    I just wanted to say that you documenting this process for everyone to see has really helped me, and in fact inspired me to compete soon. Thank You.

    I can relate. My first boxing spar I had I got my nose busted open. But I learned I can take a punch and that was one of the things I was nervous about the most. And also my conditioning for someone who didn’t do as much was pretty damn good I was fighting on instinct the whole time. I was dodging and slipping punches. I learned a lot about myself. I even dmed you the sparring video. Whenever you may have free time I’d love if you could give me your feedback on the short clip. You are quite knowledgeable and know how to get your points across

    • @Highly3666
      @Highly3666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you have any other challenges during the actual sparring or was it just taking that first shot? If you don't mind me asking

    • @tmoneyofficial1
      @tmoneyofficial1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Highly3666 it was overcoming the nerves. That day i didnt intend to actually spar. I went through a gruelling session and then the guy said spar this kid-- and i was like BET, didnt want to say no. Ontop of it being my first spar i didnt bring my mouth guard either so i was sparring for the first time against a experienced boxer who i believe is 10-0 in the amateurs with no mouth piece--- not a ideal situation lool
      Once the bell rang as martial said in the video you just forget everything. Sometimes when i watch the video back im annoyed because i could have been jabbing more-- my hands was never up. I tried doing a roy jones taught on the ropes- hands down and everything and he caught me square in the nose. But after that moment i was comfortable because i took it easily and didnt feel a thing. And thats when i warmed into it and we had some good exchanges. So yeah the challenges was it being my first spar and taking that first shot but once you do you begin to realise its not as bad as you thought and then you gain more confidence from it

      @@Highly3666 but once i took that first shot i was more relaxed. I was able to slip quite well. I learned how to box from youtube since the age of 13-- im 18 now so all that film study kind of help with the small things i was doing--- i still got whooped tho but i did well for my first ever full contact spar

    I did kickboxing sparring for the first time a month or so ago and felt great. I got my hypes up sparring someone nearly triple my age(I’m 18) and I had much advantages so I started to get comfortable and spar hard which was dumb of me to do. My next sparring partner was now my height and size and I was getting tossed around, I even got checked via leg kick so badly I was limping for the next few days or so. Anyways to sum it all up I was overconfident going in but was humbled soon enough. I haven’t been at the kickboxing gym for a month but I’m hoping to come back soon as MMA is something I love.

    I had a similar experience in judo when I was a teenager. Did training in the dojo every week, worked on technique at home in between, thought I was pretty good. I could execute my throws and trips just fine, knew how to take a fall without getting hurt, knew how to control on the ground. When going up against the other people that trained at my dojo, I usually did pretty good. Then I got my yellow belt, and my sensei said that I needed to enter a local tournament so I could test myself under pressure. I figured I might be able to do okay, at least within my own belt. I wasn't expecting to win a trophy or anything like that, but I expected to at least have a good showing.
    Yeah, that didn't happen in the slightest. I somehow forgot literally everything I'd learned over the previous year, even the stuff that should have been muscle-memory by that point (eg - breaking a fall). In a double-elimination tournament, I managed to go 0-2 and had my shoulder dislocated after the 2nd match.

      Yeah, I train jiu-jitsu and something similar happened to me, I thought I was really good cause in the gym yeah I got my butt beat a few times but I also did great and learned really fast that my coach asked if I wanted to compete even tho at that time I had only trained for 5 months and I was so nervous during competition that I had forgotten everything that I learned and I got beat 3 times in a row. I felt embarrassed and I was disappointed in myself because I know I could've done 100% better but I let the nerves take over me but honestly I thank martial for posting videos like this one because it makes me feel like I'm not alone and we all get better over time. Thank you for sharing top btw because again similar thing happened to me and it's nice feeling not alone. Also sorry if my English is bad

    You competed once and didnt know what to expect why do you hold these fighters in such high regard when if you compete 8 - 10 comps you will perform normal and natural its not that hard.

    My brother was very good at jujitsu even though he was just a white belt. The first competition he entered he won white belt and blue belt. Turns out his teacher was the best Irish jujitsu fighter ever. He got a head injury playing soccer and had to give it up because he basically had a constant concussion. If u don’t compete u don’t know how good u are or what u have to work on.

    I don't do any Kind of wrestling but I used to and when I did I was absolutely bad at it. I quit when I lost all my fights during my 1 tournament and this was in 7 grade. I always knew I was bad and I could do better but I was not good under pressure watching my team look at me as i wrestled. I hate that I quit and I am in 9 grade watching this video and I learned from to gain knowledge and research what I am interested in so I can back up my knowledge in arguments. I now know that I should have kept on trying on what I wanted to do and don't give up and compete more. This could be a situation and everyday things and thanks for teaching. I absolutely love your videos and hope you make more like these in the future. Stay safe and I hope you keep on working hard to get good at what you interested. Have a good day ♥️♥️♥️👍

    Martial, I think the reason you exceed your experience level at jiu jitsu is because you're cerebral enough to see where someone better than you is going with it, which is also why you're able to do the same in video games and when formulating both precise and articulate arguments, I guess what I'm saying is...
    *IQ MATTERS*

    Competition is not completely necessary as long as you understand yourself. You may not be getting tapped by higher belts because they are not truly trying. If you think that is somehow due to skill then you are letting your ego get better of you. I believe that it is said that before you can understand others, you must first understand yourself.
    I believe that as long as you keep a more down to Earth or grounded mentality then you should generally be able to gauge your own abilities against others. Your higher level sparring partners are doing you a bit of a disservice by not really pushing you.
    Ask them to go harder against you. You should not be simply looking to last against a higher belt but taking the sparring as if it were a real life situation. You should be going after them as if you are in a fight for your life.

    Hey martial mind, been watching you since ufc 3 came out. Ive been thinking of trying out bjj for 2-2.5years now and when i started in April 2021, i had 0 grappling experience, but i had college wrestling friends that would always grapple each other when they saw each other. Whether it be in the library, outside, the classrooms they would grapple and i would observe, i also played ufc 3 and 4 and was pretty bad at the ground game until i worked on it and became pretty good at it. At the end my first month of bjj, i got promoted to 1st stripe. And when i rolled with people they would say “have you wrestled before or rolled before?” I would tell them “no but i had college friends that wrestled each other and i would watch, on top of that my moves come from the video game ufc 3/4” they wouldn’t beleive me, so my question for you, when you rolled did you already knew where to go? For example if they took my back i would roll to my right to acquire side control or roll left to acquire full guard like in the video game. Did you have any similar experiences like that?
    3-24-21 (1st day of class)
    5-6-21 1st stripe
    6-28-21 2nd stripe
    9-18-21 3rd stripe
