And Paula Cole entered the party only days before this concert was recorded. She did a fantastic job, replacing Sinèad O'Connor. ❤
I always love how open you are to the emotion of the music. It is so important to not just hear, but experience the performance. To me Peter is a very authentic musician who knows what he wants, where he is heading. But most of his art seems intuitive at the same time. I believe he takes his time to make these two components work in the best way possible. It must be quite a process. This is what makes an artist stand out. I love him for it, so much!

I was at this concert..... there were two stages..... one half of the concert represented women/femaleness and the other, men/maleness.....
about halfway thru the concert Peter goes from one stage to the other......
if you were fortunate enough to have front row tickets like I did.........
you could see Peter walking underneath the stages from one to the other halfway thru the show..... he knew he could be seen by a few of us so..... he waved and did the "shhhh" gesture to us.

Peter Gabriel is a great artist. With a glorious time with Génesis where it was the alma mater of the most iconic live band. Then came a reflective stage where he moved away from the stage and musical studies. He returned with something very different, meeting with musicians from other places, emphasizing the social aspect and carrying messages in his repertoire.

Increíble performance song!..... please more of PG. In this album he works a lot on human relationships and his experiences and in the concert he interprets them. He always did it since the time of Genesis...... best album for me The Last temptation of Christ! thank you

I love the 'Us' album. Thank you for respacting to this one :) I agree about it feeling innocent and childlike. I love how they are lost in the performance. I often feel Tim Booth of James is like that when performing live.

Since you appear to like Peter Gabriel's theatrics onstage, you ought to react to his stagework as the lead singer of Genesis, in the early 1970s, when Phil Collins was the band's drummer and backing singer, harmonizing with Peter. I recommend "The Musical Box" but if you have 23 minutes to spare (which will feel like only five minutes!), then the theatrics and musical drama of "Supper's Ready" will blow your minds. It is why Peter is now called legendary. ---OronOfMontreal

Finally you have seen this song of this concert. The whole live concert is incredible. Peter Gabriel is just incredible. As so often, he invited artists to this record and if I remember correctly, part of it was that different artists, maybe just "normal" people, each filled their own suitcase with things, just like their own secret world in each suitcase.

I watched the whole concert with my mother in the mid 90s on Mtv, when i was about 15 yrs old. We both loved it sooooo so much and besides all our troubles because me beeing terrible because of puberty, this evening we were at peace and felt connected. This Show and Peters music will always remind me of her and that evening. I miss her.

You are right: Gabriel had a vision and the whole concept of the show was about the tension between the male and the female. The whole show also was laid out on a horizontal plane with 2 stages connected by a walkway. He was smart enough to know he could not do it all himself so he enlisted Robert Lepage as stage director and together they made Secret World real. Years later after the release of his Up album he again worked with Lepage and this time the concept was vertical with a round revolving stage in the middle of the arena and stuff going up, coming down etc. And he wanted to make visible what usually wasn’t so the audience could see the screens on which some of the backing tracks / time codes could be seen which his musicians used and also the band was in black but the whole stage crew were in orange overalls making them extra visible.

The missus and I are soulmates with our own secret language that nobody else would understand. Sometimes we communicate without words, just making weird sounds to each other but we totally understand each other.

This concert was staged by Peter and Robert Lepage, a French-Canadian actor and Avant-garde Theatre director. Lepage spent a decade as the Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Canada, in Ottawa. He was in an excellent movie called "Jesus de Montréal", among others.
