Just come across your channel (watched the vid of final prep for Esprit chassis pre top coat) then spotted this and got all excited as I've got the AC/DC170 Digital RTech too 😄
So stoked your getting a TIG Welder to along with the new MIG - can’t wait to see the results on the Esprit chassis! After motoring through all 52 episodes in the last couple of weeks I’m blown away with SOUP - what sort of legend makes this stuff?! Spondoolies will be coming via Patreon. Thanks for all for awesomeness so far - as Vinnie says, “it’s been emotional”. 🙏 Looking forward to more George(ous) fantabulousness in the coming months ✌️
I have the 220 amp version that machine , I find it very good and MUCH better than the old Cebora that I had for baby years, with very little control on that one.
Great intro to TIG there, without the manufacturer giving it the big sell on features, just real-world examples in simple language. Hats off to them for that, would have been easy to throw in the sales pitch. My only issue is..... Now i want one!
I can't tig...closest reference i have is gas welding. You can fuse the material just using the heat rather than needing to deposit material to generate heat. This gives the ability to properly form a molten pool to get a much better weld root. Mig can be very good but it is extremely dependent on material thickness, wire size, current etc. Certainly easier to get a good result on thicker material. I know aluminium has lots of specific challenges & relies on the clever welder functions to scrub during the welding process. Tig is something I'd like to have a go at. Great vid & production as ever!
Very informative video on tig welder understanding, looking at getting on myself and Rtec are based 10 mile from me , looking forward to the follow up 👍😊
Being a welder who tigs most days at work have to say that machine has decent features. I wonder if its just a rebranded everlast machine they look very similar. Job mode is nice i use this often at work similar to how they've done it i have an ac and ac setting stored then ones that i've set parameter for repeat jobs that i do. 4 waveforms is very good on what is a cheaper invertor machine hell my kempp mls2300i doesn't have 4 waveforms and thats a $6500 machine. I dont know if they gave you the option but switching to a smaller lighter no9 torch setup is much better for smaller thin work this is what i have at home for my sheet metal and tube work. I have a no 20 torch on my kemppi which is the water cooled version of 9 torch which make rated to a full 200amps.
Thanks for that, I've no frame of reference on the wave form thing so good to hear. It def has the same user interface as some of the Everlast machines, and whichever came first I'm glad R-Tech are here. I did straight away feel the torch was thick to grip but I was too eager to use it to worry about it. It'll work until I get a bit more practice in and then a smaller torch will be all the sweeter. Thanks for the tip [no pun] ;)
I have a whole tray full of spliffs ready. Can't you find an old rusty Land rover somewhere? do I have to watch all the old videos again? The welding lessons were cool because I'm old school (50s tech) how about a nice badly rusted out old Wolsley 444? so I'm going to sit with my guitar and sulk then...
@@soupclassicmotoring Welding is easy. Welding _well_ is what takes practice & experience! As you so well demonstrated over the course of the Range Rover restoration with how much your welds improved.
Tig is hot on my horizon to learn but the cost of entry is killing me. Even if you buy a low end tig the consumables and gas and tank all the other stuff doubles the cost instantly. Thats a big horse pill to swallow.
Yes! do it. It can stack up but this shows there are great machines out there at reasonable money. It might be a buy in stages thing what with the peripherals but it's worth it. right?
@@soupclassicmotoring Oh totally. I've heard things about Harbor Freights new multiprocess machines and plan on snagging one soon. It's just a bummer to have to sit on it for a few months until I can afford gas and all the extra stuff needed. Especially with projects piling up that need stuck together.
Please don't take this the wrong way.......the guy is obviously very knowledgeable.......However I would rather watch a gallon of petrol evaporate than listen to this " Expert".....
Mate you're not leaving much room for taking it any way other than how you've written it. I've seen the man weld, and anyone who can weld like he does is worth talking to, whether you like him or not. Thanks for watching.

SOUP and Mustie1 changed my life... from managing marketing stuff I moved to restoring old motorbikes for living. Thanks for all the effort George!
Hadn't heard of Mustie1, thanks for the tip off
@@soupclassicmotoring highly recommended!
this is all very entertaining but bloody hell man i need a esprit fix and your the only one that has the good stuff come on pleeeeze
jonesin' baaaad 💊
i am suggesting a fundraiser to get esprit going by the 100th episode
I'm only 7 minutes in and have learned more than about 15 other videos I've watched over time. Keep up such excellent work my friend.

looking forward to the tig welding fibreglass episode :-)

Good job on explaining the TIG. Interested now in this brand. Watching all the way from an Airport in Jordan
Good people. Thanks for taking comments transcontinental
Fantastic insight into Tig / MIG. Yet to explore either. Chomping at the bit to give them a go
do it
Just finished watching the last vid 😁 Took about two weeks to world my way through all the vids.
That's dedication!, thanks a mill for watching :)
Thanks man, i can't weld but thought I knew what tig involved but this taught me something. Cool👍
I got a lot out of it too
Always liked this Billy Connolly quote:

I reckon smart money buys people, buy the right people and the goods are a safe bet. That's the kind of people R-Tech are.

I did city & guilds welding at college and did both mig and tig.
Mig is heavy metal and tig is mozart. If that makes any sense.
Works for me 😎

Flying a plane is easy. Landing it......
It always works out in the movies ;)
It depends on the plane, what’s wrong with it and the weather!
