This is so heartwarming to see so many people keeping their culture alive and vibrant. France and UK centralized states were/are terrible with our traditional celtic cultures but here we are, reeling in the Scottish country, piping at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient.
Technically, Scotland is part of the UK. It might have more to do with identity and imperialism. Perhaps with Brexit the English will start dancing the Playford dances and take up Morris Dancing in droves! I personally adore Scottish Country Dancing, though I'm mostly Anglo Saxon!
(Embarrassed) HA! My maternal grandmother was 1st generation american from Scotland on her father’s side; Austrian and Swiss on her mother’s side. She couldn’t tolerate bagpipe music, and i don’t think she ever learned to reel. My mother tolerates bagpipe music, and i don’t think she ever learned to reel; although she did have a skirt with our tartan custom-made (no longer fits, gave it to me, I’ve had no reason to wear it yet), and we both have kilt pins with our “clan crest”. My older sister LOVES bagpipe music, and i don’t think she has ever learned to reel. I’m female, as my mother, i tolerate bagpipe music, and I’ve never learned to reel.
incredible, that is one of the most difficult scottish reels, and need hours/days of practise, its really complex. And this was one of the best i have ever seen, if not the best! Scott from Inverness
