How Ling Jihua's Career Crashed and Burned

  • Ling Jihua (令计划) had gotten so close to the top of the mountain. After serving as the gatekeeper to China's top Party leaders, he was poised to take a position amongst them.
But his path would forever change in a single night. His son Ling Gu died in a fiery car crash while driving a Ferrari 458 Spider.
What would ordinarily be a tragic event for a parent turned into a public embarrassment for himself and the Party he worked for. Uncomfortable, unavoidable questions came up about Ling's family and the wealth that his position presumably afforded him. The crash and the coverup that followed led to Ling's downfall.

He literally lost everything. The loss of an only child, denying that he was his son after seeing him at the morgue and getting back to work immediately must have been horrible.

To make things extra juicy, the rumors said that the two girls dying in the car crash were Uygur and Mongolian. Both ethnicities are renowned in China to produce beautiful and exotic women.

He has been the "Chief Butler" to the Big Boss and knows a lot of dark stories of them. He's like J. Edgar Hoover. So he must be locked up and left no chance to leak those.

No Chinese official should think of himself above the Chinese Law. So many lessons in History have shown us that when they do it's always end up in many innocent civilians collateral damages. So I think it was a wise move by the CPC to proceed that way in that case.

The agreement that the youth needs "proper political perspective" irks me to say the very least. That's exactly the method every ruthless regime in history has resorted to. That's how you foster a rigid doctrine that cannot be questioned without dire consequences. And history has shown us that it is precisely the things that can't be questioned... that needs constant questioning!

Isn't that what every country is doing to it's youngsters? Even education about democracy falls into that definition. It's just simply a fact of nation building that to build a long lasting system, you need an educated youth that is also familiar and is in agreement with the system. It's just the obvious.

I hate to catagorize what is an enormous population of people with very diverse backgrounds and histories, but the "Asian" (or East Asian) concept of filial or obedience to your parents bothers me, because it reeks of authoritarianism which to me seems like a midwife assisting the birth to eventual feudalism and tyranny (we can't escape politics even in the family). The effect is psychological in children, but can lead to long-lasting cultural effects because this carries on in adults to the next generation excetera. The political acme of authoritarianism is to "do what you are told or to heed authority". Exactly what the collective works of free thinkers in history, such as Albert Einstein, Socretes, Confucius and Mencius fought against. So in the past, East Asian people brought forth free thinkers in less authoritarian times as well.

And I will agree with you. He does not belong in the group of tigers. He did make the CCP lose face, and that is something that you should never do, because it might very well be the last thing that you will ever do.
