- This is a significant REM show. During this month of May, the band signed with IRS Records and began their incredible rise to the top. For years I had a dub of a dub of a dub on cassette that had enough tape hiss to choke a mule. But now I've located a pristine copy of the radio broadcast that sounds like you're standing there. It kicks off with a missfire when Pete's guitar has a problem. They come right back with one of the finest early performances you will ever hear. The show took place on the Carter Inaugural Stage where live shows in the park were held back in the day. It was at the foot of the big hill, a perfect place for shows and one of the first things that the fascist Conservancy did after they took over the park was get rid of it and move all live performances to crappier locations. Piedmont Park through the 60's and 70's was known as the People's Park but that was sadly over by the 90's. Presented for historical and documentary purposes only. I'm amazed that I wasn't there. WTF was I doing that was more important than this? Thankfully, WRFG was there.
