RDR2 was probably the greatest master piece rockstar has ever produced. The level of detail to the environment; the rage engine not quite the best, as compared to the euphoria engine for GTAIV. The story. The dialogue we had. The memes that came after it. Graphics were an improvement for rockstar standard. Everything about encapsulating the criminal gang life of the wild west, and man kind slowly evolving to the industrial revolution, lawless thugs sharing their emotional life and experiences with a group of people who were in it for the family. It was sincerely the best on this list.
The gameplay sucks though. Great story and world but people just ignore the boring combat and linear missions for some reason.

There are plenty of mainstream games that aren’t violent. There are popular ones that are, but that’s because people chose to develop games to their liking. People have always been violent or have made violent stories or movies, there just wasnt a market for violent games until recently. There’s also a shock factor that has to be one-upped all the time

Rdr2’s free exploration among rockstars series is pure gold.
The 80s hugely improved games and I'd say that's when it became mainstream. Even though I grew up with these games, it still amazes me how complex many of these games were. They literally made a jump from button smashing pixels to fighting games and rpgs.

Fun fact: pole position was one of the first racing games to come in 1982 and one of the most popular racing games in the 80’s. Whilst only mainly being available in arcades it was still really popular, and arguably I agree.

I am kinda surprised that it didn't contain some of the most impactful games in terms of graphics and overall quality. Like half life literally changed the gaming industry so much, that any game you think about, probably wouldn't exist without HL (most FPS shooters, HL was the first game with an actual story, etc) or HL2, which was also a gigantic leap in gaming and to this day a masterpiece that has amazing graphics after nearly 20 years

I feel like there are a lot of games that are more... "Artsy." Such as Undertale; Not the best graphics but a completely unique story based on the diversion of expectation. If you expect a normal RPG, then the idea of sparing and even that LV doesn't mean level gets weird. Great story, soundtrack, mysteries, characters, and meta-narrative that allows for one of the greatest games. It single-handedly proves that mass corporations with rtx graphics don't hold a candle to a classic, home baked game with the maker's soul put in (pun intended).
Funfact: Spacewar is on steam but it's mostly used for pirating
