That's true, but why would a girl her age kill her Mother?
We ALL know that as girls turn to puberty they want their Mothers close to them.
I don't know her but I pity her, her life is lost!
Maybe other things were NOT Checked on why she did that.
Maybe she is blaming her step father for possible her Mother leaving her biological father?
Was she abused and the Mother knew but said nothing?
      There MUST be something.
True, I don't buy this Mental thing, but, she is so young, think why she did that?
As usually children don't take well with Step Fathers, then trying to adjust is very important; they DO adjust to Step Mothers.
Haa, One thing; IF she Smoked Marijuana, where WAS the Mother?
      Why she didn't control her.
      Sad, Really sad!

Probably thought they’d get away with it. And there have been cases of people getting away with the crime - mainly white children but typically they are rich (affluenza kid) or had a prior mental health diagnosis that the defense was able to use to get a reduced sentence. While teens her age know right from wrong many do not understand long term consequences and think in short term or within the moment consequences.

Being charged as an adult as a minor is wild. What’s the point of having sentencing guidelines for minors/adults if they’re flimsy at best? Surely life in jail for a girl 10 years away from having her brain fully developed is a crime against humanity.
There needs to be some in between rule for cases that may justify sentencing as an adult. Like sentences that have more opportunities for parole with no possibility of life. With advances in tech she may live to 100 or older in prison, that’s just cruel.

I wish the media would do a better job of reporting on the background of cases like these. I have known so many childhood abuse survivors that I am ALWAYS suspicious of the parents. Very rare is the child who is a true psychopath and will kill their own parent because they are "evil." Much MUCH more common is an abused child who is lashing out in a distorted act of self-defense against a monster who masquerades as their mentor and guardian. Maybe this case really is one of the former types, where the kid was just rotten. But the media didn't do a good enough job reporting on the story for us to make any kind of informed judgment. So in lieu of good information, I think I'm on the kid's side in this one. Because that's what the statistics say. A kid who is violent against a parent usually has a lifetime of strong reasons to do it.
