There was also a massive political narrative. The original Wizard of Oz was deeply esoteric and archetypal in nature. The Wicked story is an inversion of this. With Dorothy portraying the goddess/Persephone aspect, Oz being her subconscious mind/the underworld, the Wizard being her inner Christ Consciousness, the wicked witch and the good witch being the dualistic nature of the Sophia, the emerald city being the heart, the yellow brick road being the central channel up which the kundalini rises, and the characters in Oz, being unhealed aspects of her that get healed within the heart. There’s probably more to it than this, but you get the gist. To invert this is, quite literally, satanic/Ahrimanic.
My main concern is how to survive all of these financial and political crisis, especially in light of the US political power scuffle. The government has really called things more difficult for its citizens, and we can't sit back and bear all the consequences of the bad governance.
Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz as a political treatsie espousing the free and unlimited coinage of silver. The yellow brick road symbolizes the gold standard which backed the dollar during those days. The Tin man was the Northern working man electorate, The Cowardly Lion was William Jennings Bryant, the girl, Dorothy was symolic of the Populist Movement which was centered in the Mid-West. Every character represents a part of the political scene in the 1890's. Scholars have known this since the 1890's. The Wizard was the President of the US of course. We studied this in college, a long time ago before gender studies.
Like little kids we do what they do pretend we understand things that are horrible and to removed from life So we make movies and books to understand that they too are a part of life that moves on with or without compromise
I have loved Wicked since I first heard Defying Gravity in 2004. Then... I fell in love with the story. And I feel a lot of people are missing the brilliance of it. Wicked is about courage. It's about standing up to authority and speaking truth to power and standing up for what's right, even if that means you're on your own. It's about the power of propaganda and state character assassination. Who is good? Who is evil? It all depends on our level of courage and who we decide to listen to. And lastly, it's about female friendship. The musical will always be my first love and my favorite cause.. live is always better. That said, the movie was amazing.

In the Original Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy woke at the end and realized she was only dreaming. So what happened to the dream? Who was Dreaming? Wake up Properly.
This is one of the better productions to come out of Hollywood. They made some scenes longer than they needed to be but the dancing, music, costumes and singing was great. I had tried to read the book which was very twisted and perverted but the musical is fun and very entertaining.
A friend asked me to read Wicked in 2003 when I was in Iraq. I found it to be a deeply vile and sinister fiction novel. In spite of the fact that the biggest money making films are rated G, Hollywood will continue to put most of it's production money into the darkest and most violent films for public consumption and influence. The movie doesn't appear as terrible as the book though.
Hollywood celebs have an entourage of people managing their day to day lives. From shoots and interviews to the clothes they wear, every little detail is decided for them. That’s why they appear to be out of touch.
I used to work in and around the entertainment industry here in L.A., and you are exactly right about all that you have just said. I was working for a unique high end store called Maxfield's in West Hollywood and was sent with one of the salespeople to Lionel Ritchie's house where we went with two full racks of clothing for him to try on and get his Fashion Consultant's approval to buy and start using. The clothing I was told he was getting rid of equaled almost the same amount we brought with us, and everything looked like it had only been worn once or maybe twice and never touched again.
It's not that they "appear" to be out of touch, it's why they are out of touch. These actors and actresses have no concept of what "real" is because they don't live in reality.
The holly tree (wood) used to cast spells. It's the revelation of the method they have to tell you what they're doing and you accept it without objecting.
I saw the movie and thought it was stunning. Russell’s take is correct-the archetypal nature of the story shines through anything else in the way. Really the story of two unlikely best friends who make choices that impact their relationship, along with showing the power of kindness, and the consequences of becoming disillusioned and embittered. Soooo many deep lessons I was able to extract for my 7 year old daughter who saw it and absolutely loved it. Also, Amala Ekpunobi did an EXCELLENT review of the movie!
I agree it was a great movie. As someone who saw the original broadway production in the early 2000s as a kid, I appreciated that they stayed true to the source material. Some of the comments on here are getting ridiculous… people thinking that this story was written to push some kind of “woke” agenda, not realizing this musical has been around for 20+ years before we had all this divide 🙄 some people just want to be mad no matter what. I’m so happy that there is FINALLY actually something worth going to the theatres for other than the trash Hollywood has been churning out lately.
Like judge Judy said, There are reasons why you do things, but there are no excuses. When you start excusing criminal behaviour, that is the start of chaos.
Don't follow the herd, thinking this movie is for young children. It is full of violence and darkness. I think you said your children are 6 and 8 years old. I strongly feel that the movie is not appropriate for that age.

The whole point of all entertainment and music in the west is to manipulate your emotions - to get you excited, scared, disgusted, to brutalise and desensitise you, and triggered. Dopamine addiction. The antidote is extreme sobriety.
Wicked falls into the category of films where I will probably give it a watch when it comes out on DVD and I can borrow it from the public library for free. That way I can see what the fuss is about, turn it off if I don't like it, and save money.
Soneone else may have mentioned (I can’t be bothered reading over 400 comments!) that “The Wizard of Oz” wasn’t the first colour film. Off the top of my head, I can think of “A Star is Born” from 2 years earlier, which was made in Technicolour, but there were also colour films made by hand-painting each frame, going back to the silent period. “The Wizard of Oz”, with its switch from black and white to colour, was revolutionary, which is why many think it’s the first colour film.
This musical has been around for 20+ years and the political and social themes have ALWAYS been relevant. What you see people arguing about right now is interpretation in regards to how the political allegory makes “their side” the protagonists or antagonists as it relates to the modern political/social world… but as I said, this musical was never written with today’s world in mind. So guess what it doesn’t have to be controversial 🙄 I for one just wish people would shut up and just enjoy it (or not, if they don’t like musicals).
Jesus, yeah I’m a free thinker like everyone else who would watch Russles channel. But there’s so much hate here in the comments. And sadly I kinda just see me from another lenses I guess. I’ve said a lot of these comments about literally every other movie/short series however I’ve been a fan of this specific musical since I was little (so I am biased) but they actually did it justice. I get it’s annoying to see the interviews but maybe just stay off your phone as much lol. But I completely agree, shut up and watch it. Or don’t.
Hollywood has lost all originality. Another woke twisted version of a classic. I quit spending money Hollywood movies. No entertainment value whatsoever.
It was a lovely film. Watch it, enjoy it, keep living life and doing your best to be a good person. Dont take this or any movie too seriously... Its a lovely production and I doubt you will have any difficulty parenting your kids afterwards.
This has nothing really to do with the Judy Garland movie, which was based rather loosely on the original books, written for 9-12yo girls. There are plenty of archetypes here, but they are basically Orwellian, good is bad, war is peace, and green is the new black.
The author of the book this is based on, Gregory Maguire, does this. He tells a variety of stories from the “villain’s” perspective and it is brilliant. Gets us away from a borderline mentality, encourages thinking about different perspectives, and introduces more complex characters and ideas. Loved the book, thought the musical was ok, not sure if I’ll see the movie though.
The movie is about the wife of Shrek and Barbie going to Hogwarts were everybody except Harry Potter is gay and hagrid and Dumbledore are the evil ones ….dont waste 3 hours that’s the story.
I haven't seen the movie, but I did see the Broadway musical when it came to Minnesota. It was wonderful. As long as the movie stayed true to the original Broadway musical and didn't go "woke", then it should be good.
I've seen the stage production and the movie and they were both fantastic. People need to quit fear mongering. That shit is why innocent people were tortured and killed by so called good, God fearing folk. The worst kinds of people, take a look at history.
It was a great movie, my daughters loved it… sometimes it’s just nice to have a family outing where everyone is happy and discussing what they just saw
The scary thing is that the “deeper themes in life” are so much deeper and more nuanced than your (or my) puny brain can comprehend. This film explores a small amount of that truth. Meant with all respect. You should see it Russell.
I have already seen Wicked, and while it does bring back memories of when I first saw The Wizard of Oz, it makes a mockery of the evil witch by just making her out to be someone who is merely misunderstood for being different with an obvious underlying nod to that being Racism towards her as well. It also makes the Wizard out to be the true evil in Oz instead of the benevolent benefactor he was in The Wizard of Oz. In other workds they are trying to not only blur the lines between Good & Evil, they are also adding in Racism, Classism and that being a unique individual is wrong. I could go on and on about more flaws and stark contrasts between the original movie and this one that is supposed to be what looks like 1 of 2, or maybe even 3 prequels that are supposed to be in a time before The Wizard of Oz storyline take place... but I would just suggest you go see it for yourselves. If you take your kids to see it be ready to have a discussion with them to cover the underlging garbage contained within it afterwards.
My kids would hate this anyway. Good thing. Also, not surprised they attempt to make the successful man the bad guy in the story. Reflective of the beliefs or our current culture
Other than seeing thru the power structures at hand, the “Wicked” one was made a scapegoat from her birth and on into scapegoat hood coming from the powers at OZ. The “wicked” one rejected what she saw as an invitation to be a part of a system she could not take part of. She was honest.

We studied this in college, a long time ago before gender studies.
very cool, other the seeing the film as a child i never knew any of this
I only realized this when I did it for a school play years later ... It's brilliant!
Like little kids we do what they do pretend we understand things that are horrible and to removed from life
So we make movies and books to understand that they too are a part of life that moves on with or without compromise
Thank you for sharing friend, you learn something new every day
Bullshit!
I wouldn’t take my children to a movie named Wicked. Why would you want to expose your children to such evil trash.?!
I know, a story about bullying and exclusion, so hideously evil. Jesus.
😂
The problem is they have uses characters that already had a deep meaning and then they have distorted it. That is the problem. They could have invent brand new characters for the story and then it's be ok
@@nuria.l-l-9827I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s like a fan fiction. They would’ve never wrote it if they didn’t love the wizard of oz and they decided to make a new story based on it. I genuinely don’t see what’s wrong with this. It’s not like people can’t watch the wizard of oz anymore because wicked exists
@@agt1234567890 the problem is the distortion of the original characters, turning good into evil and evil into good. They have changed what they mean and represent and how It links to the archetipes in the colective mind.
It is like making films with friendly demons.
@@nuria.l-l-9827I have had to change perspective on a lot of things in life. People I thought were doing good, were in fact not. People I thought were doing evil, wasn’t to the extent I had been led to believe. And all I did was change my perspective. Why can’t this movie reflect that very real life thing that happens? That things aren’t always as it seems, even in a story everyone knows and have been told over and over?
Maybe we’ll have to agree to disagree. And that’s okay. 😊
Another woke show where bad choices make the villian evil, but the movie makes her a "victim".
This is why I cancelled Netflix 10 years ago.
I hate that trend! Making the bad guy the victim is not the way to tell a story. It’s why we have all this woke nonsense. Wickedness never was happiness.

Just watched it. It's quite good but an hour too long and is a part 1 so doesn't have a proper end. Nothing much woke about it apart from animal rights and diverse cast. And abit about making a fake enemy (the talking animals) that can either be woke or based depending of POV.
It celebrates magic and witches. Not a fan because of that.
The Definition of the word Wicked: 1. evil or morally wrong ---- This is clearly a celebration of evil. Isaiah 5;20 ~ Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
be respectuful to witches and magic pls otherwise they get offended
so do you. your warlock Jesus ain't much better.
@@MC-ep8cuJesus, a warlock? Offensive, but ok? Do you have grounds for this argument?
Whether you like it or not, he died for you. So him and God let you choose if you’d benefit from it or not. But I don’t know you or what your life has been. I hope you are doing alright.
Precisely people who use religion to manipulate others are wicked.
Imagine there's no heaven...
Another, "it's ok to be Evil if you Feel justified, Villains are actually just misunderstood, and Evil is Entitled to be free even if they're Guilty" child conditioning "film"...
I'll stick to the original Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland thanks. Wizard has been made to take advantage of the original film to make money.. nothing else. The round of interviews promoting the film were utterly bizarre.
It seems Halloween themes are all-year round! And by Halloween I mean the potentially occult!
The devil doing devil things, as usual
@Ruby_Villain Hiding in plain sight as always, I guess people have to choose not to notice evil these days!
Normalizing the occult. We know who's running that show.
We truly live in dumb stupid times. Wake me up when it's over
I've seen clips, I won't waste my money.😂😂😂😂😂 I prefer the original one!
It's a completely different story than wizard of oz - like how 50 shades of grey is twilight fanfiction but has nothing to do with twilight
I wouldn't watch it if you paid me. Nor will I spend another cent towards Hollywood. The title of the movie should tell you all you need to know.
In the Original Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy woke at the end and realized she was only dreaming. So what happened to the dream? Who was Dreaming? Wake up Properly.
The Bible already answered that question. Christ said, "Not one is born good and righteous." We're sinners, that's why He came.
Jeremiah17 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
"What no-one noticed about Wicked". The beginning, the middle, the end?
?
What end?
This is one of the better productions to come out of Hollywood. They made some scenes longer than they needed to be but the dancing, music, costumes and singing was great. I had tried to read the book which was very twisted and perverted but the musical is fun and very entertaining.
So you've been mesmerized by evil.
Not "appear" they truly are OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY
This.... Thank you, people don't get it.

Isn't it ironic that while they get upset about the CEO situation they also glorify someone being wicked because of bullying 🤔
Like judge Judy said, There are reasons why you do things, but there are no excuses. When you start excusing criminal behaviour, that is the start of chaos.
It didn't seem overly woke to me. I was kind of expecting that, but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved it.
Oh wow! So that actress CAN speak louder than a low whisper!? 😂 why are they soooo fucking weird during interviews though?
They are both completely cringey. 🤢🤮
I loved the movie. I cried in a lot of parts. I am not a fan of the actors but some parts of the movie were so touching. 😿😿😿
Don't follow the herd, thinking this movie is for young children. It is full of violence and darkness. I think you said your children are 6 and 8 years old. I strongly feel that the movie is not appropriate for that age.
Thanks for shouting out Critical Drinker. His reviews really help decide what I will watch. Wicked wasn't 1/2 bad.
Oz =ounce of gold, yellow brick
TIN man= tax identification #
Straw Man = stand in taxation
Toto = Latin (in all, completely)
Many more can't remember all😢😢
Smart I knew this I bet many of those zzzz are not
Straw man is the legal fiction out name in ALL CAPS we are declared dead at birth .. all given to everyone with a number which is birth certificate placed on stock market. Men of straw. Vessels. The Crown gives the dead corpse - orations 7 years to come back from dead after that they take control of the estate. It’s all on gov. Uk legislation website so not a conspiracy theory but conspiracy fact
Dorothy is from Greek Dorothea, meaning Gift from God.
I really liked it!! Hated that it was part 1 though…. And now we have to wait a year for the second half …. It was pretty extraordinary… and man those girls can sing!!!
The first five minutes were good. Then the movie started.
Russel, you are just cool man… love your insight into things.
The whole point of all entertainment and music in the west is to manipulate your emotions - to get you excited, scared, disgusted, to brutalise and desensitise you, and triggered. Dopamine addiction. The antidote is extreme sobriety.
They deal with the tropes by asserting that WE are "God" and that asserting our own identity is "God's will" on Earth.
Cinema is just Jaguar now.
I dislike Hollywood cinema, and strongly dislike the paradigms of narrative
Unfortunately people will still bring their kids
Wicked falls into the category of films where I will probably give it a watch when it comes out on DVD and I can borrow it from the public library for free. That way I can see what the fuss is about, turn it off if I don't like it, and save money.
If you give them something to fear, and then save them..
They will trust you to care for them..
Then they are yours.
Then you can FUGG-EM-UP big time???
Classic hegelian dialectic technique.
THANK YOU RUSSELL 💜🙏💜
Or don’t.
I enjoyed the stage play with Christen Chenowith and Indina Menzel much more. Much better singing voices for one!
I went with my grandson and this movie hurt my soul.
That voice that Ariana Grande is using for this role is annoying
I think you should review films that haven't even been made yet.
😂
I can't do musicals even if I liked the actors 😂
Saw it in 3D.... it really was excellent! Definitely recommend seeing it soon in theaters in 3D while you still can!
These two women act pretty strange in the interviews that I have seen. I mean extremely strange.
Hollywood has lost all originality. Another woke twisted version of a classic. I quit spending money Hollywood movies. No entertainment value whatsoever.
The book was disgusting and woke. Evil. I refuse to have anything to do with it. It is a travesty of the OZ series.
I think the lesson I've seen reinforced is that Discrimination is more constructive than Inclusion (apply wisdom, maturity, courage and empathy).
You can't beat the original 1939 movie.
Her minnie mouse 🐭 voice ahhhhhhhh make it stop
What I remember most from the Wizard Of Oz is 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain'.
I don’t like these movies mate…
But thanks anyway .,,.
DEI film no doubt …
Does it check all the boxes?
All actors and actresses in the film can sing, dance, act, emote, and convey a myriad of emotions. Therefore, yes. It ticks all boxes.
Love it 🥰 great insite buddy, depict the truth always
Hollywood lost its way many years ago…..
The witch Glenda was the true villain in the original. Metaphors are simply influential lies...
What version did yOU see?
@katepenk3401 Original...
The Wicked Witch is a metaphor for Malignant Narcissism. According to our current understanding of narcissism, narcissists are made, not born.
MOVIE REVIEW WITHOUT VIEWING MOVIE! 🤣🤣yes, more of these please!
I was disappointed in the movie. Maleficent was better at the " what makes a person evil" trope.
Its just more ADOCTRINATION AND FULL BLOWN NORMALIZATION OF EVIL AND VICTIMIZATION OF THE “oPpReSsEd”
RIDICULOUS.
Other than seeing thru the power structures at hand, the “Wicked” one was made a scapegoat from her birth and on into scapegoat hood coming from the powers at OZ. The “wicked” one rejected what she saw as an invitation to be a part of a system she could not take part of. She was honest.
Wicked is insane self-gratifying nonsense
Don’t take your kids to see that garbage, Russel
I am expecting a new compass coming out soon where North is replaced by a rainbow and it becomes illegal to use the words "true North" because it is supposed to be discriminatory against the South...🤪oh and the words night and day are planned to be replaced by "time when you need ( or do not need) artificial light"...
Watching that clip in the beginning gave me the same feeling when someone takes their finger nails down a chalkboard.
Remember when Hollywood put beautiful women in films? Sure miss those days.
