      I think that’s what makes this game actually amazing (unlike amazing Spider-Man games). It’s not a story you’ve seen in movies or read in comics (not sure bout the comics part). But it has so many significant things in the plot: Stopping Martin Li who seems to be your friend at first, mending things with MJ, taking care of Miles (well kinda), helping doc ock and then fighting him, and helping Aunt May. What makes this game so different and unique is how Aunt May died in this game and Pete let her even tho he could’ve saved her. Shows how much Peter has grown since he became Spider-Man

  • @chandlerwright5460
    @chandlerwright5460 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3190

    It gets sadder when you realize this is the opposite of what happened with Uncle Ben. with Ben, Peter could have stopped the murderer, but he didn’t due to his grudge for not getting paid for winning a wrestling match, and Pete’s selfishness got him killed, but with May, he could save her, but that would mean a lot more people dying, so his selflessness killed her.

    The big indicator that she knows Peter is Spider-Man before she reveals it is that she has a bunch of Spider-Man crayon drawings on the wall behind her desk, obviously done by kids who are fans of his. Now, why would Aunt May have Spider-Man fan art on her wall, mixed in with photos of Peter?

    When you think about it, this game just shows how strong and good-willed Peter really is. SPOILERS, but at the end of the story, he loses both his new father figure (Otto Octavius), and his mother figure (Aunt May). That would crush anyone, if not make them hate the world (especially since it's respectively the third and the second time for Pete). Yet Peter still wants to do good, and protect others. If that's not proof of Peter's unquestionable morals, I don't know what is.

      Thing is, everybody sees Peter as a guy who always does the right thing, always knows what to do, and never makes the wrong decisions. They see him as this invincible godlike character, because that’s really more or less what he is. But he doesn’t truly have unquestionable morals. He makes the wrong decision here and there, he screws up. Just look at some of the comics! A few people have died because of him, and he’s made plenty of morally wrong decisions. For instance, in civil war, when he first joins the pro-registration act, he could be seen as morally wrong in giving up his secret identity, endangering his family in the process. Then, he later sees a friend of his killed in a battle, and makes a wrong decision from the LEGAL standpoint and joins Captain America’s secret avengers group, becoming a fugitive. And remember how I said that him revealing his identity endangered his family? Yeah, in the Back in Black comic storyline, his Aunt took a bullet from a sniper hired by Kingpin because of it, and died in the hospital. Peter beats the ever loving SH#% out of both the sniper and kingpin after that, actually BREAKING INTO A PRISON to do the latter! And then, even though NOBODY wants to mention it, we have One More Day, Where Peter makes the SINGLE WORST CHOICE OF HIS ENTIRE LIFE. Peter is mourning the death of his aunt, and is told be several people to move on with his life, because it’s in the past. Even JESUS HIMSELF tells him to let it go! So what does our morally righteous hero do? He makes the obvious choice and makes a deal with the literal devil to sacrifice his relationship with Mary Jane in order to make sure that nobody ever knew he was Spider-Man (except for mj because she was there with him). He doesn’t do these things because he’s either evil or always right in what he does. He does these things because he’s still a human under that red and blue spandex. That scene in Spider-Man Homecoming is a great example of this! When he’s busy recreating that one scene from the comics near the end of the movie, he does what most people would do and calls for help. I don’t think I need to be a genius to tell you that if your homecoming date’s dad dropped a building on top of you, you wouldn’t just shrug it off. This shows how human he really is. He’s a scared kid in this moment, and you can really tell that he’s pushing himself to lift the building on top of him through how he’s speaking. All of this proves my point. Because no matter how much Spider he has, the most important element of his character is the Man behind it. He’s not going to make the right decision every time, and if he doesn’t know what to do, it’s a given that he’s bound to make at least ONE wrong choice. But this makes him more relatable to the audience, and that is what makes him such a good character. Not that he’s some genius billionaire, or an all powerful alien, or even that he’s practically a god (which is what he is). It’s that anybody can relate to him. He has real problems, just like us! And he does what everybody else would do in those situations. So does he have unquestionable morals? No. But does that make him a bad character? No. It makes him just like us.

    Insomniac did a freaking great job with aunt May imo, elders are usually badly portrayed in games and movies, even if they are good they would talk too much, narrow-minded, get in the way or annoy the shit out of you,... Aunt May doesn't talk much but wise words, she cares for Peter more than herself but understands what have to be done, she helps Peter with no conditions but tries her best to stay out of the way, and more importantly she doesn't constantly remind you of how much she loves Peter but slowly builds it throughout the game so you could feel it, that's why her final moment is so impactful and feels so sad, MJ though, annoying attention seeeking little shit, can't stand her

    There’s a reason so many people idolize Spider-Man, and it’s because at the end of the day, even though he fucks up a lot, he’s a good man trying to do his best to help out a world that doesn’t want him. The end of this story was everything I could’ve wanted out of a Spider-Man narrative, and the juxtaposition between the death of May and the death of Ben is crafted masterfully. I don’t know if Insomniac will ever top this, but I sure hope they do.

The only real exception to this rule is Daredevil due to his supercharged sense of hearing.

    This scene for me tied together two of the most well known quotes at least in my mind. Peter was remembering in this moment what his uncle told him but also aunt May in her own way was being Spock. She was reminding that the needs of all these people out weighed her needs or his need to save her. But she said it with a simple yes you do. This whole scene merged together so perfectly with great power comes great responsibility and the lives of the many out weighs the needs of the few or the one. 🤔🤯

      There’s like 3 spider man movies when he’s a adult . It’s funny I remember when spider man was getting rebooted for the mcu people want him to be in high school again. It’s smart what Marvel is doing there not rushing with the movies,there starting off with him at high school like the comics so they hired a young actor to play him so he can age with the character won’t be long when Tom Holland gets older same as Peter in the mcu then we will see more adult problem which are the best Spidey stories Marvel are not rushing for the best Spidey stories yet kinda like Christopher Nolan did with Batman saved the best story for the sequel my boi the joker

    • @kyleperkins93
      @kyleperkins93 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tobey Maguire was a horrible adult Peter that never seemed to grow out of that awkward teen stage and Amazing Spider-Man 2 was directly after high school. This game takes place 8 years after he became Spider-Man. Homecoming was a horrible Spider-Man movie. Tom Holland does a great job, but the writers are so far up RDJ's ass that it's hurting the other films. Everyone keeps saying how smart Peter is the entire movie, but he doesn't do anything that intelligent. Hell, he's not even the one who hacked the suit. People not knowing his identity is a huge part of the story, and by the end of the movie his bff and aunt know who he is AND a villain. I'm totally cool with Stark building him the Iron Spider suit for the Avengers movie, but Peter should have built his own suit in his own movie. And Tony shouldn't have even been able to recreate the web shooters. No one being able to figure out how Peter did it is also a plot point for the character in the Marvel Universe.

    • @mitchellwhiteley1208
      @mitchellwhiteley1208 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Perkins I mean how many people new Peters identity in this game? and peter made he’s own web shooters in mcu too, that’s shows he’s very intelligent I mean these only been 1 spider movie with Tom Holland and he’s definitely the best spider man specially he’s performance in civil war and infinity war. I can’t wait for more movies with him

    • @kyleperkins93
      @kyleperkins93 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tony shouldn't have been able to recreate them though. In the comics Tony Stark, Hank Pym, and Reed Richards all fail at recreating the web shooters. This Peter gets all of his ideas from "old movies" and really doesn't show his intelligence at all in the movie. I'm not blaming Tom Holland, I'm blaming the crap writing in Homecoming. Other than creating the web shooters he's just another dumb kid. Not to mention that without Tony Stark's wise words and guidance he would have never been able to step up and be his best during the climax of the movie. He would have died crushed under debris. Spider-man didn't get to shine in his own movie.

    I always figured during the sequence when FEASTs sister location is burning, when miles says “may told me to call you, for some reason” it was a HUGE hint that she knew. Notice how she never was upset with him afterwards for not showing up because she knows he did

    Honestly it’s a smart move that she knows he’s been Spider-Man for 8 years anyone with a Brain would know he’s Spider-Man whenever crime happens BAM Peters Gone andSpider-Man’s here smart move

  • @Metaknight145

    Wow. Peter NOT sacrificing anything and everything to save aunt may's life? This is so in-character and consistent for him.
    It would be so weird if a writer had him do anything different in response to May's death. It wouldn't be taking responsibility at all if he did something different.

    I think the saddest thing about this, is peter in this universe not only feels the guilt of uncle ben but now especially with a few voice lines in the miles morales post-game, I think he feels responsible for mays death as well.
