Thank you very much for taking my request, and posting this video. It is exactly what I needed to hear just before heading out to Summer Camp. I will make sure to share it with others. I will also make a priority to participate on the monthly Round tables.
Hi Scouter Stan, I am an Eagle Scout, and a Service Member in the Army. I don't have any kids in Scouting, but I volunteer with a local troop. My paperwork has been submitted to be a registered Assistant Scoutmaster. My question for you is this... As an active duty service member, I will be moving around A LOT. How can I maintain an active role in scouting, regardless of where I am stationed.
That is a good question. I have been told that every military base around the world has a Scouting unit. This may not apply to temporary or restricted bases. I know several Scouters that started Scouting overseas on a military base (Germany & Korea). I hope this helps answer your question about staying involved as you move around the world in the military. Thank you so much for your military service and your service in Scouting. YIS⚜
@@ScouterStan thank you! I didn't realize there would be Scout units, even over seas. I really appreciate your response. Following up on that, I would like to participate in a woodbadge course. The Council I'm joining has a course this september, but I may have a change of station in less than a year. Would you recommend waiting to find a Woodbadge course until I'm in a more permanent location? Would it hinder my ability to complete my ticket if I were to move within that year?
From my own experience when I was a Troop Guide at Wood Badge one of my Owls moved out of state. They were able to complete their ticket and get beaded at their new location. I don't think it would be any different anywhere else. You can change parts of the ticket if you need to, because of location or position changes with approval. There are three parts to Wood Badge course. Classroom & Practical, and in the Field (ticket). Check out the videos on the new Wood Badge th-cam.com/video/3GFE3j9N2Jg/w-d-xo.html YIS⚜
I believe the pins you are referring to are the ones that come with rank patches. These are also known as “parent pins”. These small pins are attached to ribbons worn by scout parents who are extremely proud of their scout's accomplishments. Normally the parent pin is not worn by the scout and the scout wears the rank patch on their left pocket. The larger rank pins are intended for the campaign hat. If you look at the packaging you will see the words “hat pin” on them. Although I have seen scouts use the pen on different types of hats. I hope this answers your question. YIS⚜
When someone becomes a new ASM and completes their training, would the troop present the ASM and Trained patches to the new ASM or would they buy the patches themselves?
Well, the answer to that depends on the unit. Some units may assume that the trained patch is something the adult leader is responsible for and should take care of on their own. It would be my recommendation that the unit present the trained patch as any other achievement in Scouting. If the adult leader changes positions it is their responsibility to get the appropriate training. Unit Commissioners often run reports on the training levels of adult leadership. Primarily this is for Youth Protection Training which expires every two years. Some leaders may need to add Velcro to the back of their trained patch. YIS⚜
I did a video about Brotherhood last season th-cam.com/video/fuEIln3GkZs/w-d-xo.html In the obligation I need to keep my honor by upholding and preserving the traditions and cannot answer a lot of specific questions publicly. It is a lot like telling you what you're getting for Christmas or a birthday gift. It would spoil the surprise because the way it is presented is intended to catch you off guard and think about the concepts. Thank you so much for the suggestion but if you have specific questions that you think a video would work and not spoil the wonderment, let me know. YIB🔺
Thanks!
