Interesting story: My great great uncle was part if this invasion He was drafted into the IJA at the age of 16 from his korean schoolhouse (hes not korean, my great grandparents moved from japan to japanese occupied korea) along with 300 other of his class mates. They gave him a uniform, a rifle, basic training and then was sent off to fight the British as the invasion force of malaya. This battle completely changed him. Mentally and physically. I thank him and his fallen schoolmates that fought and died beside my uncle, but i also thank the British soldiers for fighting for their king and country. He then died in the 1980s or 1990s I can’t remember, but he was a cheerful person despite the fact that he lost some childhood friends.
My Malaysian friend's grandfather was an independence activist. It's just a drink talking story, so it's not credible, I was told that he died for independence in Malaysia after WW2. He joined the Independence movement after he saw the Asian Japanese army bravely fighting the British. Perhaps he have seen your great great uncle. all the things that our ancestors fought bravely for their believe are contributing to the current peacetoday and should not be forgotten. Love UK & Japan & Malaysia from Indonesia
My grandmother told me that she ever saw the japanese soldier take out the baby from a pregent woman's body with the knife, i can't believe some people still be proud of imperialism
Yet again, I'm Thai. As a Kings and Generals fan I'm impress with the information on Thailand history, rarely seen through the western viewpoint. Every Thai students grows up knows this story, we was neither with the Axis nor the allies lol. The battle between us and the Japanese took place for several hours then stop. Let them passed. Thai history always regarded the Japanese as allies since the ancient time. The famous place for WW2 and Japanese in Thailand is in the river Kwai, for many British POWs were send and died there.
Of course Thailand was allied with the Axis. On January 25, 1942, the Thai government sent a declaration of war to the USA and Great Britain, but the USA never received it because the Thai ambassador Seni Pramot refused to deliver it to the US government.
There is this one quote that I never forget from my primary & secondary school education is the one from the general yamashita tomoyuki is "My attack on Singapore was big bluff, a big bluff that worked. my men were tired, we lacked resources and support, if the fighting continued, we would have lost."

I've been to Singapore and Malaya twice and I have visited Fort Siloso and Canning. Standing there in the centre of the forts I could only imagine what it must have been like fighting in that jungle heat against a particularly savage enemy like the Japanese. I was humbled by it and what they had done for King and Empire. My wife has even visited the Death Railway built by the British and Empire POWs and she was just as moved as I was. Thanks for the video. Truly informative. I also took one of the routes by bus going towards Malaya that the Japanese Imperial Army had taken.
This campaign needs to have its own game. Can already imagine the stories in the campaign playing as the British, Thais, locals and heros in malaya and singapore.
So love your content. This is hitting home. My grandmother told horrific stories of the Japanese. She was born in Sarawak. Due to confusion, some Sikh regiment were still fighting after the British surrendered. Once they were all dead, her sister and her joined her father to do the last rights for the 30 or so young adult soldiers. She was only around 10 years old. Later the irony being that her family were there to stay in Dayak / Iban Territory to protect the British from them. The Sikhs were supposed to watch over them. During the war, these head hunters stood by the Sikh families. Japanese were terrified of the head hunters and did not want to go into the jungles anyway.
Iban here. Did your grandmother say they were terrified of us? I asked my elders about this and they said the Japanese just didn't deem us enough of a threat to care
@@Masterclass20 She mentioned that the Japanese were more interested in towns and cities. But those that the Iban / Dayaks gave refuge too were safe. The only city she said that Japanese did not touch was a place called Bau and it was because of the Iban / Dayaks there.
I hope that this channel comes back to this battle soon. Because I would like to know what it has to say about the end of it. My compliments to all those who made this video a reality.

What I mean is that usually whenever someone does a pacific war, it is just the American and Japanese in the Pacific Ocean, hence the Pacific War. I understand the British and Dutch controlled most of Southeast Asia, but they tend to skip over that.

I can’t remember, but he was a cheerful person despite the fact that he lost some childhood friends.
@@irachowdhury4847 my dad told me, this story will be passed down in my family till time stops

@@imfromearth4222 Thank you for the interesting story, we live in a small world after all
My grandmother told me that she ever saw the japanese soldier take out the baby from a pregent woman's body with the knife, i can't believe some people still be proud of imperialism
Thanks for your high quality video. It provides a bigger picture of what happed
as an indian living in malaysia this was amazing to watch! :D
Not India..Punjabi army
Yet again, I'm Thai. As a Kings and Generals fan I'm impress with the information on Thailand history, rarely seen through the western viewpoint. Every Thai students grows up knows this story, we was neither with the Axis nor the allies lol. The battle between us and the Japanese took place for several hours then stop. Let them passed. Thai history always regarded the Japanese as allies since the ancient time. The famous place for WW2 and Japanese in Thailand is in the river Kwai, for many British POWs were send and died there.
Siam is and always a traitor for South East Asia!!
@@wanto4279 If the rest of South East Asia are independent they would choose the same decision
@@Arthur312HA Say this to your Commie China overlords, and you'll be happy of it.
Of course Thailand was allied with the Axis. On January 25, 1942, the Thai government sent a declaration of war to the USA and Great Britain, but the USA never received it because the Thai ambassador Seni Pramot refused to deliver it to the US government.
@@thenewmisterwehrmacht893 What does this need to do with Communist China? We are on WW2 topic mate
As a Singaporean, we're well familiar with this history, having studied in our secondary school, but K&G videos are always welcomed 🤘🏼😁
There is this one quote that I never forget from my primary & secondary school education is the one from the general yamashita tomoyuki is "My attack on Singapore was big bluff, a big bluff that worked. my men were tired, we lacked resources and support, if the fighting continued, we would have lost."
Always have a feeling and it's correct that a video has been releasead! Almost since from the beginning, thank you
This channel is truly a Gold
Thank you , K&G .
🐺
An amazing video KnG! as always
Saya dari Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh . Saya sangat bangga ada cerita berkenaan negara Malaysia . Malaysia bagus 🤭
Teruskan usaha murni ini. Sila buat kandungan cerita berkaitan Kesultanan Melayu Melaka .
Hahah please lookt at the Aurel Popovici i am like him xd
As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
I've been to Singapore and Malaya twice and I have visited Fort Siloso and Canning. Standing there in the centre of the forts I could only imagine what it must have been like fighting in that jungle heat against a particularly savage enemy like the Japanese. I was humbled by it and what they had done for King and Empire. My wife has even visited the Death Railway built by the British and Empire POWs and she was just as moved as I was. Thanks for the video. Truly informative. I also took one of the routes by bus going towards Malaya that the Japanese Imperial Army had taken.
Thank you Kings and generals from Malaysia
Love the irony of "before we get into these Japanese war crimes, this video is sponsored by Japanese candy box"
as a Malaysian and a big fan of the channel,im so happy
Your video is extremely superb and detailed! Greetings from Fortress Singapore!
Thank you for making this video. I'm a Malaysian
I've been liking your channel for years and now you're making one bout my hometown, this is super great!
This campaign needs to have its own game. Can already imagine the stories in the campaign playing as the British, Thais, locals and heros in malaya and singapore.
Thank you kings and generals for making this video
Probably my favorite TH-cam channel
Was surprised how the channel detailed Japanese invasion in tiny Hong Kong, great informations 👍
Reading about it is one thing to see it animated just puts the entire SEA invasion to perspective to the sheer scale of it
I hope that this channel comes back to this battle soon. Because I would like to know what it has to say about the end of it. My compliments to all those who made this video a reality.
As a Malaysian myself.. tq for the video..
‘Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it'
sejarah tetap berulang kembali. kali ni China rakus nk menjajah kita pulak secara sistematik
Don’t matter what I was watching before, Kings and generals just posted! 😁👍
Great job as usual guys. Really enjoy your work
Really appreciate for doing this video for malaya. Really want to see more detail what happen to our home country(British Malaya) during the Japanese Invasion.
Excellent video documentary, made all the better with great animation.
Excellent work. Only 1 minor detail. Since the nation of Malaysia did not exist until 16 September 1963, the people living in Malaya (modern day Peninsular Malaysia) were known az Malayans.
@ K&G , Plug that podcast more like you did in the first episode! Guy does a great job, works hard, and plugs your channel all the time. Keep up amazing work!
As malaysian history enthusiasts, i confirm that you really explained it so well.
I can't beleive how great it is,it's just insanely good
Thanks for doing this one. It's nice to find out how the Japanese ended up in all these places before the familiar story of them being driven out.

Please make a video on Burma campaign. My Grandfather fought valiantly in Burma. He also received Burma star from British Indian Army.
Another high quality history animation from Kings and Generals
Excellent episode - yet again.
Amazing docuseries. Something I think deserves praise beyond the usual quality of your videos is the sound design. Are the airplane noises actual recordings of planes from that era? They are really immersive and I can only imagine the sound of dozens of planes amidst the other sounds of chaos. Amazing job and keep it up K&G!
6:38 ok this visual representation is just artistic
It just doesn't feel like a K&G video without a smoothly dropped 'furthermore'... Still a great video!

Thanks for other interested video. :)
Great work as always!
Superb quality. Great job guys. 👍
Nice.. you did a very good job on explaining the invasion.. Fast, simple, & easy to understand.
Japan were Iron-clad in the first 6 months of the war, nothing was stopping them. Then they realised they had to hold all these island territories, and things got a bit... bad for them
lol totally agreed
This would've gone on even longer if Midway hadn't happened.

I am glad my grandfather managed to retire young to become a farmer back in his hometown in Negeri Sembilan. He used to be in British Armies in Kuala Lumpur during pre-WW2.. He managed to escape war and survive with my grandma due to the farm he had
Good. They are covering the British side and not just the American side. I am excited to see where this goes!
They will also cover the dutch side, and how in the end, in the defense of indonesia, the british, dutch and americans joined forces into just one command. The Japanese were unstoppable.
Most of South Asia is under British colonist what do you expect.
What I mean is that usually whenever someone does a pacific war, it is just the American and Japanese in the Pacific Ocean, hence the Pacific War. I understand the British and Dutch controlled most of Southeast Asia, but they tend to skip over that.
@@mitjed Yeah, the Japanese blitzkrieg across Asia seemed like it would not end. Just like in Europe, the defending forces were overrun.
@@yourcasualservantofsauron9781 Yeah, probably those were made by Americans, like the HBO series the pacific. The entire force who fought the Japanese and won the war where a combined force of the allies (Republic of China, British Empire, British Raj, Netherlands, CCP, US, Malays, Mexico, Thais, Filipinos, Viet Minh). The Japanese combatants where not really just from Japan, they were a combined force of Korean, Manchukuo and Japanese. Its like East Asians vs the world.
I had been looking forward to this
