How long did it take you to get comfortable enough to sail like this? I just graduated college and from the Northeast so I have zero experience with this kind of thing. However I will be taking an engineering job in LA and want to do things like this with the hopes of having a boat like you one day! I dream of traveling the the channel islands and camping at all the little coves and beaches!

I took a series of sailing classes through Orange Coast College in Newport Beach. Eventually I was able to take one that was a 3-day class to Catalina on their 42' boat. This was a great class and very helpful. Good luck with your plan! FYI, boat slips are very hard to come by in many of the harbors in Southern California. Get on a waitlist early. They can take years.

Thank you!!! So you didn't grow up sailing or anything? That's reassuring that it is possible to do because you look so comfortable sailing as if you'd been doing it all your life haha. And yeah I figured it's very hard to find a harbor. Do you have to own a boat already to get on a waiting list though? @@mojosailingadventures

You don't need to own a boat to get on a waitlist. You will likely have to put a deposit down though. Some are about $500. and some ask for the amount of the first month's slip fee. If you get to the top of the list before you own a boat, they will give you some time to get it. It varies based on the marina.@@raymondkyruana118
