- After months of transfer speculation and plenty of offers, Marc Leonard has signed for EFL League One's Birmingham City. In what turned out to be a transfer saga, Marc Leonard attracted attention from numerous EFL Championship and League One clubs as well as well as interest from Europe and the American MLS, before finally deciding to make the move to ambitious Birmingham City.

Hansson, Wilumsson and Leonard are unbelievable signings. With May and Stansfield we are on 🔥 I agree though, all of these signings have been absolute class. I'm excited to see Donovan too, he's been fabulous in pre-season.

Thank you for your comment and I am really pleased you enjoyed the podcast. All of the research we have done suggests that we have got a fabulous player on our hands. A good young age at 22 but with League One experience and only £500K which is a real bargain.

As a Cobblers fan I can confirm that you have an absolute gem. He had no need to stay with us after gaining promotion from league 2 but he is clearly sensible and sees the value of playing regular football for a settled side. He could easily be in the Championship right now but again, he has made a sensible decision and given himself a great chance of getting good minutes this season

Yes and going back to when we last at this level, Mark Ward.
Think a few players may still leave and we’ll likely sign a few more, but so far the signings we’ve made are quality. Leonard is the kind of box-to-box player we’ve been without for years. It’s gonna be a good season 👍🏻

Even JJ who is highly speculated to go, all he has to do is look around at the players he is now lining up with and what the club are doing off the pitch and ask himself why he would want to leave!

@@BCFCRoyalBlue agreed Gary, must be an exciting time for the players too. There’s a positivity around the whole club. Regarding AJ, I genuinely think he may not start anyway. Our midfield is very strong. KRO
Leonard has said joining Blues was a no-brainer and that he is relieved to be here, which gives a clue as to why this transfer saga has gone on for so long. It also matches the mindset of all of our new signings. Ambition and hard graft from all of these talented players is the minimum we'll get. So the potential for next season is enormous. It's gonna be one helluva show!
Thank you for your comment. I think it shows how the club are approaching targets and selling the vision to them. I suspect most of the players we have bought in would have had offers from clubs in higher leagues yet they still chose us in League One.
We are building a very strong squad which in my opinion would challenge in the Championship this season let alone League One so the future for our great club is really exciting. KRO and kind regards (Gary)

With our style of play im sure the players are gonna get fouled and maybe injured a lot so we need as many as we can get.

Thank you for your comment. As you point out we need to look beyond a starting eleven and consider strength in depth. I hope we keep Paik and JJ in addition to Leonard otherwise we will be short if we have injuries and suspensions. We need at least two players competing for every position.

After last night’s impressive first-half performance against Rangers, it’s hard to see how Marc Leonard will fit in, to be honest. But what a great problem to have !!! KRO

It is a long season with lots of games and most weeks two games a week, so we need a strong squad. I think Marc Leonard will be integral to the team and as I said in the podcast I think out of all of the fantastic signings we have made, he is the best of the bunch so far. Leonard is another good signing also proven and experienced at the level can’t ask for more young and can be developed in the future KRO

I don't really follow social media, so Marc Leonard is totally new to me.
Was watching the "Marc Leonard vs Manchester United F.C U23" (Jan 2022) video while listening to you guys,
Everything you said about his abilities was pretty much evident.
He looks strong on the ball and when challenging for it. Yes he's playing against U23s but was only 20 at the time the video was made and he's only going to get stronger, and it illustrates what was said about him not being shy of mixing it with the opposition.
Another positive signing. So good not to have to rely on loan players and players who are at the back end of their careers. To be fair we've had some great kids on loan, but they tend to stay for a season or two, which is not conducive to a long term plan, which I've been crying out for for years.
Fingers crossed we will actually get some stability and purpose of vision for a change. I think if you average it out, managers have had about 10 months or so!

Thank you for your comment. We always research players when we are about to sign him and from what I've seen of this lad, he is top quality. I've seen some comments from Brighton fans which say that they expected him to go to a top Championship or lower Premier League club. To get him to come to League One is amazing!
The club seen to have a new policy of buying players on permanent contracts rather than loans which is sensible when you think of the potential add on value if you can get the players at the right age and for the right price. Marc is 22 years old and cost £500k. Perfect! KRO and kind regards (Gary)

I think Leonard can come in directly to replace JJ in the rangers game set up. JJ has had a couple of good games but if he’s leaving then Leonard can replace him.
On another subject what do you think of our new centre back ? No not klarer I mean Sanderson he’s been superb defending well building from the back often surging over the half way line and what about those superb long passes across the park to switch play . I hope Chris recognises his improvement and doesn’t drop him simply cos we have a 4m euro Austrian just arrived. If there’s a centre half pecking order then Sanderson looks tops ahead of Beilik. What’s your thoughts

I fully agree with your comments about Sanderson. He really is a different player under Chris Davies and in my opinion is deserving of a consideration for the starting line up. When did we ever see him moving into the other team’s half or spraying balls around like that? It just shows you how a player an improve with better players around him. Fair play to Dion! Peak fitness is the key to playing the CHRIS DAVIES pressing game.I think that the players need to be involved on and off the ball for 90+ minutes. It's obvious that DAVIES training sessions are geared to this .

Idk about james. The transfers have gone quiet hes been involved all pre season. I think theres definitely a chance he stays and then between paik james and leonard we have 3 top quality midfielders for that deep 2

If I were him and I was looking at the players we have signed and what is going on at the club I would be knocking on Craig Gardner's and Garry Cook's doors and begging for a new contract! I think Paik and Marc would be an awesome choice, I think I'm the only one who doesn't rate JJ as highly as others do, for me he is too slow, and his first touch needs work. I think all we need left is another centre half and a striker and we are done

Bit over the top really.
He’s obviously a decent league one quality player but he’s 22, and was at Brighton for 6 years, a club mainly known for improving and using young talented players, yet he only played in the first team once in an EFL Cup game in 2021, and was on the bench for just one premier league game in 2022, he only ever played in the Brighton academy side.
I’m sure he’ll do well for Birmingham, but anyone thinking he’s some midfield wonder kid need to ask themselves why he couldn’t even get close to breaking through at Brighton.

But just today I’ve literally read multiple blues fans comparing him to Kevin De Bruyne 😂
Trust me, he’s not in that bracket, Brighton tend to get a little bit more than what Birmingham paid for world class midfielders 😂 and they’ve sold a few in the last 4 years.
