    When was the first time you saw NOFX live?

      2018 with Bad Religion! My younger brothers first show ever too. I was very Punk in Drublic that day, by the end of the night, I was stumbling around and they cut me off... but I had a blast, really shocked my ex g/f, didn't hate me for being M.I.A, like the entire either on line for a beer, or on line too pee. To the memories I remember, and the to the ones I can't.

      Ive been a long time fan but shamefully, I STILL havent seen them live. A hear or so ago Mike came on stage with my band and helped sing one of our songs which was a super fun moment. Not the same as watching the full band doing their thing on stage and enjoying all the NOFX classics tho!!!

    Eric Melvin you are such a god damn inspiration. As a part of NOFX you’ve stayed true to yourselves as artists all these years. As a human being you’ve stayed humble and mindful of the things that are truly important in life. Thank you for being a beacon of human potential, warts and all.

    I started listening to NOFX when I was 16....I'm 44 and have 3 children. Hearing Eric talk about real life being a father and you guys chatting about Audiobooks and your children and everyday life is refreshing I could sit and listen to that kind of stuff all day long.

    While it is still sad that they aren't going to be touring anymore, it made my day when I heard Melvin say that they are going to continue to record albums. What a relief. Recording and writing-wise, they are at their peak. The last two albums have been absolutely phenomenal. Two of the greatest punk rock albums ever written, imo. Both the writing and performance is absolutely mind blowing. The two bands that I never want to see stop recording new stuff are Nofx and Lagwagon.

    I really enjoy seeing Eric talk about this stage in life. Walking kids to school, thinking about what might be the best experience for them, at drop-off parents acting like they cant see each other. It is both funny and therapeutic to hear we share these thoughts and experiences. To see that a notable person like Eric would feel like people see him and pretend they don't. In small communities and internet information those situations are awkward for everyone... Knowing about someone before you really know them.

      Nofx and Melvin are great. They have been one of my favorite bands since I got my first cassette of one of their albums (Longest Line EP when it first came out). But your statement is a bit of an exaggeration. hehe. If you think he is the best player or has the best technique in the genre, you must not be a musician.

    Thanks for this interview. I love that we get to hear from Melvin for once.
    I totally understand the reason for bringing up the Dimebag shooting, but there was way to that than you guys mentioned. It was primarily because the shooter was dealing with some serious mental health issues, and for some reason he thought that Pantera had stolen lyrics and songs from him.
    I've only seen NoFx twice even though I've been a fan since 94 or so. I will definitely try to go to see them on this tour.

    Eric's one of the coolest dudes ever. His guitaring isn't talked about much, and you kinda always just see him jumping around, but I bet if he had a video of like his ten hardest guitar parts in Nofx, most probably wouldn't be able to play it,or they'd find it a little bit tricky to do at speed. You can tell he's one of the most genuine dudes ever.and I think it's a safe assumption to see the band dynamic, and conclude as to why they weren't happy and ended it

    • @michaelr.4878
      @michaelr.4878 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally. Their parts were definitely the most thorough, deep/emotional and heartfelt. Not only were their stories more 'book friendly,' but it seems like they went into much greater detail with the guy who wrote the book for them..which he wrote from interviews that he conducted with them. The book was great. I read it and then listened to them read the audiobook. .Both were a cool experience.

    I saw NOFX at the Hard Rock in Atlantic City and, completely unexpectedly, it was something like the 2nd or 3rd time they ever played The Decline live. I absolutely lost my mind. One of those “I can’t believe this is happening/I’m going to be able to die happy” type of moments. Later in the night, I’m wasted walking down some random back hallway of some casino with my friend, and some dude is walking towards us. I’m not paying attention when my friend says to the guy “hey, I know you”… I’m so drunk that I don’t realize that it’s Eric Melvin until he’s like 100 feet past us. I yelled down the hallway something like “you guys are fucking awesome!!”… To me, in my mind, these guys were like rock star level celebrities and I was never the type to fanboy out on people, so I felt guilty drawing attention to this dude who was probably trying to put his fame aside and go have a normal night in AC. It didn’t occur to me that he probably wasn’t as famous as I was imaging in my head. Either way, I don’t remember his response, but just that he was totally cool about the whole thing, and I appreciated it. I had listened to every one of their albums hundreds, if not thousands of times, so to me they were just larger than life.

    I think the whole blink 182 and nofx beef rumor might come from an interview Mike gave, forgot with who about ‘Punk Rock Cliche’ was written originally by Mike and one of the blink guys, sorry blink isn’t one of my favorite bands personally so his name escapes me. It was recorded by Blink and was mentioned by them in an interview by Travis barker talking up the track pre album release. This is how Mike told it in the interview I watched. And he says Blink supposedly dropped the track when they found out he helped write it. That’s at least what I gleaned from the video interview I saw

    The world has become something so fucking woke that NOFX is vital to call out the bullshit. I was truly outraged about the year of wokeness imposed on NOFX. How very unpunk rock. I am cherishing the fact I did score tickets for the SF final tour shows, yet bummed still. Nofx had played a serious part of the soundtrack of my life. NOfX has always had the ability to let me scream at top of my lungs along with their music. Shared in my best and worst of times. I feel I understand the bands position through Melvins explanation about the decision, since Mike statements thus far leaves out much of the why, understandably based on Eric’s cautioned statement. I am relieved that Eric said that this decision doesn’t exclude the possibility of new NOFX in the future. Unlike other artists who have done fairwells, when Mike says it I take it more seriously than other rockers. Thanks Johnny for having Melvin on to clear the air on so many topics, where he doesn’t put him self out there at volume as Mike wields. Love NOFX. Fan forever 🎉
