Nice review, thanks for the impressions. Interesting perspective from someone who is not traditionally a fan of this tactics sub-genre. Feels like you gave it a fair shake.
Just as a side note, I believe you can speed up combat animations manually by clicking that "1X" icon in the top-left corner of the combat screen.

Say what? Did I really miss that? I looked for a speed up button. Is it small? Or was I just blind? lol Also thanks for your comment. Regardless of whether I like a game or have experience with it or not, I always try to be fair and objective. :)

I nearly bought this myself earlier this week and stopped because I too didn't think it'd be for my personal taste. Now seeing it in more detail it does actually look kinda fun. Might wait for it to be on sale though

Combat looks like darkest dungeon. Are units permanent or they die and you have to replace them with other units. I don't like permadeath and like building units to become powerful overtime.

I'm not sure, none of my characters died. But if I had to guess then I'd guess they do have a form of permadeath. Mostly because it's so easy to recruit new heroes. Plus the game doesn't really make them feel all that important.
