      They should have focus on building carriers. If they had more carriers, they could have convince the US for conditional surrender and kept Korea and Taiwan.

    Historical notes - Hey guys! So first off, I am not as knowledgeable in naval warfare as I am in the air war. So forgive me for any shortcomings or if this video is not as in depth as my normal aviation content, but I have done by best here and wanted to cover this topic. As far as the visuals go, there are a few scenes where I had to use other ships to represent the Yamato due to graphic limitations. Other than that, it should be fairly accurate! If you have any suggestions, fire away below and as always, consider supporting me on Patreon: Patreon.com/TJ3History

    I got 4. Never heard the last one, but glad to know now. Yamato has been one of my all time favorite warships ever constructed since i was a kid playing Silent Hunter and i saw her secondary and AA armament through the periscope of my submarine. That was the first warship game i had played and seeing Yamato instilled fear, wonder, and an unachievable goal for me all at once. I never did get to sink her sadly, but my love for WWI and WWII history, vehicles, and games has never ceased since that day.

    I'm surprised by getting all 5 correct. I had doubts about the # of torpedoes she was hit with. I knew it wasn't as high as the amount launched at the Musashi. I guessed about what happened to the survivors. I knew some of the escorting destroyers picked up survivors. Not the bit of them being strafed.
    Like a few others. I first heard of this ship from the old series Starblazers in the early 80's. When I got older I learned more about the actual ship. I'm still a fan of Uchu Senkan Yamato. My favorite anime franchise of all time.

    i honestly didnt expect the last one to be americans strafing, but i understand their anger. The japanese were known for torturing captured american airmen, one example in the Battle of Midway, there are reports of American flyers being tortured for intel before being killed, one of them being SBD gunner Bruno Gaido and his pilot from the Enterprise, who previously defended the Enterprise a few months earlier from a Betty bomber attempting to crash into the flight deck

I wonder if the Yamato will still be displayed today if it weren't sent on that suicide mission with no air cover. Probably not. Even if it was still docked it was still a threat and the Navy would of sent bombers and torpedoes to sink it.

    The japanese really focused on the main firepowers and some others, while forgetting quite a lot of things that made them be as good as their firepower, for example, fire control, gunfire systems, or whatever, etc etc...

    @darkbooger 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm kinda surprised I guessed all 5 correctly. The only ones that really took me a second were the number of torpedoes and what happened to sailors trying to swim away from the Yamato. The number of torpedoes made sense given how difficult the pilots had it since launching torpedoes wasn't exactly easy while under fire which is why 18 seemed a bit too much to me so I went for a more modest number. As for survivors trying to swim away from the sinking battleship I just put myself into the shoes of what ticked off aviators would've done back in the day given how the IJN treated downed Allied pilots and POWs. Some similar incidents happened in the European theatre as well so my assumption was that it wouldn't have been much of a leap for some of the fighter pilots to start strafing survivors in the water.
    I've always enjoyed reading and listening to stories about different sides of the conflict during WWII since it is often far more interesting than what is taught in the classroom. I really enjoyed the video keep up the good work.

    5/5, sad but true. being prepared to always fight to the death, if rescued, any survivors would inflict many more allied casualties, another example being the battle of the Bismarck sea.., also the numerous incidents of US forces attempting to rescue Japanese in the water only to have them detonate gr4enades, etc, on their rescuers, very tragic but true..

    It took fewer torpedoes than I thought. Otherwise I got the answers. The Yamato and Mushasi turned out to be the biggest white elephants of the War. Designed and constructed before WW2 losses demonstrated the Battle Ship no longer was the supreme weapon at sea.
    A huge drain on resources for little or no tactical or strategic gain. To big to risk using effectively. Until it was late to make use of them. Her last voyage was the largest kamikaze attack.
    The Bismarck and Tirpitze had some tactical success. Tirpitz tied up a great deal of RN resources for years until finally destroyed.

    History's greatest Battleship is sitting at the bottom of the ocean.
    Meanwhile USS Missouri stands proudly over the memorial to the USS Arizona and continued to serve for decades.
    This is without even bringing up New Jersey, Whiskey, and Iowa which are all equally still afloat.

    If the Yamato and Musashi were so powerful, why did both of them blow up like the HMS Barham? The only reason these two ships were considered powerful was due to their 18.1 inch main guns. Other than that, their designs and construction were weak.

    4 out of 5. I did not know about the strafing. I know it was war, but still, poor souls. On both sides. At least give a man a chance to fight for his life. Again: goes for both Japanese and US sides.... Anger and vengeance combined are an evil set of guidelines.
