So I followed your tutorial and my hair looks so god-damned amazing, I did better following your techniques than any hairdresser has ever done. It's been 3 days and I am still looking at it in the mirror every 10 minutes. I cannot believe I did that! Thank you!

UPDATE: in case anyone else with fine hair reads this comment, go watch his video using a zigzag parting. It really does give “the finest cub cut in the land”, and with fine hair it’s harder to hide amateur cutting technique the way you can with thick & curly hair. Take time to do it right (I did the partings several times, including counting how many zigs & zags he did) and it’s brilliant
LADIES WITH FINE THIN HAIR OF A CERTAIN AGE- THIS CUT ROCKS!!!
I spent hours reading comments trying to find info how this turns out, so wanted to add my bit.
Me: middle aged, post menopausal who’s been growing out her grey and really not enjoying it. While I love my pepper and white streaks, what I’ve loathed is what my hair does without colour to rough it up: silky smooth droop that looks like a shower cap. Holds no curl, does nothing but sits flat.
I also have bad eyesight so I spent a LOT of time taking photos in the mirror to make sure I had the lines straight. When I put the front ponytail in it was a hilariously thin little wisp. The back was even worse- easily only HALF the size of the mannequin’s. I almost bailed but so glad I didn’t. For reference- the elastic I used, when squeezed into a line is 2 1/2” wide (those thin elastics) and I wrapped it 4x round. This was loose, but couldn’t quite get 5. Trying to give an idea of my hair and how thin it is for those of you who are worried.
This is probably one of the best cuts I’ve ever had. It seems no matter which salon I try, every hairdresser gives me something “mature” with blended layers where my hair looks lovely and like I’m the 50 year old I’m supposed to be acting like.
This… this is chunky, fun, with amazing height on the crown and absolutely gorgeous bangs and face framing wispy bits. The beautiful white streaks I’ve got going on underneath the rest are now finally visible thru the layering, and I’m left with only an inch or 2 of the brassy blonde I’ve been growing out.
My hair looks fantastic even though it’s got no product in. I don’t have curls but I have a few kinks, so my hair isn’t absolutely straight. That back ponytail leaves the first layer lying right at the occipital bone and it’s a perfect length for volume at the top - that thing I’ve been seeking with every cut my entire life.
Go for it. Go slow. Stop the video a lot and pay attention to angles- like the finger angle at the front ponytail where it’s 45° and raised at the back, pointing down towards what will be the fringe. I had to watch several times as the important info is at the beginning and it’s not clear when he makes his cut.
I don’t normally leave comments, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for this incredible video. I hope this helps some people decide whether to give this a go. My ponies were so little I was pretty sure this would be a disaster, but im so glad I took the risk

I too have very fine thin aging hair.. I have cut it myself with clippers and the largest comb and it’s always turned out well.. After a year of trying to grow my hair into a longer bob , it get to the length where it just hangs limply.. I’ve always wanted to try this cut. But was afraid my hair was to thin and fine…. But today I’m going to do it….wish me luck

Somebody, give this man a Hairbel Peace prize for succinctly showing us how to easily cut our own hair into a wonderfully floaty style!!! I love it! My hair to start was a bit shorter than the mannequin's, but I still followed his instructions and the cub cut came out exactly as I wanted... a simple shag, gave nice volume, and it's great for my thin hair. I even used fabric scissors, which was weird for point cutting, but still love how it came out!!

  • @Goldie-Ro

I just gave myself this haircut about an hour ago. I absolutely LOVE IT. (I put my back ponytail a little bit lower, to get longer layers.) I have fine, fluffy/wavy hair and it's blonde, so I totally look like Peter Frampton. Super easy to do, came out surprisingly even, and I just did a few snips in the front to soften it up even more. Thank you for the tutorial!
Edited to add that I put the front ponytail in line with my nose, and this cut works great even though I part my hair about an inch to one side of center. I think it must be the 45 degree angle cut that's the real magic here!

@@tinagrace6722 I have curly/wavy hair, and this cut still looks amazing. I sleep with my hair in a bonnet, and use my fingers to lightly fluff it out in the morning. I'm still absolutely shocked at how much my hair seems to love this cut. HIGHLY recommend you try this with your Robert Plant hair, especially the slanted 45 degree cut in the front. Just allow a bit extra for curl shrinkage, because your curls and waves will POP.

This is one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten in 46 years, and you helped me to do it myself! :) I have thick, wavy, course hair with multiple textures. I cut it wet and didn't have any fancy texturizing sheers so (after blunt cutting like in the video) I parted each ponytail in half to make vertical sections and then notched out the ends by point cutting with regular sheers from the beauty supply. I just put in leave-in and gel and let air dry, kind of twisting some pieces around my face and on the sides. I just cut it yesterday and have already gotten compliments. Thanks so much for this tutorial, Paul. I have it saved and will be cutting my hair like this for the foreseeable future.

Wow! This was so simple. I left it fairly long, with front long enough to tuck behind my ears, and back long enough to touch my bra. This looks and feels so wonderful! Took 5 minutes. I have a long wave in my hair, with curlier and straighter sections. It all blends. Lighter and looser than my old heavy long layers. This will be easier to handle during swim season with less maintenance.

Yes. I did it. I did it and I'm in SHOCK at how easy and beautiful this cut is! My fine hair is a lot more volumised and I feel incredible! I might cut some lenght though as it is a bit too thin now on the longest layers, so it can be a little more blunt there, but otherwise it is very stylish and really compliments my face and style. Done. Love it. Took me about 45 min. Last diy cut I did was a blunt bob and it took me two hours. 🤪 For a diamond shaped face leave the bangs longer, so that they are underneath your cheeks if you wanna slim down that area (or shorter above your cheeks if you wanna accentuate them). Looks absolutely gorgeous. I am still surprised every time that I am able to actually cut more or less of a straight line (I do have to correct it here and there but in the end it really is straight) at the back of my head in the mirror. Its a miracle every time. 😂 Thank you for this cool tutorial!!! ❤,

I have thick multi-textured curly hair and I managed to do this cut. I love it so far. I cut it wet then blew dried it and straightened it to check for wonkiness. To my surprise, there were only a few touch-ups that I had to do. I cut at least 4-5 inches and the back falls right below my shoulders which is exactly where I wanted it. The layering took off so much weight and even though the layers are a bit more choppy than I was going for, it blends well and I have movement. I have not tried it curly yet. I hope I love it curly just the same.

Before you cut the back, it actually looked really nice where it was starting to form a long point at the back. I would have gone with that shape rather than cutting straight across.

That would’ve defeated the purpose of a short haircut though don’t you think?

Does this haircut work at home if i have an undercut? thanks 👍
    Update:
It had worked...OMG never ever got that many compliments before!
But, depends on the undercut, the angle must be adjusted when you cut it. 😉

I impulsively decided to cut my own hair. I watched maybe 5 of your videos. This one was super easy to follow. I took me awhile to decide which would work best because I have a buzzed undercut making some of the longest layer cuts up higher for me. It was weird, one side did not have the textured look, one side did so I had to section it again to clean it up. Over all love the look

It took me the better part of an hour with my hair in the pony tails to get up the nerve to cut, but I did it. And I LOVE IT! I’m (a young) 61, have totally white hair, and this cut looks soooo good!! I imagine this is a cut that would look good on just about anyone. And it was easy! I didn’t do enough point cutting while in the pony so instead of trying to pull out sections, I’m just going to put it back in the pony and point cut. Would that work? 😂 Well, it’s what I’m going to do.
    Thank you!!

    • @emmsue1053

You could pull the back ponytail a little higher & hold it up to cut? Finished length will be longer though & might not blend in with the top as well? Get a friend to help?

If you lowered the back pony a little, would that then give longer layers and shorter length at the back? I'm not sure the ultra short layers at the back would suit me, but another inch or so might help. And if i did do it that way, would the front still blend ok?

    • @toosense
      @toosense ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, just do longer layers in the front too. Start with that, then you could go shorter or add a few layers after if you like.
