Unfortunately I was unable to do my planned landscape photography mountain camping trip this weekend - so I was forced to visit my local coastline for some seascapes. After the storm had blown through there was still a bit of life left in the waves. And I took the opportunity to demonstrate some multiple exposure-blending seascape techniques, to capture the atmosphere of the seas along the rocky shores of the coast near Aberffraw, Anglesey.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilize the Olympus "pro capture" feature in your camera. It is an excellent method to capture the exact moment in a series of photos. Try it, you will like it! The episode was excellent. Now I have to find some rocks on our sandy beaches here in Florida.
Hi Tom - that's a really good point. And as it happens that's what I was doing. But I'm conscious that many of my viewers aren'y Olympus users so I decided just to call it a "fast burst mode". The capture of 14 "previous" frames and immense burst speed is really big help though, and part of the reason I had so much to sift through in post!!

Oldest trick in the book--tease the viewer by promising future content! Well done as always David. What a great way to pivot from a cancelled wild camp to a local tutorial shoot. You did a beautiful job explaining your techniques and the rationale for using them. I have been spending a fair bit of time on the bay here lately myself and I am constantly amazed at the "invisible" sea spray that accumulates on my lens/filter and clothes! I quite like the final square crop image posted here. I love that hourglass shape of the triangles in that shot. Really looking forward to the post processing video. One last compliment, there are a select few YT vloggers who edit videos to the perfect length--plenty of great content, never too long, and always leave the viewer wanting more. Not sure if it is a goal of yours, but you have certainly mastered that technique. Cheers, Jeff

Sorry David , maybe should've explained myself better . Bikes were my 1st love & why I got into photography. I've developed a passion for seascapes ...so your vlog combines the evocative noise that stirs my memories with my current passion . I doubt it was intentional but I thank you anyway 👍 Your knowledge of the area shines through allowing you to capture some wonderful images as always 😊👍

Hi Lynne, it was about as loud as I've ever heard the bikes there; the wind was coming straight across the track and they were having a series of sprint races! Luckily I was able to mostly wait between takes and I was worried it would be a bit too intrusive. They can rather disturb the peace there - I've heard many a tripper moaning about them. But of course there is another 170 or so miles of coast round here without a track next door! :)
Still got some great shots David. Love to see how you deal with the multiple exposures.
Thanks a lot Michael. If I'm honest I'd class it as a practice session, but of course, any trip out with a camera is a good one!! Hopefully I'll have the post processing video sorted out and published later in the week :)

Always looking to improve my PP David, I have a real weakness in blending layers layers in photoshop, even starting with how to move them from LR, a bit confused of the best way, smart object or layers?? Then the best way to save from PS, there may be tons of vlogs out there but your calm and positive manor would really help my own personal development, I love the way you talk through your compositions on location, sharing what you don't like and do like within the scene, great work and always love tuning in, your full of golden nugget info producing gorgeous images worthy of print :-)

Nice video, seascapes aren't something I shoot much but useful advice none the less. And given the light, some nice photos too. Although I thought the vignette slider was getting a bit of a heavy workout!

Cracking video David. I'm with you as I also prefer the post wave strike "run off" type of image. Have you thought of wearing contact lenses, I do and don't have to keep wiping my glasses as well as the filters & lenses! It would be really interesting to see your post process blending of the images too please.
Hi Mark, I wore them for 30 odd years. But about 5 years ago went back to glasses because even with them in and 20-20 distance vision I was starting to have to muck about with reading / computer glasses! So I figured if I had to use glasses anyway might as well dump the lenses. On the plus side, I'm so short sighted I can focus really close up so when I peer at my camera without specs, I can see really clearly what's on the screen!

I would love to see the post. I've stumbled through it in Photoshop a few times but results were not great. I too am trying to blend water albeit whitewater in a river rather than ocean.

I see you use the Olympus camera . Can you tell me what filter system you’re using. Keep up the great work.
Hi Steve, many thanks for watching, much appreciated. I've been using the Cokin 85mm 'P' series holder and a mix of Cokin Nuances glass filters - 10 stop & 0.9 soft-grad and few other densities in cheap resin filters. Although I've just swapped out the holder for a better Formatt-Hitech Firecrest 85mm with CPL and a 6-stop ND and another 0.9 medium grad. So I've ditched the resin. Altogether not a cheap option, but buying glass gradually has spread the £500 or so cost over 6 months. The resins were OK, but in certain circumstances did create issues with image ghosting at wide angles sometimes. So I guess that's what you get for spending on £30 on three filters!! Hope this is helpful. 😊👍

Very interesting technically - the only thing that "bothers" me is the idea of having 800 shots !!! Surely you are more than good enough to get the shot you want from 3 or 4 shots. Seems to me that cameras like the one you are now using just takes all the control, so you are then left with just a sifting role - getting from 800 to a final image seems a whole lot of wasted time really, you could be out and about wild camping instead :) I too live on Anglesey, and I just love getting out whatever the weather BUT my aim before I go is to take maybe 10 shots on a "normal" DSLR as a maximum - I guess thats why I will always be an amateur. Lovely to see my backyard tho, including coves I have not yet visited.
Well I sort of agree with you, and I plucked the figure of 800 out of the air, in the end it was probably only about 200 or 300. Nevertheless, it’s very much about having enough to work with and in pro capture mode the camera catches up to 60 frames a second, so even a few clicks of the shutter button will fire off a lot of shot. But it’s really not that difficult in post because each batch of shots can be stacked and when you find a batch which may have something interesting there the only ones you need to look at so it’s really easy to discard frames very quickly. To be honest, if that wasn’t the case I wouldn’t do it either!! 😊👍🏻
@@DGriffGallery lol "ONLY 200-300 lol - you have a fine sense of humour :) - My eyes would not allow me to look at 200-300 on a screen - 15 is more than enough for me.
