Mental: Become a Tight Assertive Player

  • An exploration of a player types philosophy ubiquitous in the competitive Texas Hold 'em community, as adapted for smash. It is argued that players should take on the mindset of a tight, assertive player who mitigates their own risks while pressuring their opponent. Analyzing these player types provides marginal benefit as a way to form a pre-game plan against opponents. However, the main value is in diagnosing your own mental errors. Always remember that the overwhelming source of mistakes comes from errors in executing techniques in-game -- that is where the focus should be.

    I like that you put your own matches as example. You dare to do criticism on yourself. I have only watched 2 matches of you in tourneys is rare to find a match of you uploaded

    Nate, It's good to see you're posting videos again since I learned to play from scratch by watching your Advanced Techniques series. I think it'd be awesome if you posted more Mental videos, as it is really hard to evolve mid-game when I feel overwhelmed by an opponent, and also not to get frustrated. angry and unproductive upon defeat. I'd like to thank you on behalf of this community for what you've done for us so far, keep up the great work for there are people who find meaning and purpose in your guidance. This game ain't easy!

    Amazing stuff Nate. Im from Nuuk, Greenland. And we are really few who play this game in the era of Fortnite. I just got 6 top quality controllers from Denmark. Cant wait to play SSB with my 2 sons in the future.
    Who is the best character in your opinion? My fav is C. Falcon. But I know Pikachu is tricky. Have a nice day.
    Johannes.

      The best character at a competitive level is Pikachu, there's very little discussion about that. Captain Falcon is one of the strongest at a high-casual/low-competitive level once you learn basic combos. Very fun and rewarding. Glad to hear that you're planning on sharing this game with the next generation! Great to hear from you

    i didn't find a way to pm you so i'll leave my question here:
    i've been playing for a few months, i yaer maybe... i don't know. the point is that my joystick is too loose. i've been searching different options. buying just the gear, metal gear, gamecube joystick, redesigned joystick, just buying a new controller, but i don't know wich is the best option.

    • @NateLTomBombadil
      @NateLTomBombadil  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The general idea is to grab a fresh controller either at a gamestore with OG controller or online through ebay. You can also look for repair options like steelbowls (pretty rare) or fresh gears/sticks from kitshbent or eLmaN (www.shapeways.com/shops/el-man-s-n64-parts). There's also the alternate controller option like a Hori or Lodgenet. More information about that here: (docs.google.com/document/d/1kRWYpVXNA-f9kwAlRZAmkg0qxYc_FAm7EGWOP3hDubc/edit)

    Woooooooo! Serious Nate, you got a talent for teaching smash. If you decided public an official series, I'd basically pay any amount for it. Ever think of publishing or something? You need to get paid.

    • @NateLTomBombadil

      Thanks that's very nice of you to say. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "publishing" but I just do this as a hobby

    • @caseyanderson2345
      @caseyanderson2345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NateLTomBombadil By publishing, I mean that if you were able to dedicate more time to this hobby, I would pay for it. Whether it was a Patron, or you made an official Series of videos and packaged it into a downloadable bundle that people could purchase. Could do a Kickstarter. I pictured like a "DVD series" that is official, indexed, kind of like a curriculum for learning Smash & competitive gaming. Haha just tell be where I can put my $$
