The job is equal. But society and how they treat women doctors isnt the same. He knows it. And knows the limitations about his knowledge. That really is a sign of a good doctor. :)
A lot of men act this way and have exactly this mindset. I've come to find out it's usually the highly educated men who think and act this way. I've stopped looking for partners who aren't educated and have come to find: the more educated a man / a person is, the better their morals and more respectful behavior towards women. With that being said, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but I've found myself surrounded by much more respectful men after surrounding myself with those who are more educated / as educated as i am
Not necessarily. I know of cases where kids were raised by two MD's, who focused too much on their careers and had way too high expectations for their children. One of them had a horrible relationship with his parents, especially his deceased father. Knowing him he would of been a lot better off with working class parents that could actually raise and mentor him, instead of parents too focused on their careers having grandiose expectations for their children without follow-up. Actions have consequences....
I knew this one kid in middle school/HS who’s dad was a business executive and mom a doctor. He ended up overdosing a year after high school graduation.
@@DavdBlack No one said anything against medicine. They're all talking about the negative outcomes they've witnessed of being a child growing up with parents who have an unnaturally demanding job. To be a doctor you have to go through next level schooling with years of grueling training to be the person that save literal lives. It's a highly respected, beautiful profession to take on that responsibility but it doesn't take away from the point that some doctors don't make the best parents and the children are stuck with that.
Oh my goodness, Dr. Kim! She's now Dr. Rutkowski as well, but I knew her as Dr. Kim, one of the most approachable, helpful, efficient yet thorough neurologists I've ever met! She always had time for me and my co-residents, no matter how busy she was. Our hospital was definitely sad to lose her to the East Coast. So happy to see that's she thriving. If you're reading, we miss you Dr. Kim!
“Look at the attendings who do what u wanna do not the residents” has COMPLETELY changed the way i think about neuro. A very very helpful advice Dr Martin!
This couple seems very warm and come across as kind and caring people. The fact that they are doctors as well is even better. I have stage 4 lung cancer with Mets to the brain and had brain surgery in may. My neurosurgeon was great. ❤️❤️❤️
@john tower But this is normal. People choose their own race. It's normal human behavior The whole point of this race debate is for alienation. We need to alienate more and let blacks and hispanic prosper in their own countries. Africa needs to build and develop on their own .
I love that, in the middle of medical school, you are both taking time to make this video and the rest of the content on your channel. While I’m sure it’s something you enjoy apart from the grind of studying, it takes work to prepare and edit these videos. It’s not like you’re shooting these on iPhones and using camera mics, either. I think the amount of work and intentionality you’re putting into the content-allowing us the privilege of looking into the lives of medical professionals in a more personal way-speaks to the way you are setting groundwork now for the kind of physicians you will both be in the future. Your patients will no doubt be privileged to have you guys as their doctors. You both truly care and are eager to better yourselves. I hope you never lose that! Oh, and this couple is awesome. Stoked to see an interview with them together. Absolute legends.
My parents were both physicians and we suffered immensely because they put professionalism and Service to Humanity above all else. we did OK with our friends and the occasional parent getting a few hours to come home during the day. But we were always reminded our family existed for the better good of the suffering masses and as children we could also sacrifice so that sick people and people in pain could be taken care of. And once they retired my parents planned to make it all up to us. Unfortunately, when we were in high school the medical evacuation jet they were on crashed .
This wonderful couple has become my absolute favorite ever since I watched their first interviews in 73 questions series. Thank you so much, Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Rutkowski for showing us hope and bringing back our faith in this amazing profession. Greetings! from Nepal.
These are the everyday heroes that you wouldn't otherwise hear about. They don't make headlines on a daily basis yet they are a couple of the most exceptional and admirable people I can imagine. Thank you both for being such incredible role models.
Dr. Rutkowski is one of my role-models when it comes to becoming a successful neurosurgeon. I am actively seeking every moment of him on TH-cam. I am looking forward to working with him in the OR one day.. ❤️❤️
3rd year med student here!! I love them both since you interviewed them both for your 73 questions series. Ahhhhh thanks for this!! They are literal goals ❤️❤️❤️
Enjoyed listening to their stories about their journey and their work. My son recently graduated as a MD, (first doctor in the family), second son has an interview for medical school in two weeks.
Make more of these with couples one or both of whom are doctors. That will definitely be informative for the people who want to take medicine through a non-traditional path to know how the life of a doctor is being with a partner.
I love how they described their careers, the sacrifices made and the impact on their relationship and family life. I also love how genuine their answers were regarding having children and managing with that. All this was well said and well thought out. Thanks for providing us with this great content, Andrew.
My favorite couple!! They are so inspiring thank you so much for being so encouraging you make me realize that all this pain and sacrifice will be worth it in the end. Please keep doing podcasts and interviews with them!! I also wanna see their baby!!!
Viewing 2 doctors in the same field of work a husband & wife team my eyes were clued to the screen. Listening to questions being asked of them and then answered, was satisfying because; of the wives absolute honesty. The husband is equally supportive and totally honest. Work related questions then away from work questions. Having a supportive family with their 11 month baby👶 takes priority from mum to the carer. Detail that becomes everyday life. This husband & wife spoke of variables and work attune with life self gratification is visible to the eye as a viewer. Healthy outcomes tying it together if it breaks down years of experience with partner advice gently putting you in a safer frame of mind.❤❤😊
I think this is a great explanation of how they navigate two very demanding careers. Although my takeaway is that they are very fortunate that their extended families were willing to uproot their own lives and be such a huge support system for them when it comes to taking care of/raising their son. Most people are not that fortunate and will also have to navigate childcare in a much more complicated way.
Very good questions. Martin and Elizabeth gave thoughtful, honest answers. As physicians and former residents, they've seen a lot of suffering and as a married couple and parents, have grown in empathy for their patients and each other. I hope they'll be blessed with more children. They are a kind couple.
I really don‘t understand why we don‘t educate more doctors and surgeons so these people who are already sacrificing so much for society get to have a life. You know, nothing crazy, just maybe more than 10 minutes a day that they can spend with their life partner. These two seem lovely together but families are falling apart left and right and if society prioritizes work like this it‘s no wonder. I’m changing so much as a person all the time, if my partner never got to witness that they‘d naturally be married to a stranger at some point. We‘re overworking ourselves in so many professions but the medical field is just taking it to another level. I hope as society we can start valuing family over work. It‘s also crazy if you think these people are working crazy hours to save our lives just so we spend a majority of it working.
The US has very low doctors per capita compared to other developed countries. The number of doctors being educated is being kept low in order to keep their pay incredibly high.
Being in this line of work, it’s not a thing of being able to ‘choose work over family’ they literally have to lol, do you have solutions for that? People love to complain on how this is overworking but what are the solutions?
When I say he is the second coming I am pretty sure he knows who I am. And I've be told this couple enhance each other but I clearly see those smiles.
