Running through the jungles of Viet Nam...This was no joke. Our military men were being shot at, bomb, sniper fired, land mine and being accidently sprayed on by a highly toxic chemical named Agent Orange' by US war planes through the jungles of Viet Nam. CCR was the band most listened too by our military back during the Viet Nam war in the 60's.

Yep my dad was there in 68 and part of 69 they used to love them and Aretha Franklin and just about any psychedelic trippin music I think my dad said they would listen to the long version of Iron Butterly’s In -A-Gadda-Da-Vida and anything with the vibe and groove !

Writing it, he'd recalled the 1966 U of TX mass shooting (killed 16 & wounded 32) & read there was 1 gun for every person in the US (saying, that's what the line "200 million guns are loaded" referenced). @@lisamarielund6292 I'm sure you know better than the man who wrote the song. It's pretty clear you need to be right. I don't know your point in talking about your dad in Nam, other than to tell me you're younger than I (my career military father entered the service in 1937 & my mother in 1942). As far as throwing a disagreeable record in the trash, my parents were patriots, who believed in the 1st Amendment. As they'd often quote; "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Finally, John Fogerty served in the Army Reserve. If that's not good enough for you....oh well.

Lodi and Wrote A Song For Everyone are both amazing songs that rarely have a reaction to. Also, CCR had two names before Creedence. Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets in 1959 and the Gollywogs in the mid-'60s before John took over and became Creedence. They got the name from the word Creed and Clearwater from an old beer ad from Olympia beer. And well, revival means Strength of something.

"Creedence Clearwater Revival - Effigy (Lyric Video)" this was the last track on "Willy and the Poor Boy's" album. This was the fourth studio album, released and the third platinum album for CCR. This song is a good example of the "Roots Rock" style that CCR helped to pioneer. While Bob Dylan was largely credited with starting the Roots movement in 1966 only a handful of bands followed that lead. While the rest turned to folk, blues, or psychedelia. CCR fits into the niche within the country roots rock genre in between The Byrds, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles and of course, The Flying Burrito Brothers. By sticking to the basics, while everyone else was jumping on the experimentation train, They could be progressive and anachronistic at the same time.

When you do "Born on the Bayou" --it doesn't get more Louisiana than a bayou--be sure to get the full 5-minute studio version. There's a shortened one out there somewhere, unfortunately.

Great message in the song John Fogerty "I Saw it on TV", I know you guys would appreciate the depth in the vocals of this one.

CCR originated from the city of El Cerrito California which is located in Northern California, a suburb of the San Francisco Bay Area, which is where I come from. Surprised??

Deanna Couch,It is convenient now to say ,it is about gun proliferation but many of us back in the day it was written saw it as an anti war song.We didn’t have the problem with guns then as we do today. The hate we have today is perpetuated by a self loathing population of over medicated people by legal and illegal drugs.
