This hair do brings back fond and sweet memories of 1972. I had my hair cut like this the day after Graduation. I was the first of what became many to style this do, evert one loved it, as did I. Yes, I’m an old HIPPIE, just trying my best to serve. Peace out✌🏻
I had a shag cut in the fall of 1971. This looks nothing like my cut. I do like this cut but it's not anything like the original. This seems to be a cross between the gypsy and the shag.
@@TheGalwayfan You taught me something this evening. I too had shags back in the day. Short, medium, & long shags. Just recently went back to the authentic short shag, cut it myself, now my hairdresser wants me to 'teach' her how to do it!! I had never heard of any cuts called gypsy, so I googled them. In my neck of the woods what you refer to as gypsy cuts, we considered them different lengths of a shag.

In 1973 I met this guy downtown San Antonio Texas and during that time, I used to wear my hair long and parted in the middle. Lord and be hold, he turned out to be a hairstylist hailing from California and he insisted on me letting him cut my hair and at the same token, I was attracted to him. Well I let him cut it and 💥 this guy cut my hair into a shag and it was sooo beautiful and made me look so pretty, he was amazing!!!! 👌👌👌correction: I was so attracted to him!!

In high school back in the 70s it was popular for girls to cut their own hair by bending over and combing all the hair to the top of the head, make a pony tail with a band and cutting the ponytail off straight across depending on how short they wanted it then, voila , shag hair cut! Real quick and looked cute.
That's how I'm doing it. Also dividing hair in front of ear into a Unicorn horn and cutting after the initial ponytail. I love the way it looks. As you said,,instant shag!

Cool. It doesn’t look good on me bc of face structure but I do have long layers now and really like it. It’s similar but not as short on top. Way over due for a cut 💇🏼♀️
I think it looks very good and a nice job by the stylist. What makes it anti aging is the movement of the hair. It’s very cool.
I loved the shag.
I had a longer version...used big rollers. It was beautiful; can't find anyone who can do it.

I think some stylists take forever simply to justify how much women are charged compared to men for a cut. I always know cut useless if stylist starts grabbing tons of products to cover up inferior cut. A good cut looks great after you get home wash hair and condition and hair falls naturally into a flattering shape.
@@lisadefries6718 That is totally true, even when the cut is wet before the blow drying sometimes you can tell it’s going to be a good cut, some stylist when they’re done and you can see you don’t really like it, they say “ wow looks really good” 🙄😬👎

I had this cut 20 years ago. When I got home I revised it by cross-pointing the ends and spiking with a few light layer cuts. Mousse it out and go!

Great haircut. You can tell you know what you’re doing because you were quick and efficient. Even though you didn’t check like others said, you can see it’s even when you blew it dry. It’s nice to see a straight and to the point haircut. Keep it simple.

I wore my hair like that in the 70s, but it was slightly angled..She looks youthful..I noticed people making negative comments on the style..It's a 70s style to go with the 70s clothing, which has been in style for the past couple of years, and doesn't seem to be going anywhere..The 70s was a great time for hair, high wasted jeans, platforms, angel tops(that's what we called them), Stevie Nicks..
Don't forget the Bell Bottoms! with ankle high 3inch heel boots, paisley or tie dyed shirt, a big buckled belt, with a Peace sign necklace. You either had waist length strait hair with strait cut bangs, or a short shag, or an afro, or,,,, for those of us daring ones, a Farah Fawcet cut, highlited. big hoop earrings, and a Disco Ball😍😎😚 ☮🚬🌱 😏😄😋💖

I had this same cut in the 70s but a little shorter - think Jane Fonda in "Klute". Have always wanted to try it again but the new idea of a shag cut is different and the younger ones don't know how to do it.

I had that haircut in the 80's. We had a party and people were taking pictures. I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. When we got the pictures back everyone commented what a cute guy, who is he and I said me. Needless to say, I don't have that hair cut anymore. But it looks good.

I have been wearing a "shag" most of my life since the 70s. At this point, I can do the front myself as it grows out. I am lucky, I have a woman that cuts just like this hairdresser did. But my hair is curly/wavy. I just bend over from the waist to blow dry. At 66, the cut still is exactly what I want. I usually cut it a few times between seeing her.

I've just cut my own hair like this and it looks fabulous, I put burgundy lowlights in from a box dye, and I'm thrilled that I look like David Cassidy, my idol. 😍

I had a shag in 1973 but hardly had to bother with a blow dryer and definitely not a round brush, just wasn't necessary. It was a good cut for me.

I used to have a short, asymetrical pixie-shag. I loved it, but it's all grown out now, lost it's shape. I also have big white roots. I have an appointment with my hairdresser in June. I can't wait!

True but Im tired of waiting for my hair to grow back after a bad cut, which is regularly. The biggest mistake I ever made was letting anybody talk me into messing with my hair. It was past my shoulders, thick, slight natural wave. I ended up with an old lady short style-just like hers. I even let her talk me into a perm. Im the last person on earth needing a perm. I say, I don't want a blunt, manly haircut. What the "stylist" hears is "Do whatver you want and make it as ugly as possible." 😬😖

Your stylist can should be able to help you out with that. If she's not teaching you or won't then you need a new stylist. I'm a stylist and I promise you can do that at home.
Yes. I dont let any client leave without knowing she can do it herself. That's part of the job.
Yes you can just blow dry your hair wit your head upside down it will fall back in place
@Anastasia and Deborah, you are definitely rare, I have never had a stylist neither explain or show me how to do anything with my hair…they’ve pushed a lot of product on me however, but unless you know how to use it, is a big waste of $$$.

I did not see you stand in front of the client to check for equal length.
Especially at the sides and where it joins the back.
I have had hairdressers make that mistake on my head and ended up lopsided in my perimeter too many times.

She cut 2 different angles in the back
I've noticed that too. She always raises her wrist before cutting and the angle created is slightly longer on the left side of each cut. This will make the sides non-matched.
They should have shown us the cut in the end. We never really saw the front and sides up close. I have a sort of shaggy cut now. I have always been a big fan of the shag. I like it to be blown dry against the sides of the face and goes forward. Then the back is left a bit longer and cut into a v, It is a very sexy cut when done right. Not the same old look too many women have. I wondered when this was done. May 2020 we don't have many salons open and if they are we have to wear a mask and go in one at a time.
Salons were not open where I live either. This must be a trump loving state. And the shag cut you have sounds really cute and classy.
