David was such a great songwriter and a sweet voice. Even up to the time of his death he was still creating wonderful music and he never lost his beautiful voice. I never met him but I grew up with his music. I miss him.

David was always my fav. When he passed on my birthday, 1.19, it was so telling. We'll be connected forever. Just this morning, I was enjoying a playlist of all my fav DC tunes, of which Delta is one of many, many.

David's voice was so pure. Such a beautiful instrument. His silence is deafening while the rest of us float along.

And it’s so surprising that he had that beautiful voice until the very end. What a legacy.

So grateful Maureen continues to make progress. It’s a marathon, but every step forward is great.
Also grateful for the legacy David Crosby left us.
Thanks for sharing more Croz with us today.

Today’s track highlights Crosby’s ability to create vivid imagery with his lyrics, in this case sailing across the delta. Normally he would take the middle harmony but on this piece he sometimes takes the low note and the lead of course. Such a beautiful voice!
Love the chorus effect on the Bass Solo!

I am 56 years old and have seen David play with CSN many times over the years. Only the loss of three musicians have physically impacted me to tears and he is one of them. The other two were Jerry Garcia and Miles Davis. May they all RIP.

The David Crosby song Jackson Browne forced him to write
    Tim Coffman
    Fri 8 December 2023 19:00, UK
There wasn’t anyone in the 1970s who made more mellow music than David Crosby. While Crosby, Stills, and Nash, as well as The Byrds, had their moments of brevity whenever they went into the studio, Crosby had sculpted himself into the wise sage of classic rock by the end of his life-happy to write songs that conjured images of the lush countryside rather than anything too caustic. Although Crosby may have been striking gold during the 1970s, one writing session with Jackson Browne almost turned violent.
By the time Browne had arrived on the scene, Crosby was already a legend of the rock world. Having been one of the cornerstone writers in The Byrds, Crosby was known as one of the founders of the California sound drifting across the airwaves, clad in his wide-brimmed hat, singing songs like ‘So You Want To Be a Rock and Roll Star’.
When Crosby left The Byrds, another legendary career awaited him when teaming up with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. Across albums like Deja Vu, Crosby would contribute some of the greatest songs of his career, including the now-famous ‘Almost Cut My Hair’ alongside fellow legend Neil Young.
Even though Crosby was willing to let inspiration come to him whenever the time suited, Browne had a different approach. Being a disciplined writer, Browne was known to pour over every line he wrote, often playing songs for hours until he was finally comfortable with the arrangement.
Once Crosby had come up with a song tentatively titled ‘Delta’, though, Browne insisted that Crosby finish the song as soon as possible. Rather than wait a few days and return to his idea, Browne eventually rushed Crosby into a rehearsal space and sat with him, demanding that the song be finished on the spot.
Recalling the time, Crosby said that Browne came close to violence when he resisted writing the song. Although the CSNY singer admitted that he would have much rather smoked some weed and thought it over, he admitted that he may have had to nurse some broken bones if he hadn’t acted quickly.
As Crosby remembered, Browne was close to breaking his arm, saying, “Jackson wouldn’t let me up or let me at the pipe. He just stood there, looking over my shoulder, holding me at the bench, forcing me, slowly and painfully, to give birth to this song. He kept me into it, threatened to break my arm if I got up”.
After years of waning success, ‘Delta’ would become one of the high watermarks on the band’s 1982 album Daylight Again, standing among fellow classics like ‘Southern Cross’. Browne would also see a resurgence around the same time, gaining a national hit with the song ‘Somebody’s Baby’ from the soundtrack to the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
While Crosby was annoyed at first, he admitted to owing Browne a debt of gratitude, explaining, “It was an act of love and great caring; he showed concern for me, for my work, for seeing my work done. ‘Delta’ was the last complete song I wrote for years”.

    Good morning/afternoon, Lee! ❤🥰🎵🎸
Ohhhhh, THIS is the song that made me fall in love with David Crosby and his beautiful, harmonic voice & music when I was just FIVE years old; 43 years ago! From that point forward, he's always been my favorite singer-songwriter ever! The Daylight Again album was to be my first audio cassette tape that was given to me by my parents for Easter of that year. I had a stack of 45's and LPs beforehand. I think I heard that this song was performed when he was really suffering and that he didn't think of finishing it, but Jackson Browne wanted him to finish it for the album. The verse where David sings (I love the child who steers this riverboat, but lately he's crazy for the deep) signifies David's troubles with his addictions. This song is filled with such emotion, and it's always been my favorite song of his ever written!!! I absolute love your bass effects in this one! So mystical, so fluid. ❤🥲🎵🎸🥰
I'm so glad to hear Maureen's doing well! Give her my love, and Domino gives his love to the boys!
See you later on at Clubhouse!
Love you so much, Lee!!! 🥰🎸🎵
PS- I miss David terribly. To me, he had the most beautiful voice of any man I've ever listened to.
    🎵🎸 😔

Thank you so much for sharing this with us !! This is my favorite song on that album and probably my most favorite song written by David. And to me, your bass playing, especially the intro and outro are some of the memorable parts of the song or any song I’ve ever listened to, and I’m 67 yrs old, lol, so I’ve heard and played a lot of songs over the years. Again, thanks for sharing. I don’t comment a lot, but I do watch your posts almost daily and thoroughly enjoy them. It gives me a sense of personal connection with you and all the great musicians you are and have been associated with through the years.

It is so nice to follow your wife's slow but sure recovery and Crosby was part of my life, not as a personal friend and musician as with you, but his music was with me since I was in high school in the late 60s. Thankfully, I saw him perform a few times through the years.

Even in The Byrds, this young singer/songwriter/guitarist popped out at me as a kid not really knowing music well stood right out there with the rest of the guys, but that voice, since then have never heard anyone's voice that sounded like that. Those songs, Everybody Has Been Burned Before. Never, ever heard a song like that, even from the 4 lads from across the Big Muddy. I could list on and on and on his music, but I don't think anyone wants to read for 10-15 minutes of the songs that he was gifted with and shared with us. First album- CSN- an explosion of wooden music, the second album, phenomenal! One of the Best singers I've ever heard and Loved. He fought life hard and stayed around to do all the things he wanted to do. I'm sure He was at peace when he fell asleep. Was fortunate to see him and Graham together in 2008 and was still amazed and in awe of those harmonies and vocals of his and at the time good friend. They're two voices together will never come around again and was so fortunate to see, especially him. Saw Graham in 1966 w/ The Hollies and aforementioned in 2008. I consider myself lucky to have see them, but especially David. I will miss but, have all his music. Rest in Peace David, were a special gift to us. Thank you and Thank you Leland. I hope you and Maureen are well and of course, the two kids. Take care Leland, Doug up in Green Bay, WI. 6 years and 7 months cancer free from stage 4 Prostate Cancer, one really grateful guy. Take care and stay healthy you guys. Love ya all.

Hi Lee. I haven't listened to your post with Cros yet but yet I wanted to let you know about Brian Wilson's wife Melinda in case you hadn't heard. She passed yesterday at 77 for now by unknown causes. I was so saddened to learn of this from her best friend who got in touch with me this morning. She'll let me know more as she learns herself and I'll let you know as well. She was one of the nicest people ever. Always warm and friendly and I got the chance to be with her a number of times when visiting Brian sometimes before and sometimes after his shows. She was for sure his rock and soulmate and I have concerns how he will handle this. I'll see you at the Clubhouse meeting later at 3! Bob Love

❤😊, Yay, another milestone in the recovery process. Clubhouse sounds fun. I was wondering if I could pull it off this time, but have just been crashed out from a long few days of preparation to deal with an all day Monday thing, where it was near daybreak Tuesday before I could put myself to bed. It still has that feeling of being Monday night, but it's closer now to Thursday daybreak. Just finally stayed up long enough to make an elaborate sandwich from the grocery relay late Monday night. I feel like a bear. Crosby was comforting though. I just was surprised my phone was already saying it was 2am. It's also beginning to feel freezing again. I am nervous hearing of the new storm headed into California. I remember now I found an old way to write something to Jeordie. I did that at some point in the middle of the night Tuesday I guess. Something made me think of the Emmys while I was doing that. ... and now you're saying it is Emmy time again, and you are doing that again. Yay❣️ It's because I couldn't help but think of CopRock while writing that on Tuesday. I went down the rabbit hole of trying to navigate instagram. I just keep hoping I'll wake up and find that the news got it wrong on some things.

Delta and Compass were powerful bookends to his dark years and I couldn't help but absorb it. Jackson Browne forced David to finish writing Delta, sitting him at the piano while he made several attempts to excuse himself to medicate. Grateful I discovered David's CPR project and Snarky Puppy by association. He could have done a whole album with Nash and David Gilmour. They sounded so good together on David's solo albums On An Island and Rattle That Lock.

You played on the Crosby and Nash album 'Wind on the Water' and the two best tracks..'Carry Me' and 'To The Last Whale'. You've probably done those already, but two of the best Croz songs ever. Shame he and Graham Nash seemingly never made peace before he passed. 😢

Thank you so much for doing what you do and sharing your stories with us. It just amazes me what a walking history book you are! The most interesting thing I can say about myself is probably the time I got peed on by a rhino...nothing compared to casually hanging out with Crosby backstage while watching Hendrix. LOL Man...just...wow. My best to you and your lovely wife.
