing good. The wind sure it is kicking the storm shades behind you. The cold in Pogradec sure bites due to the lake wind. Enjoy and again CONGRATS y’all! All I would say is DO NOT sign contracts with Phone companies. Go by month by month and you can pay in advance but are not locked by an actual contract. “I want to pay for 6 months in advance for internet” Stay well and happy December! NEW YEAR Celebration will sure be different!
Just got back to Skhodra after spending 3- glorious days in Theth. Managed to see the Blue Eye and hike to the summit of the famed Theth to Valbone pass before thr rain and snow started, the very next day (Friday). Yes, Winter has officially arrived. Snowline is much lower in the Alps now and very visible from the road in/out as well. Trekking season in the magnificent Albanian Alps is officially over, probably until March. Skhoder is a wonderful city and an excellent base in Albania (Montenegro a short hop away). Take Care!
We fell in love with Skhoder !! It was a tie for us for favorite cities to live. If i would have gotten a deal there we would have been very happy there. So glad you enjoyed it !
Hi Patrick, I don´t know about contract policies for utilities and rental agreements in Albania, but in Europe when you sign up for something, you cannot just get out of the contract early period. Also, if someone has a contract, they always have to make sure when that contract ends how does it continue? If the person does not cancel the contract (depending on the law of the country) on time, the for example one year contract renews itself for another year. Also, if for example you have a website it could be that having the domain is a one year contract, but having a shop included to the website is actually another sub-contract, and that one you can just cancel one month before you want it, but the domain itself the policy ist to cancel that one 3 months prior. If you rent an apartment, you also have to make sure to cancel the apartment on time if you move. A good tool is to write all contracts down, with starting date, when it needs to be renewed or cancelles etc. Also, in Europe sometimes they have a special when you start something like internet, but then 6 months later the price is higher. From my experience it is worth calling customer service after a certein period of time, or before you want to cancel something to ask them to give you a better deal. A lot of times they do that, and you avoid the hassle for searching for a new provider. Greetings from Germany, happy holiday season.
@@patrickoverseas Thats right! Like you said, you're in their country so you do and follow their rules and bite your tongue. Have a wonderful holiday season.
That's awesome for Jesse being in school still...!!!...what a wonderful thing to happen...Patrick, did you ever consider an international plan with a company like "Starlink" which has a "roaming plan?" It is more expensive but you can use it anywhere you go. I'm looking at all these now for myself since I wish to travel quite a bit while there. Thanks as always for the update!!!
@@patrickoverseas It is currently more expensive than most as it is part of the SpaceX corporation waiting to launch more satellites. After they get their entire fleet orbiting (~40,000 more satellites) earth will have an independent global wifi network. Not sure how I feel about that in one corporations hands, but that seems to be the way of it these days. I will admit I've been impressed with the positions that Elon Musk takes on things, so we will have to see how it all turns out. Friends that have it on their sailboat can access their family, bank accounts, television, radio and phone virtually anyplace on the planet. Thank you for your weekly updates!!!
Can't wait to see you explore Pogrodec and maybe the other side of Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia and all the close surrounding areas near by. I wonder if the weather is like it is in New York? But because of climate warming it is about ten degrees higher than it had been. I like your new condo and I like the colors. Although they are not white or grey, they are very neutral and earthy. I don't think I would change a thing. And right near the lake, too! Sixteen bucks a month, lol. That's the cost of a dinner for one at a diner or cheaper restaurant.
I think that’s wonderful that you interacted and made so many connections . Is Pogradec smaller? Did you learn any of the language. Just starting to research leaving US. Thanks for the video.

Nice to see you are all set up well in your flat in Pogradec. You know a guy from Texas seeing it snow around him might go into shock. So don't get stuck or your blood pressure will rise there too. I was hearing the native Albanians in North Macedonia were causing quite a ruckus in and around Skopje when celebrating Albania's independence on Thursday. Apparently they were shooting off their guns and the North Macedonian government did not approve. Maybe they should have fireworks available instead. Glad to see you're living the good life now, you deserve it. If your biggest worry is Vodaphone, you really do have life good.
