  • In this webinar, learn how to select an inductor according to the system requirements in a practical example using an MPS DC/DC buck converter. This discussion will cover the selection process and balancing the priorities of cost, size, and performance.
The following topics will be covered in this webinar:
    -Magnetics Basics
-How to Calculate the L-Value (Inductance)
-Items to Consider when Selecting an Inductor
    -DC/DC Buck Converter Example

Hi... It was an excellent webinar. In the final efficiency comparison slide (before Q&A), I could see that the part selected has lesser saturation current than Idc. Can you explain how that's possible logically ?? (So far, I've seen inductors with Saturation current greater than rated current)

IDC and ISAT are different currents.
IDC is related to the self-heating effect caused by the heat dissipation of the inductor windings. Rated current is related to the cooper loss. In case of the MPL-AL series, due the flat wire construction it will have even lower resistance, so the rated current will be higher.
ISAT is the change of Inductance value at certain percentage of current (in this case 30% inductance drop). Saturation current is related to the core loss which is depends from the the core material, temperature, frequency, current, pressure.
