I love flowerhorn. I started to love them when my parents surprised me a flowerhorn in my birthday 2 years ago. Unlike normal and fish in general, this fish is smart and we can do interactions with them (although at first they most likely to bite your fingers when you try to put your hand in the water). I did interactions daily to my flowerhorn and finally he never bite my fingers anymore. He loves when I gently rub his belly bellow and his hump head. He is like 'water dog' and I like him.
I keep mine in 40 breeders. I have a net with really tiny holes to pick up waste on a daily basis. I do agree, if you don't do obsessive maintenance, it should be at least 60 gallons.
Bought a flowerhorn a month ago, he’s in a 20, started to bite the pot in there and acting mad a lot, getting him a 65 gallon day after tomorrow, he’s only about 3.5 inches too which is crazy he already doesn’t like it in there, and yes everything is being done right in all the other areas of keeping him.
John Lane short body was a bad move they don’t live past 4 years and that’s if you get lucky. Get normal flower horns short bodies are just cruel and they should stop production of them
I’m very educated in flowerhorns, I bought a flower horn and put it in a 10. Knowing it is to small, I’m letting it grow max size in each tank, I plan on setting up a 20 gal in a week or 2. Since I’m a kid(12) I can’t just go buy a 75 gallon to keep my fish in, my parents would kill me. Since I put so much hard work in trying to get my parents to agree to a 20, it great to see that they can thrive in a 20. So, hopefully I can stay at that size until he gets older. My flower horn is named frank right now he is just becoming mature he is around 4 inches.
It is better to have 2 tanks with a 75 gallons for your main and 20 gallons for secondary. But I understand your concern. Just saying that a 20 gallons tank will not make your flowerhorn fully grown.
I did the small tank mistake. When I first got into the hobby I didn't know what I was getting into until I ended up buying a Oscar Cichlid. I bought her when she was only 2 inches in the pet store along with a pleco since I knew that they'd help a bit. I started with a 10 gallon. Only two to three months later oh lord she grew ALOT she was 6.5 Inches and I immediately knew I had to upgrade. Just to mention I was only 14 at the time. So I was bit absent minded about all of this. I bought a 29 Gallon at the store and immediately set it up! I was so scared she was going to die in that small tank. I didn't expect to get attached but I did after a month. She's still with me today along with the pleco! Its been 7 months and she was the first fish I ever bought. She was proper filtration I over filtrate due to the MASSIVE amount of waste they both produce I have 40 gallon filtration and 35 gallon air maker. She's about 8 inches today and I recently scaped it differently I didn't go with sand this time due to issues I've had in the past with sand. So it isn't as natural as I'd prefer. I also have a few convicts in a 15 gallon and I plan to set them up with my Oscar when I receive my 55 Gallon in about 2 weeks! I also currently have 5 bettas and 5 ghost shrimp and 3 Peacock Malawi cichlids! I'm currently 15 now :) I am glad I joined this hobby. I always wanted a flowerhorn but...I cant one due to their price and I also don't have the space :P I didn't want to cramp it so I decided to go with smaller cichlids plus their aggression makes it difficult! So I've only been in the hobby for 7 months and I guess I went with a difficult level of fish to start out. I love your videos since they give nice info and they're narrated by a person not a robotic text to speak. I've only lost 3 fish over my time which we're two bettas and one Peacock cichlid. All due to ich sadly :c I had to leave to go on vacation and things ended up badly sadly the auto feeder kinda broke and started dumping rapid amounts of food and it messed up the water condition. I hope you read this I kinda typed this absent mindedly again Lol.
Arune Gmd thanks for sharing your story, the hobby is full of ups and downs keep at it. It's so rewarding to keep these magnificent fish, learn about them and see them get to know us. Great comment!
Try getting in touch with pet shops in neighbourhood. They often sell babies at low rates. Risk would be if you buy 1 & in few months you would find out that ot's female. If you can buy 3-4 babies chances are 1-2 will turn out to be males. rest you can keep or give away to other friends with this hobby.
@@jimmyboy4110 bud i've owned over 20 oscars, a 75 gallon is good for one to reach full size and still have some space to move around. if you don't know what you're talking about just don't speak in the first place. personally i prefer to keep them in a 110 gallon minimum so they have 5 1/2 to 6ft of swim space. when they don't have enough space they release hormones that stunt their external growth but their insides continue to grow at a semi normal rate which kills them after a few years. again if you don't have the experience don't talk like you do.
I currently have a 2.5” fh in a 20g tank. I will move him to a 40 breeder once he hits 4-5”. Then he will be placed in a 75g once he is an adult. Grooming in a smaller tank when small promotes confidence and makes the fh feel safe. Move up in tank size according to size of fh.
My 8 inch flowerhorn thrives in his 20gallon long He will get a 40 but for now it works well He has been in a 75 but he lost his friendly personality Now In the 20 he greets me and follows me as I walk around the room

my golden base flowerhorn is around 7 inch and my female red devil is around 7 too and i keep them in a 58 gallon and they might mate and what do i do? i don't have space or money :/
4×2×2 125g tank is ideal in my opinion when full grown.sure when growing a small fish a small tank is ok but always look at longterm in advance and your fish will be happier.
Yes I agree with this. But, when people are decided to buy a juvenile/baby-sized flowerhorn, I wouldn't recommend to put in a large tank right away. In my experience, they usually become stressed and their bodies become long (not propotional). So I bought a smaller tank (around 40 gallons) to keep a juvenile/baby-sized flowerhorn until they grow to at least 10 cm up. This small tank now I use for quarantine/treatments for sick fish. My flowerhorn is in my main tank now. My main tank is 1 meter length x 40 cm width x 60 cm height with all 15 mm glass thickness. I think it's enough for him since he is bonsai flowerhorn type.
Question I pick up a 2 inch FH and put it in a 20gal long running two filters airstone and heater this little dude can eat we feed him or her 3 times a day the tank is bear bottom and everyday I suck up it's poop with a turkey baster this is temp tank until it grows a little more maybe a 125g or 75g would this be ok?
Question. I know your going to think Im nuts but I have a 45 Gallon tank lying around and I want to get a short body Thai flowerhorn so it doesnt suffer in a small tank. Thus the reason for a shortbody. I dont have the money to afford a large tank such as a 50 gallon or a 60..Sadly since I am only 15 and am not of legal age of having a job I got a free 80 gallon a long time ago though its occupied with fish the flowerhorn might kills since their all oscars and a catfish. So I dont know what to do there are some flowerhorn who dislike larger space and some who love the biggest space possible..and its my dream fish that ive wanted since I got into the hobby what should I do.. :c
No you aren't nuts I go through wanting to keep fish that I don't really have the space for all the time. A 45 gallon would be okay for a small Flowerhorn for a few years but not big enough for it's whole life. If you really want to get a baby Flowerhorn and only have a 45 gallon go for it.
Is my 4' cointype flowerhorn in a 35 gal reasonable? Its my first time having a flowerhorn. Im only 13 yrs old, please give me any easy tips, Thank you!
I kept a few Flowerhorns in a tall-ish 60 gallon tank and I feel like they always wanted to get away from the top of the water once they swam all the way to the top. So if I had to say I'd say no but not 100% on that.
Somehow, it is strange for me. My experience to keep flowerhorns they likes to live in a taller tank. They never hesitate to swim to top and their hump heads are bigger so easily.
True. I was keeping a female flowerhorn once. I've spent 2 months and she was just grew for 1 inch. Unlike males, I've spent time to raise them just 1 month or less mostly for 1 inch.
People on Internet are tank Nazis, of course bigger is better but not everyone can get the biggest tank possible, as we speak currently I’m running a 30 gallon for my flowerhorn and he is doing great!!! (On a side note) I don’t have decorations I don’t have a bunch of useless crap in the tank that takes up space, literally sand and a sponge filter all the way in the corner
I assume your flowerhorn was not big or maybe his/her mental wasn't good. A small flowerhorn generally doesn't aggresive so often and his/her mental is still on development. They can get 15-18 inches, I don't know what the guy who runs this channel is smoking but no 75 is not big enough for a fish that gets that large, they need space. A 150 or a wide 125 will work but they will be their happiest in 180 gallons.

yes the bigger the better but it's not all about the space. it's just about the water quality. 20 gallon is ok. at least you have a powerful filter. I've been in the fish keeping hobby for almost 30 years. I've seen no problem. your saying is just a myth.
About water quality I agree. Almost 90% their growth comes from water quality. But don't you think a fish like flowerhorn will like to live in a 20 gallons for a long term? Also, you did not mention what fish you've been kept for 30 years. For tetras, danios, guppies, goldfishes, blue rams, and other smaller fishes are good with that tank size. All depends on how many fish and fish type you will keep.
60 gallon is possible for 40x20x20 inches size of aquarium. This size can accommodate 69 gallons. So you have enough clearances of not fill the whole tank with water.
I'd beg to differ there is excitement in my voice when there needs to be but don't worry the reason while videos are a little slow is we are going through some big changes to create better videos for the subscribers :-)

Get my short body flowerhorn in a week. Seen one at a pet store few weeks ago been obsessed ever since and finely orderd one
John Lane you know short body Flowerhorns have notorius organ failure? Not kidding, they do not live as long as a normal FlowerHorn.
Also, short body cannot participate in flowerhorn contest. Except bonsai type, it has its own class.
John Lane short body was a bad move they don’t live past 4 years and that’s if you get lucky. Get normal flower horns short bodies are just cruel and they should stop production of them

I have a 44 gallon tank with one juvenile fh and 2 severums ( green) (red) 1 pleco 1 cory
That is the dumbest idea
Plecos get 2-3 feet and flower horns get around 1 Severus get 7 inches and Cory get 3 inches
Do the math
Line them up and 4 feet 10 inches
Longer then a 40 breeder
How about 48x12x16 (40gal long) width is 12

Todd Fisher that is when their raised with certain fish food and are kept in 300 gallon tank when their newborns and grow to their tank.
