    @Ohloveeh. As an ex Royal Marine myself I can assure you that no marines either in the bands or in the commando units are tin soldiers. They all serve in combat zones and the band personel train with firearms and are required to reach a high level of fitness. Also may I remind you that soldiers too are working class. So go and find yourself a subject you are qualified to comment on. If you can indeed find one.

    In answer to Windsorsoldiers, i presume the Scottish Regiment officer is on attachment / exchange with the Royal Marines. This is something that is done quite often, such as a USMC SNCO being attached to RM CTC Lympstone, or vice-versa.
    At last, a new breed of Royal Marines Drum Majors and the one in this video is superb and has the bearing and stature of what a RM Drum Major is all about. I saw him a couple of weeks ago parading at Wellington Barracks / Buckingham Palace and he was the epitome of a Royal Marines Drum Major with excellent personal drill and totally professional.

    Don't you imagine as a member of the Royal Marine Band you would be sick to death of playing "a life on the ocean wave?"

    • @supernutkin5122
      @supernutkin5122 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sick to death of even hearing "A Life On The Ocean Wave" and fed up with the RM Bands playing "Gibraltar" at each and every single occasion, even though Gibraltar is a great stirring March.

    • @mike04535
      @mike04535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@supernutkin5122 A Life On The Ocean Wave is the regimental march of the RM. It is always played when at a Civil Reception and a salute is given to Civic Representatives. It is played here as they enter the palace gates. When they Beat the Retreat on Horse Guards Parade they play it as they march past the Monarch's representatives where the salute is taken. At the end of the march up the Mall as they enter the Wellington Barracks it is played again. You hear it a lot because almost every YT video has them playing it.

    I'm not sure what Ohloveeh's problem is....but he/she/it must get over it. I don't live in the UK - I'm Canadian, but my background is the British Isles, and I'm proud to see great traditions like this one upheld....and still valued. Ohloveeh appears to be just a complainer with not much else to do. How sad!

    • @jamesholmes6506
      @jamesholmes6506 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gael Moore His problem is he's a little bit of an eejit. We should keep the monarchy and what's associated with it for the sake of convenience, because I can't see Britain being a republic any time soon, and you've got to admit, the Royal Marine Bands look absolutely magnificent.

      The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace is an every day event. Mostly the guard is comprised of members of the various Guards Regiments. From time to time other regiments will take over the duties at the palace, hence the Royal Marines performed those duties in June.

    Why do they play a Russian march??

    • @geoffreymowbray6789
      @geoffreymowbray6789 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lord Mountbatten was a cousin of the last Imperial Royal Russian family and when young was very attached to the Grand Duchess Maria. He keep a photo of her on his desk until his death. Through his family he had connection to the Preobrajensky Guard Regiment.
      Presented to the Royal Marines by Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 10th June 1964 (1964 was the 300th anniversary of the Royal Marines) and first performed as the Regimental Slow March of the Royal Marines on Horse Guards Parade that night. The march was composed by the Russian composer Donajowsky for the Russian Tzar's Preobrajensky Guard.

      Ohloveeh I don’t even know if you’re active on this account but,these men and women are also working class,hell they’ve worked harder than any Mcdonalds’ employee in existence,they march for hours without rest carry weights up to 40kg,50kg in some cases.Spend hours doing drill and worse get paid only as much as a mcdonalds’ employee does,even when they do more hours.The job also requires intelligence,many have to use both their brains and brawn compared to the average working class.In this case these guys and girls are top of the working class,they work diligently and do the best they can,even when sometimes they don’t even get paid as much as architects or a bus driver.You’re just jealous of their achievements and know you will never be as hardworking,resilient or great as these men and women are.
