  • Bikejoring race at Kowen Forest, in Canberra for the 20th anniversary of the Canberra Sled Dod. She did so well for her very first time, 8min01 for 3,3km and an average speed of 23.91km/h
    First position at the end of the day, amazing surprise and we were looking forward to do the 2nd & last race the next day.

    Hey! I'm just getting into this sport. I ordered the same antenna you have but I am looking at your rigging from the bike to the dog and wondering about it. Is the extension with the beanie clips also bungee material? Also approx what is your total length stretched and relaxed?

    • @MaximeBAUX
      @MaximeBAUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, my extension was a weird set up and not ideal. Just like a spare small leach that I put around my bike frame and clip on the bungee after; because indeed the bungee was a bit too small even when stretched. I have a proper single bungee line now for bikejoring, I believe it's around 2,5m or a bit more when totally stretched and about 2m relaxed. Hope it all goes well for you, all the best.

    @stormysampson1257 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Luna's beautiful, reliable team mate! 23.9 something? Km/hr? I gotta go look up the conversion for feetsies and inchies ugh. Learning metric is on my to do list!
    My wish list from you is a video or two on all the details. Such as harness fitting and adjustments. Urban harnesses discussed compared with the cross back harness. Interaction of dogs pulling together (ugh for sure), alpha versus betas or just dealing with normal rivalry?
    Protection of paws. Signs for hypothermia as well as hyperthermia in one's dogs and in the humans.
    Surface conditions.
    "Rules" of the trail esp for passing?
    What are the cues for getting OVER to one side of the road while passing and/or maneuvering around big puddles?
    Length of times ideal for FIT dogs like Luna. Length of time to work out for newbies.
    I worry about their paws. I am a horse person and gee, horses have these incredible shock absorbing TOUGH hooves and they walk most of the time. These dogs' paws are so fragile in comparison. I saw some sort of a salve used on their feet...yes, no?

    Thank you! Great video, great talent of a dog. I did bike-joring today for the first time with my 10 months old Husky. Since half a jear I´m jogging with him, learning commands. Today it worked great! I was afraid a little bit, that He would pull me in some trench or bush. But it worked good he went, the directions I was ordering and I could control even the tempo . He just made his breakes to sniff and make some Pee at corners sometimes. Should I forbid this strictly while joring tours? Greetings from Austria!

    • @MaximeBAUX

      Good effort guys 👏🏻, if he needs to pee, let him pee, not good holding a pee while you're running ;)

    I was looking up harnesses to attach to me and my dog so I can ride her on my bike. I used to walk them briskly everyday for 1 hour in the morning then again at night. But now my knee is injured, so looking for alternatives. Then I found bike joring. I had no idea it was a sport! This will be perfect for my husky. Do you mke your own attachment leads or have to buy them. I don't have a lot of cash. I have owned a couple huskies. Wish I knew this was available.
    She looks super focused when she is running. If you weren't commanding her, would she still be this focused? Or would she want to explore things along the way. Just curious.

    • @MaximeBAUX
      @MaximeBAUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This video is from few years ago and now she is even more focus at training/races. She knows the difference.
      I bought few bungee lines and scootering lines when I started but now I can make my own (I have a team of 3 now so need different lines) For you I would say to get a bikejoring line online if your dog is keen, to tie around the frame at the front. Tie around the handlebars is risky and might make you fall in no time.
      Have fun👍🏻

    Compared to dog scootering, how much pulling is the dog doing during bikejoring or is it mostly them just running ahead of you with a taught line?

    • @MaximeBAUX
      @MaximeBAUX  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A dog will still pull if he's keen. It's in the dog best interest and safety as well to try to keep a tension with the bungee on the bike. It's easier to keep up with the dog on a flat surface indeed. In this video I made a lot of mistakes, it was our first race and my training sessions were low on numbers. 🙃

    Max; what are the bare essentials for a dog to know before hooking them up to pull anything? We managed to get 2 high prey drive boys so this pulling and racing is the ideal prescription. Chocolate lab and Blue Heeler. Each averages at least 100 pounds. They've taken off on leash making not only little old me airborne but my big big hubby as well. Broken a few ribs during their 'training'. They are very handsome boys, dark chocolate with only a curled tail to show 'Daddy's influence and well, the gnarly prey drive. And we have at least 30 bunnies and half as many cats on our property. How about a few videos showing how to get started before the traces? We have Urban pulling halters. What is the difference between the Urban and the cross back? I am uncomfortable seeing the cross back slip down past the hips of the dog?

      I would recommend before going out and hook up your dogs to anything, bike, scooter or even a rig to, try and teach them basic mushing commands, by going out for walks. You'll need to be patient but also more stubborn than them ;)
      Getting a proper pulling harness is also essential you're right, for your own safety and pleasure but mostly for your dog aswell. You want the dog to exercice and pull with and in the right condition for his body.
      Try to find a forest, wild area free of wildlife so you can give it a best chance for your dog to listen, behave and learn. Like I say patience and determination for the both of you.

Powerful, fast, fast. Thank goodness bunnies and ditties are faster and alert.
      They've got their own paddock with dog house. We have 7/8 of our 5 acres fenced right now. Thanks for the info...I'll go watch the video now. I have never ever seen happier dogs than these mushing dogs. Never. Makes me very happy just to watch.

    Qué triste!!! Por qué el hombre no va corriendo y el perrito de paseo? How sad!!! Why man does not run and the dog looks?

      Cele The dog is running (average speed 28km/h) and the man is ridding his bike to keep up with him. It's bikejoring.

      you obviously never done this before, the dog can outrun you if it was unleashed, and if u have a husky or malamute, they are ment todo this kind of pulling, they love doing lots of exersises.

    great video, thanks for posting. I'm into my first year of running/riding with my huskies, one of which is also named Luna. If you want to improve on future videos, it would be helpful to have data widgets overlaid on the video using Garmin VIRB Edit or something else similar. Here's a great video from GPLama on how to do this th-cam.com/video/s5v9ZCwcung/w-d-xo.html

      Yes I did saw that and few of our members are using it. It is fun and helpful but make me compare my dog/s with a motorbike when on screen. My videos are all abt the fun, the enjoyment of the dogs and the scenery. Thanks for sharing and watching though.
      Have fun out there
