I'm crazy about Daffodils too ... they are my very favorite flower and have been since I was just a young child. Moss Mountain Farm is nothing short of magical, and as a longtime fan of P. Allen Smith, I appreciate all that is shared. Blessings always.

I use a handful of Epsom Salt in 5 gallon bucket. I pull my Boston Fern out of urn and plunge into bucket for half and hour. Also add it around clematis in March
My roses especially love Epsom salts along with seaweed.

We mix epsom salt and blended egg shells together. Next we will try dried up/blended banana peels in there too.
Thank you Mr. Smith for the knowledge and skill that you have shared with us for so many years. I usually watch you on my local PBS station on Saturday mornings. As a young girl I use to follow my Dad around as he gardened. I loved riding along to the nurseries and truck farms to get soil and plants for his garden. He has been gone for many years now and I as a mature woman, thank him whenever I go into my garden for instilling this love of nature and gardening in me. No finer thing to leave behind. I think I have done the same for my granddaughter.

I use epsom salt on my roses early spring. They love it.
Great segment on epsom salts & onions. My onions didn’t last long. They started to rot. But my garlic has been fabulous all year long.

Maria, I live in South Tx too and we didn't as of yet had a good winter, I am not sure we are going to be able to happily garden this year because the bugs are multiplying and ready to devour and make this year miserable for us. Hopefully, this cold snap that is suppose to come Monday March the 4th through Thursday will at least knock the lil pest down in numbers. Lol. Anyway, hopefully happy gardening.

I always add Epsom salt when planting tomato plants. I too adore daffodils, I planted over two thousand bulbs years ago and love the growing display in the spring. I even found some in the woods at an old home place (only the chimney was left) and dug up a few for my garden. They are yellow, very full ruffle/double without the back row of petals. I've been filling eight new raised beds this spring with mushroom compost and old leaves. Happy gardening!

Getting antsy here in West Tn. waiting for a warm up. Planted daffodils Thanksgiving weekend and the stems are up but no blooms so far. I've read about using Epsom salts on roses and did not know that I can use it on so many other plants. Love your videos. They are informative and very entertaining.

Your gardens are amazing you have an eye for great detail and it really shows. I've been meaning to scatter some daffodils into my lawn...sigh...maybe next spring. I do have plenty of bulbs in containers the first year I just gave the critters a tasty treat.Thinking of adding some grape hyacinth in the lawn too thinking the that would work in clusters as well. This adds such interest to a boring lawn!

I see that you're not afraid to dig around in your garden beds quite a bit. What are your thoughts on the practice of not disturbing the soil to keep the biology like insects, good bacteria and fungus intact and healthy - the "no-dig method"?

Thank you for using lemons and limes in your arrangement, as you said Affordable, unlike some lifestyle personalities I could name who use things like a dozen artichokes, etc. in an arrangement, when was the last time one of these people priced a single artichoke?

Oh my gosh you have changed my life ..thank you so much. I hope you read this and do you have any advice i just became a home owner and new to gardening. There is an old garden bed that has weeds all in it but I think there is good soil down there. Do you have any advice on how to revive an old garden bed?

We are looking to probably buying a property that has a greenhouse on it. How do I go about cleaning it out to avoid problems before I start using it? It looks like it may have set unused for a while.
Winona Shearer I’d wash/scrub the entire greenhouse structure and glass down (top to bottom) using an bleach water solution and let thoroughly dry. If there is any exposed wood I’d apply a vegetable-based horticultural oil onto it. This is best done using a brush to ensure the oil reaches into any cracks to suffocate hiding pests. Good luck! Let me know how it turns out.

Just remember epsom salt is. NOT SALT. It's just called that, it's magnesium sulfate.. You can't substitute salt.

I live on a lake side and have a really salty, alkaline soil. I have heard not to use Epsom salt on our plants because of it. What are your thoughts?
Brianne Rounds generally it’s considered a neutral when it comes to pH so you should be fine fine. The greatest benefit for your plants comes from the magnesium.

Kristine P Yes! 😁 Epsom Salts is Magnesium sulfate. The magnesium should help enhance the color of your foliage by assisting chlorophyll production. The Sulfur may however lower the pH. So it could effect the color of some hydrangeas making the blue/pink varieties lean towards the blue side.
