He just needs to ride, if that makes sense. When the pressure is at its highest he crumbles. A sports psychologist could really help him get out of his head.
It's the cost of everything. Very simple. Time off from work for races, new bikes, new gear, parts, gas, food, water. You are extremely blessed if you get to enjoy this lifestyle.
Yeah agreed, bikes and everything is so much no kid can afford to do it now a days, my dad was able to when he was a kid. It's hard to be on your own...
Fully agree, I've ridden since i was 5, no longer ride due to costs being so high and all the local tracks shutdown, 2 hours drive just to ride now.....
Finding the time is also very hard. If you are working full time and only have 2 days off per week, usually you want to spend those relaxing. you have to have rich parents
Exactly it truly is that simple "all the kids are inside" well their parents are dying from an inflationary economy, and the price of motorcycles is absurd today. Sadly inside is the most cost effective entertainment available.
It’s horrible to say this but, honestly the stagnation of wages in America is truly the death of sports like this. Most 18-25 year olds with jobs are barely making 30k. Which is as much as their parents were making back in the 70’s-80’s. With bikes being upwards of 6k good luck. And those are just the privateers you need to support the field. That’s why you see sports like downhill mountain biking growing while motorcycles continue to drop every year. It’s terrible but, without a new affordable two stroke class mx doesn’t stand a chance. Even then this sport and motorcycles in general will continue to decline.
This hit right in the feels. I can remember waking up one christmas seeing a new kx65 by the tree, went out and whiskey throttled right into the bushes, I loved it after that. I raced as much as I could growing up in the early 2000's, then gas prices starting going up and couldn't afford to ride anymore, so when I turned 16 I sold my kx85 and got a job. I just turned 30 and bought an 03 kx250 that I paid 2k, there's no way I could drop 9k on a new 4 stroke that costs way more than a 2 stroke to keep up
you should try riding in the UK, petrol here along with everything else is expensive as F, we still ride though - work, save, buy, ride. Got a '13 450sxf for my 40th 4 years ago and still smashing it
The same experience we had? Two Strokes. Huge HP and no moving parts. Low cost. When I took my 9 yr old to Hollister for a GFI race in 1994 there was all this talk about how loud MX bikes are. Now it's all Four strokes!! And the talk has quieted down. 🤔
@@jordanbrinson5162 how have you managed to work that out? Parts have got expensive due to inflation and the development of the 4 stroke. Factory riders wages are a fart in the wind and have no effect on bike costs for you and I
The cost of this sport is insane. I play hockey all the way through Juniors and people say hockey is expensive...it's cheap compared to someone trying to compete in the amateur levels let alone the Pros. $4k for a 50cc bike just leaving the store is insane. That's why I don't think $9k for a 450 out of the store is all that bad...plus they are much less maintenance than the 50's.
I really thin marvin can do what ever if he trys hard dont listen to them marvin just try your hardest and you will win a chamption chip i belving you all the time go for it my friend i meet you at buds creek do the best go bring the title back.
Man marvin really needs a supercross and motocross championship because I think for other guys that are top 10 or less riders its whatever if they never get there but for a guy who has been 2nd in some many championships that's just horrible
It's a cycle, motos are not selling well so tracks are closing due to a lack of interest, tho a lot of it from noise concerns and a general distain for motorsports in America. I hate to say it but the writing is on the wall, unless there is a massive cultural shift in parenting and child behavior, what we got is what we got.
Something needs to change the motocross industry. The cost is getting crazy. The electric bike is the future but as motocross fan I don’t like it without the noise but it’s the future.
I think a lot of the reason for less motorcycles under the Christmas tree is because the cost is going up not only as far as the price it takes to buy the bikes but also the cost of maintaining is going up and I think if ktm Yamaha Kawasaki and Suzuki and all the other major brands just lowered the cost of the bikes and maintenance they would actually make more money from selling more bikes
and event at 2k, this was a gift that only upper middle class families could afford their children. For most it were used ones. But with new ones costing a whole lot more, the used ones are also much more expensive

The sport will never truly develop due to the factories and governing bodies. I think its a cop out to say there are less kids outside, baseball/soccer/football. Motorcycles are prohibitively expensive, a 50 could cost you 3 grand before you modify it cause you won't be competitive with stock everything. A 4 stroke race bike that is competitive could be 10 grand or more. lol Where are you going to ride?? Cause there aren't tracks everywhere. Also, the sport is stupid dangerous, I know football is dangerous as well, but when you get in an accident you really get bit. I could go on forever.. Until AMA and the factories step up the sport will be on the decline.
The sport has always been dangerous. I don't think that's inherently the issue. 99% of people aren't pro or anything close to it, our tracks need to cater to that. When local tracks build hybrid-SX tracks and the majority of people either get too scared to jump anything so they don't have fun and don't come back, or try to jump way too big and get hurt and don't come back, all it leaves is empty tracks sucking money from the promoter and end up getting closed down. Build relatively safe tracks that are still fun and challenging, and get the importance back on the fun of racing, and not on who can jump the highest.
Bs barrier for entry is way to high the price is completely out of touch these days to just ride and race , but keep ignoring the obvious .jimmy hit it right on head
