  • In pictures, the Honda Passport looks much smaller than it actually is. Slotting in between the Pilot and the CR-V, think of this as a two row, large size crossover from Honda. Let’s go for a drive.

    Such an under rated vehicle. I am with you, if you don’t need three rows get the Passport. My wife has a Ridgeline and the AWD is really good when you push this thing and relaxing in bad weather. Same as this AWD I think. I wish Honda put tuning knob on their vehicles and regular transmission Shift lever but seems like buttons are what we have to deal with for shifting nowadays. A great vehicle that will pass the test of time. That engine is simply great.

      Agree 100% on the button shifter, can’t stand it. If they are doing button ignitions, they should have a key hanger or something, I don’t like not having keys secured and they slide off the middle cubby. I do love this car though, it’s fun to drive and I hope to have mine until the wheels fall off.

    It always helps to know what the factory
    rated MPGs are vs. what your ACTUAL MPGs are.
    List them both, so people CAN take you literally.
    Transparency is honesty.
    Honesty will get you more loyal subscribers.

      Thank you, appreciate it. Lots to unpack here.
      One, this was a few years ago. Now, I report actual mileage.
      Two, my actual is horrific generally because I like to use the throttle.
      Three, after many years on TH-cam (and as with life) honesty does not earn more loyal subscribers.

    I bought a new 2021 Passpot Elite in Dayton Beach and still have it. The sticker price was $43,700. No idea where you got the $53,000 price from. Also it is quicker than almost every comparable model out there. Sport mode with traction control off makes it very fast for a SUV. 0-60 in a tad less than 6 sec.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Where did you get $53,000 from? This episode clearly states $41,680 as tested. No matter what the salesperson told you, sport mode and no tc doesn't make any vehicle quicker, not even a Honda Passport. I really need to do an episode on that.

      @@BrianMakse At 12:02 you said the Touring model you were testing was $50,300 in the US. My Elite which is a step above stickered several thousand below that. I did put the comma in the wrong place. I meant $50,300 like you said not $53,000 like I wrote. By the way, I never go by what a salesman says. Actually tested at .3 seconds faster in sport mode without tc on. Anyway, I enjoyed the video. Thanks for responding.

    They really are a well-equipped vehicle, but the people who seem to buy them all have bland color palates: silver or black. That's all I personally see. Seeing this Obsidian Blue example was actually refreshing.
    And yes, those black wheels need to go - totally agree with you.

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I see are boring colours here! The blue was nice, but not with these wheels!

    I parked my 2021 Passport nose to nose with a 2007-2013 Chevy Tahoe, expected to see a massive size difference and when I didn't, I ended up looking up the specs on both vehicles. The Passport is one inch narrower, height is almost the same (there's a lot of variation in height on Tahoes some are an inch shorter, some are several inches taller). Only thing the big Chevys (Tahoe and Suburban) the Chevys blow the Passport away in length. So there's a reason it looks small but drives big, it is big.

      I have always wanted a black SUV with black wheels, So I was so excited when they brought the Passport back out. Especially with the 20 invh wheels 😱I had previously owned an Odyssey and a CRV. The Odyssey was too soccer mom for me and the CRV was too small. I test drove a Pilot and I felt like I was driving a bus! So I'm very happy with my 2021 Passport Elite. The only complaint I have is that it's, black on black on black!! It's beautiful when it's clean but how in the world do you keep it clean?😂🤣😂 It's almost impossible!!

    brian...nice tosee the review.
    two questions.
    first, why would you generally be starting off in second gear resulting in moderate acceleration? why not use first gear???
    second, since i am in a position to replace an elderly SUV, i have been looking at the ford explorer. this car, after ALL my research and test drivings, seems to be giving me THE BEST VALUE for my money.
    plus living here in texas now, i feel AWD is, well, stupid, and FWD has always bothered me unless i lived in a snow-belt area.
    don't get me wrong, i like FWD and the benefits of interior space and the ability to avoid AWD or 4WD when not REALLY needing these.
    but outside of these climates, RWD is perfect and the explorer seems the best of all poor man choices.
    i am hoping the 2.3 is a long-term engine since the engine has been around. and looking at the weight of the explorer, it should last 150,000 miles.
    otherwise this passport as well as a used 6 cylinder grand cherokee???????

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Paul, the second gear thing has to be a fuel economy strategy. I don’t see any other reason, but I may be wrong!
      I have to mention that I’ve not driven the latest Explorer, so I can’t comment. Glad you’ve driven it and experienced it.
      FWD is far less enjoyable than RWD, that’s for sure, but there’s plenty of choice. Here’s one from left field: how about a 4Runner?
      I think Passport in awd would be a decent long term solution. The Jeep is a bit old now and the new one is on the horizon.

      Let's see, right now there is a law suit with the entertainment center. Issue with the front radar. There would be no one in front of me day /night. The dash would light up for (BRAKE) Never was fixed. That was the last straw. Paint issues, front hood repainted. Never matched, rear hatch not opening they replaced hatch struts. Rear seats would not fold down from the remote rear. I think I'm missing a couple things. Understandable a new car can have a couple minor things. It was at the dealer more than I drove it. Lemon law denied my claim. I sold my 2001 Nissan Pathfinder I bought brand new. Sold it with 86k miles. The for the Honda. The Nissan was never in the shop. Too bad Nissan went to unibody. I get in the 4runner, it starts. I'm very happy with it.

    Good review on this one.
    You are right about the Low-Speed Follow. They have it on the vehicles out of Alliston, but not Alabama and Ohio.
    Did you get to really get on it? The sound of the exhaust end engine in the higher RPM is really nice.
    I also agree with the wheels. We had a Passport on Pilot wheels, and it was a REALLY nice update.
