I wanna say thank you so much for this video. I take care of my grandfather who has dementia/alzhiemers but the most vivid memories he likes to tell stories about is how he worked on two harbors back in his day. Putting this video on for him had him talking on and on about his time spent on the islands.
My dad would take me here when I was little on his boat and we still go there to this day. It is so awesome and in my opinion definitely the best side of the island. Thank you for showing the world how great it is.

Back in 81, 82 and 83 I and several friends Crewed on a Catalina 38 sloop named "Streaker". On non race weekends Two Harbors, (The Isthmus) was our go to spot. I haven't seen it since until this video and I'm so glad to see that it hasn't really changed all that much. There was little to no commercialism back then except for the restaurant. (Best clam chowder I have ever had in my whole life!) We would generally sleep on the boat, but on occasion pitch a tent at the old boy scout camp. Some of my best memories were there! Thank you for this video.
As a child we took our family vacations at this lodge. One day, while my parents were relaxing, and little sister asleep, I decided to venture down to the pasture and pet the bison. Climbed out window, hiked the quarter mile down, hopped a stone wall, and lay down with a cow bison and her calf right in the middle of the herd of 200. Once my parents looked out the window and saw that 6-year old me was that little speck in the middle of the herd, all the fun was over.
thanks for the video, our grampa had a 1955 42' chris craft cabin cruiser 1959-1973..(named sea cloud)...we spent a ton of time at "cat harbor" usually 1-2 weeks, water looking a a lot clearer now,. went to avalon and the isthmus a couple of times.....not nearly as crowded back then.......thanks for sharing
It is one of the best kept secrets of Los Angeles that even most native born Angelenos don’t even know about. It is super chill and relaxing with most people there sailing in on their sailboats or yachts.
Nice video - we boat to Isthmus and Avalon monthly - lucky we get a mooring and stay on the boat, but after watching your video we might try a night or two at the Banning House!

Thank you so much! We were not able to hike but they did have some great trails. If you are a "super hiker," there is a trail from Avalon to Two Harbors. It's called the Trans Catalina Trail and is 37.7 miles.
I had no idea there was a place to stay in Catalina outside of Avalon! Wine and cheese and buffalo milk sounds like my kind of hotel! Loved that you both covered both parts of the island. Very helpful!

I've been all over the world, & I currently live on the North Shore of Oahu. I must say though Catalina island is by far one of the best places to live in the United States. Especially Two Harbors. It's really quaint & really nice & quiet. I prefer Avalon though, two Harbors can get a little boring. People who have grown up on the island & still live there have no idea how good of life they have lived.

Welcome to Orange County and thanks so much for the subscribe. All of the stores and eateries were open when we visited. A lot of the eateries transitioned to outdoor and feet-in-the-sand style dining. Hope you get to visit soon.

Yes, the Buffalo drink is offered on both sides of the island. The submarine and zip lining is offered on the Avalon side, you can scuba dive on both sides and I believe you can rent jet skis on both.

Twin Harbors offers various rentals of sports equipment but we are not sure about bikes. You can bring a bike on the boat you take over.

Yes, in the summer they do!
From where the boat drop off to the place you stayed is it walkable distance or do you have to find transportation?
If you are staying at the lodge, then they will come pick you up in a van. You can walk around the island pretty easily though without transport.

Great video! Would you recommend taking kids? And if so would you recommend Avalon or two harbors for a family with little ones.
I think Avalon is more family-friendly for younger children but Two Harbors is a great option when they are a little older (6+)

We have not camped ourselves but know that families do camp there. There are a lot of water activities for the kids!

Yes, there is parking available for a nightly rate. We don't know about making changes. You'd need to call them directly.
So BEAUTIFUL but do you need passports or any other papers o get on the boats to Catalina/2 Harbors?
No there are no documents needed other than a ticket to go.
