Why Freightliner is not so successful in Australia like USA?

Most likely because Australian transport companies and operators would much prefer a locally designed Kenworth or Mack that can stand up to certain conditions in particular the Australian Outback rather than say an imported Freightliner or Peterbilt for that matter

Is it me or are the Australian trucks very similar to the American trucks I've noticed a lot of similarities between the American Truck shows and the Australian truck shows

They may look the same as American trucks, but for the most part they are a very different animal indeed
Kenworth and Mack both have manufacturing plants in Oz that build trucks specifically for Australian conditions, many with bigger, stronger, and heavier everything for long distance desert road train work.
Western star, Peterbilt,, and Freightliner trucks are imported, then many of them are upgraded and modified for long distance desert road train work.
