Just FYI, the reason why kirara doesn't have cat ears is because she is a nekomata, in Japanese folklore they are often depicted without cat ears in their "human" form. "When a nekomata transforms into a yōkai, its tail splits down the center into two identical tails. These monster cats are most likely seen walking around on their hind legs and speaking human languages."
kaeya's design isnt meant to indicate that hes a captain because thats largely irrelevant to his character. its meant to show the parallels between him and abyss mages because of his connection with clothar + my theory is that venti will probably get a 2nd story quest after snezhnaya (i forgot how to spell sorry) because we're likely to get another mondstadt chapter. mondstadt archon quests in the beginning were just a prologue + mondstadt has a big connection to celestia and the abyss and whatever else the lore cares about i got to near the end of the video and HOW CAN U HATE CHILDE 😭😭😭💔💔 i am distraught
I APOLOGIZE FOR THE CHILDE HATE PLS FORGIVE ME 🙏 I hope we get to revisit Mondstadt on a grander scale, that would be so nice from a narrative standpoint. Venti has so much mystery behind him and I can't wait for it to be revealed! I can't believe I forgot about the Kaeya and Abyss Mage ties.
I understand that you said that Xiao's design seemed unbalanced with the lighter colors on top, and darker colors at the bottom. But when I was doing a little bit of research on him a while back, there was actually a reason why they split it up like that. It was meant to symbolize different parts of his character.
Beidou's eyepatch is in addition to her being a pirate. Pirates wear eyepatches and switch which eye theyre on based on light, so it's easier to adjust. Chevreuse's could be to aim more accurately without having to squint but im not too sure Kaeya's eyepatch is interesting bc like the other known characters related to the eclipse dynasty, they all cover the right eye. Dainsleif seems to prioritise 20/20 vision so i guess it's more of a mask with an eye hole. Tthe king of the khaenriah, Irmin, was said to be missing an eye Another thing that ties wanderer's current design is that he still has a golden feather which is proof of his identity as made by raiden. Also, apparently he keeps that little kabukimono doll in his pocket, sleeve or on his head under the hat. I really want to see it😞
god I get so frustrated when people say emilie is supposed to look like a perfumer when (if you actually care to play through her story) her designs makes a lot more sense when you take into account she is a FORENSIC CLEANSER, she literally says in the story quest that making perfume to her is just a side hobby
She does introduce herself as a perfumer first before we learn about her forensics. I think thats why you likely see so many refer to her as that instead.
Imo rosaria’s reworked skin is much better, idk why but I didn’t like the first one I felt like it was too much, and I find her reworked one fits her better because it gives her that assassin edge For Kaeya’s design, I love how much asymmetry is in it because of his hidden identity, each side has something different to the other. I love it so much but I agree that his torso is mind boggling. I always draw him in modern clothing because I can’t figure it out 😭
Her design grew on me,but the whole Wanderer vs Chasca debate got out of hand quickly Neither side should have aggravated the other and us in scaranation who just want to be peaceful already struggle with our bad reputation of more violent members
Great video I always felt a bit lost because I am a straight guy, but care about fashion in the way you speak about in this video. Like, I am not reading fashion zines and red carpet reviews, I am not on the other end of the spectrum either. I just care about color cords and cute or handsome choices. Among Genshin characters I like Charlotte best, thought I find the sleeveless+detached sleeves combo a bit played out. But otherwise she fits what I like most among female chars: medium-length hair, short sleeves and shorts which are more on the loose side (I guess you could call them culottes), and gold and white highlights.
Charlotte is super cute! I'm glad she was our introduction to the Fontaine cast and that she continued to play her journalist role throughout various quests. I'm glad you enjoyed the video too!
@@noxauranyx a lot of my friends go in and out of Genshin phases and i usually end up thinking about it when they talk about it! and i think for me the main thing is the characters. personality and design wise, most of Genshin's roster hits hard for me and I find myself thinking about them a lot when I'm not playing. it's also just a fun game to pick up and play when I feel like it, taking things slow. when I first started it was the pandemic and I kinda rushed to be endgame, my life was just Genshin and Genshin content. I started to fall behind around Inazuma and I found exploration there to be more tedious, and because I felt pressure to 'catch up' and clear everything asap I got burnt out. I also built a lot of units I didn't really like just because Content Creators told me they were good lol. now i'm having a lot of fun just taking it slow! and i also think Genshin's in-game sense of community is really good even if co-op itself is rough. like, I can't even FIND anyone to run co-op domains with in WuWa ever and I'll sit in queue for 10+ mins sometimes just hoping. I don't feel like I actually connect with anyone about the game which is sad! but with Genshin people are open and friendly and willing to do stuff w people, for the most part. Tbf both Thoma and Chiori have Inazuman visions. By your logic, Wanderer should be considered Inazuman, except he has a Sumerian vision, so he’s considered as a Sumeru character (In all fairness, the “ordered by region” is a bit misleading and should be more accurately called “ordered by their vision’s region”)
Out of curiosity, how would you design Yelan? Especially to imply that she's a spy? It should be noted that her design's supposed to be inspired by 1930s Shangai fashion.
Ayaka's socks (tabi) were traditionally made from hide and would be waterproof! For outdoor use, tabi were usually additionally reinforced. As for Yanfei's hat, it resembles a hat worn by legal officers in ancient China (xie zhi hat). It's funny, but I think this is what they were going for :) In any case, amazing video, I'm appreciating the design of these characters more! :D Will you be doing Natlan at some point?
Fun fact about Fischl's summertime outfit that i dont believe was brought up is that the wongs on her back actually stick out now as actual wings, no longer just tattoos lol
I’m a “retired” genshin player and one of the things that i love about the game is character design. Im a sucker for lore and how it relates to a character’s design.. with that being said, out of all the characters in the game, i have a really big issue with Beidou. Her lore literally doesn’t match her design. She’s supposed to be this battle-hardened pirate who beat a sea monster before ever getting her Vision. I feel like adding some scars like Razor/Bennett would give the idea that she’s survived many battles. Short hair or something up and out of the way bcoz you know, she fights and its less to think about when you’re mostly out at sea, and the heels.. i mean i get it, women in fantasy settings always have a tendency to look conventionally pretty but a character can be attractive and sexy without even trying too hard. Instead just give them more character and uniqueness so that they STAND OUT from the rest of the pretty and feminine designs which theres already a lot of. It’s been a while since i last played but im still very much annoyed about it.
That's true! If at the very least there was a mention that her eyepatch was hiding a nasty scar from the battle with the sea monster that would have been nice for her design and character. I did realize while looking at all of them sooo many of the women had heels. I understand that heels are pretty but my goodness. I agree that Beidou is a character that would work best without them. She's already got an outline for boots, it would be cool if they committed to that!
24:42 we do learn, read her character stories. It should be her vision one. Long story short she lost her eye while fighting a sea monster visionless and after that she got her vision.
43:46 I actually like that they made her boots dark brown. I like the way the stick out. I think if they made them the same color as her hat it would look um.. questionable. I can see the Fontaine influence. Or more rather the western influence. Her outfit reminds me of a lady going on a walk or having time in her garden.
The only charater who doesn't have that signature gold on them apart from their vision is Kokomi (and Aloy), technically Chiori and Sayu doesn't have that gold either becuse even though that color is present on their outfits it is made out of fabric and not something metalic so it does look quite bit different, and there is also Yaoyao whose bells are made out of gold but it is a real gold colour and not that genshin "gold" that is on everyone
I have been waiting on Varka since I heard about him being a possible character. He's a very interesting character that went toe to toe with El Captaino and the only other person is a DAMN ARCHON.
This was a good video and finally I had time to watch it. My 2 cents no one asked for about some of the designs: - Navia is my favorite. I may be biased because she's my favorite from many points of view (personality, story, gameplay etc.), but the outfit inspired by the Rococo style with a bit of fan service sprinkled in and the yellow-black mix makes her really stand out. - Yoimiya wasn't a fan at first, but I like her color palette and I feel like her design reflects her personality. The bandages are called sarashi which are common in shonen anime and manga. - Nahiha looks pure and innocent, perfectly matching her personality. As a god, she does stand out among the others, even though her design is the simplest. - Klee's alternative outfit is simply adorable. No need for another reason to like it. - Kaveh has some excellent sense of fashion. - Noelle is one of my first favorite designs. I love the color palette and being a maid wearing armor. - Yae Miko, I like her because I like Yae Sakura and fox girls, also I like fan service. - Candace, you described exactly why I like her. - Wriothesley would have on my top favorite if it wasn't for the coat hanging on his back. I'm not a fan of this on any character except Yelan which has a good lore reason for wearing it. - Mona's original outfit is nice, I like her hat, but I hate her hairstyle. - Gorou is my least favorite, both as design and as a character. Imagine being the leader of a separatist movement against a nation ruled by a god who appointed a half-yokai as her general, yet you appoint your hipster friend-zone who's scared by a fox who loves teasing people as your general? Then your general decide to fight a war dressed like that.
Thank you so much for watching, and I hope you enjoyed! I have to agree that Navia is one of my top favorites as well! I didn't even think about Gorou's fear of foxes during his entry. Inazuma has its good parts but so many of the characters fell into gimmicks- Gorou's fear of Yae felt like one of them. Raiden's love for dango/desserts is another, Itto's comedy relief, etc. What could be interesting personality traits become overused. I always enjoy hearing other's opinions regarding character design so I liked reading your thoughts!
@@noxauranyx I appreciate when the game is not taking itself completely seriously, but at the same time know when to respect serous moments. My issue with both Gorou and Kokomi is that they feel like LARP-ing the entire conflict. I can't take them seriously even during their serious moments. I'm not saying that a military leader should be some generic fearless and stoic guy, nor a charismatic man like Welt Yang in HI3, but when the gimmick of that character is that he's a good boy scared by a woman who secretly did more for his island than him and Kokomi ever managed to do, then it's very hard to find a single scene where I can take him seriously. At least with Raiden liking dango I don't find it to be much of an issue. If I was isolated from the world for years then get out and try a dessert I never tried before I would fall in love with it too even though it's not the most popular. Itto being a comedic character isn't that bad either as he's not mangle in serous scenes. At least, they got better with the gimmicks in recent updates. From many overworked characters, to LARP-ers fighting in a real war, to more believable character traits. For example, Lynette is my favorite depiction of an introvert. Not constantly nervous talking in high-pitched voice, not socially inept, just someone who needs more personal space and time for herself. I wish more characters will use her as a template instead of being another stereotypical one.
personally i hateeeeeeeeee Mona's swimsuit, half her butt is out, it's so sexualized it made me uncomfortable. the rework they made is one of my favorite designs in the game, i think it fixed so many things and looks a lot more proper and pretty for Mona
I mean I get it but thats to be expected with any gacha game lol The target demographic is people that might usually fw mainstream anime, and so there is usually a lot of fanservice in the designs alone. And usually it works out in terms of achieving a cool design while its also sexualized. Like a lot of the designs in hoyos previous game, honkai impact 3rd Most if not all of the designs are sexualized on some level, but they are still great designs that are cool, make the characters stand out, have story significance (since they change the outfit a character will have on during certain parts of the story), and they give a pretty good idea about the character. They even convey character arcs, so there is a story that you can grasp from the designs alone.
amazing video, out of all these characters which character's design is your favourite? Mine is Capitano although he is not playable (yet) i've been saving for him since arlecchino's banner and going strong!
That's a tough one! The first one that comes to mind design one is Navia. If you've been saving since Arlecchino's banner you'll be plenty ready for Capitano! Best of luck on your pulls, and I'm happy you enjoyed the video!
@@noxauranyx thank you for your answer, I just subscribed so I'll watch your other vids because I really liked this one! Hopefully he is playable in natlan since he had so much screen time this patch.. thanks for the answer. Navia is definitely in my top 5 too, she is so cute and I love her outfit so much!
I will never understand Hu Tao's design. No offense. For me it's just brown blob on the top and white school socks of all things at the bottom. It looks weird. If she had some white on the top as well, it'd make sense. But her top is too heavy looking in comparison with her bottom. That coat with huge sleeves looks too warm, while the shorts and shoes are more on a summer side. I don't really like her hat, maybe if her hair was of different color or style, i'd like it, but overall her design looks like a total mess for me personally. No harmony at all. Her design was the main reason i never pulled for the character. Even though she has good character, she's funny and really strong as a dmg dealer. I'm more of a visual player than the lore one (with a few exceptions here and there). So yeah, i'll never understand Hu Tao's design and people who like it, but i don't have anything against people who like her design or simply fine with it. And in the early game i always recommended other people go for Hu Tao if they like her, want strong unit and comfortable with her playstyle in the test run. Though she was always a personal skip for me.
Personally, I think she’s one of the best designs. My own interpretation of her design, i think her top is heavy looking to reflect on her role and responsibility as funeral director, while her hair style, shorts and shoes reflect on how compared to her role, she is young, carefree and just doesn’t seem to be what you think of when you think of funeral director. Her colour scheme makes sense because she’s a funeral director, it would be disrespectful if she wore white (socks being an exception). But i do wonder, which design do you consider the best ?
Hey that's totally ok! One of the fun parts about character design is that what one person may love another person may not enjoy and its interesting to see everyone's opinions! I remember Hu Tao was definitely a big unit to go for all the way back then because of how strong she was! Even today I still use my Hu Tao in some of the bigger fights. I'd like to know your favorite designs from the game! :D
@@Who-ke1ru i see that's a good explanation, though i still don't like how it all looks like. If we compare two brown blobs, i'd say i prefer designs like Zhongli. He was the first character i said "wow" to when i saw him. He made me stay in the game. His design is complicated but you still can see "suit" theme, which makes him look sophisticated and elegant. He has a lot of brown as well, but bc the outfit uses different shades the overall look doesn't look messy, and golden accents really complement the whole thing. Like you look at the guy and instantly think he either rich (though he doesn't have any money) or someone important (though his human job is actually not so much). Smth like that i think. I also like Eula, Navia, Wriothesley and Ningguang designs. New Xilonen is also to my taste, but i just like all geo characters, all of them have nice designs, even Gorou (i just like those turquoise accents). And i actually like Baizhu's design a lot, though i understand why many people don't like his outfit. And that's fine ^^
@@noxauranyx yeah, i even remember her first leaks, like blurry screenshots of her charged attack. She was supposed to be a 4* actually, according to first leaks, but because of the hype around new polearm character (people do love polearm characters) she became a 5* unit and all her stats have been raised. That's what i remember at least back in the days. Anyway, she turned out to be a good unit, still doing her job just fine. But i still won't pull for her ahaha, i prefer geo units ;) My favorite designs are Eula, Zhongli, Wriothesley, Baizhu, Ningguang, Navia. I actually liked Shenhe's design a lot when i saw her drip marketing in 2.4. And i wish Itto had those muscles. Is it a crime to say i like his design on the splash art more? Ahaha... I like all geo characters, none of them disappointed me so far with their designs. New Xilonen also looks amazing, i kinda liked all characters from Natlan i saw so far, i wish i could get all of them, but alas, i'm f2p, so i'll go for Xilonen bc she's geo, i don't need any more reasons.
I am a bit sad that you listed chiori as a inazuma character and not a fontainien one. She lives in fontain and choses to lesve her home land. I would have understand if you have put everyone in there home land for this list but you didn't with wsnderer and Thoma.
Chiori has an Inazuma vision and in picture events she is considered an Inazuma character. Her character splash also has an Inazuma background. Edit: in contrast, these things in game classify Wanderer as a Sumeru characters.
In my opinion most of the new characters look ai generated, especially the natlan ones. They dont have the magic of the Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru character designs
I'm happy you enjoyed! As I was going through all the characters I couldn't believe that gold was actually used on everyone. Even Wriosthesley and Arlecchino- designs with mostly silver, couldn't escape.

15:53 I am also waiting for Varka
I wish for any new Mondstadt character its been so long!
@@noxauranyx Yep, I Hope he has a beard though

personally i hateeeeeeeeee Mona's swimsuit, half her butt is out, it's so sexualized it made me uncomfortable. the rework they made is one of my favorite designs in the game, i think it fixed so many things and looks a lot more proper and pretty for Mona
Fuck censorship, and fuck Mona’s garbage alt skin.
I mean I get it but thats to be expected with any gacha game lol
The target demographic is people that might usually fw mainstream anime, and so there is usually a lot of fanservice in the designs alone. And usually it works out in terms of achieving a cool design while its also sexualized. Like a lot of the designs in hoyos previous game, honkai impact 3rd
Most if not all of the designs are sexualized on some level, but they are still great designs that are cool, make the characters stand out, have story significance (since they change the outfit a character will have on during certain parts of the story), and they give a pretty good idea about the character. They even convey character arcs, so there is a story that you can grasp from the designs alone.
You really let a outfit bother you? All the issues in the game and Mona's butt cheeks isn't one of them haha
@@worthyedge9307 "expected" is an excuse. and that's just my opinion what does that have to do with anything?
@@devilkazumi578 the video is about the outfits so i'm talking about that. doesn't mean it's the only thing i care about
imo the best character design is candace!!! its soooo pretty!!
also fun fact yanfei hat and book made it more clear to chinese audiences far she is in the legal system
You really spoiled us with a 1.5 hour video 🙏
This one is an experiment! I hope you enjoy!
amazing video, out of all these characters which character's design is your favourite?
Amazing vid ☺️
Aaa thank you!

And not a single word about his child face? Really?
But i still won't pull for her ahaha, i prefer geo units ;)
My favorite designs are Eula, Zhongli, Wriothesley, Baizhu, Ningguang, Navia. I actually liked Shenhe's design a lot when i saw her drip marketing in 2.4. And i wish Itto had those muscles. Is it a crime to say i like his design on the splash art more? Ahaha... I like all geo characters, none of them disappointed me so far with their designs. New Xilonen also looks amazing, i kinda liked all characters from Natlan i saw so far, i wish i could get all of them, but alas, i'm f2p, so i'll go for Xilonen bc she's geo, i don't need any more reasons.
doesn’t razor’s coat have all the over the top designs bc he got it from diluc or did i read that in a fan comic

Respectfully, I think you are wrong. I absolutely am loving Natlan
Gay men are still definitely waiting for Varka. Particularly waiting and hoping he'll be a big boi instead of the usual tall male character model.
With L Capitano being a skinny guy with a big helmet my hopes that Varka will be an absolute unit of a man died.

This was great to watch 🥹 also amen on the abundance of gold accents and accessories as well as well as the limited range of skin tones
I'm happy you enjoyed! As I was going through all the characters I couldn't believe that gold was actually used on everyone. Even Wriosthesley and Arlecchino- designs with mostly silver, couldn't escape.
