I know this is an old posting but so nice to see some love for this scent. My brother's girlfriend brought this for me as a gift from Paris (she is French) when she came to visit in the 80's. I bought many bottles through the years; it was my signature scent for quite a while. I still have a little left of the original formulation, I use it sparingly. Thanks for the great review!
Amazing review sir. Love it as always! I got this one last month and the moment I sprayed it a couple times, my dad came to my room and said what had I applied as he could be smell it in the other room. He loved the fragrance, so I gifted it to him. I have ordered another one for me now.
I bought my first bottle of this amazing fragrance back in 1990 in Saudi Arabia. This Arabian guy walked by me in a shop and I had to ask him what are you wearing? He took me over to the cologne section of the store and picked up this bottle with black top and bottom. I've been hooked every since.
I got this old formula today and I'm loving it. It brings me back to the early 90’s. I was a bit scared to buy a new formula due to the negative feed backs compared to the OG at fragrantica. I was lucky that I found almost unused bottle for $70. As you said it’s not a performance beast but decent. I’m guessing I will juice myself every morning with a good amount of the cologne.
I read somewhere that they reformulated it and ruined it but they reformulated it again in 2013 and made it pretty much identical to the original. I love it.
In 1995 I had picked this scent for the husband I hadn't met yet vowing that when I do - he'll be wearing it so I can smell it all time, lol. Well, I did find the love of my life that following year and he's been wearing it now for 25 years. Sadly, the new formulation doesn't last as long and went up in price! In fact - I have to get real close to him to get a good sniff (he doesn't complain ;) ) whereas before I could smell him in the other room. Now, here I am on TH-cam trying to find a good replacement that lasts longer and worth the price. Per your recommendation I will check out the Dior and YSL suggestions. Thanks for your help!
I bought the new version and I think it smells really good. A very classy masculine old school vintage smell! It's a bit woody and lemony. Very nice combo. It really reminds me my childhood with the old school business men of the 80s who had this type of smell. Very complex smell, and nothing similar with the other Armani smells.
Pure class in a bottle . The reform smells good but it doesn’t last like the vintage . My friend used to wear this in high school and it was a powerhouse
2020.09 batch Wow! Just wow! This is what I call a perfect spring/summer fragrance! Pure elegance, pure Italian style. Great longevity, still a skin scent after 12h if you stick the nose on your skin. Not to much projection but is lingering around you even after 5h. Dressed up with a white shirt and a linen jacket, this make you feel like a billionaire.
excellent review, spot on.i also agree on the eau sauvage comparison...how i wish i had a vintage bottle of either one :( the new formulation of this one doesnt last more than an hour , for the price i cant say its a great deal and the drydown doesnt wow me much, on the new one ofcourse.very manly, the best part of this is the opening, that citrus is so lovely but doesnt last :( thank you so much for yet another class act :) cheers
Your videos are brilliant! Always enjoy the reviews, relevant with current fragrances as well as shining a light on the more obscure and lesser known gems (and the funny intros always crack me up). I appreciate the “mature young men” photo and similar photos of Britain at its finest haha. Keep up the great work 👍
Have the new bottle. It's still great. Great projection. Good longevity. The old bottle was my first purchase with my own money, on the flight to America after graduating from high school. I loved it at first sniff. Still do.
Absolutely loved this in the 90s. Recently got a 13ml of the perfume parlour version(which I think is based on the origjnal). Would live to know views on the new version
Thanks for a great review of a timeless classic Dan. I've just checked Jeremy Fragrance and Monia Cioch's TH-cam channels and experienced a distinct sense of deja vu. They seem to be trapped in the same time loop, endlessly reviewing and promoting the same few fragrances i.e. Dior Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel, Acqua di Gio Profumo and La Nuit De L'Homme ad nauseam. Armani Eau Pour Homme is a beautiful citrus scent that is perfect for hot summer days. It's as timeless and elegant as a smart Italian suit and clean white shirt.
I've used this one for 8 years now. I'm tired of it, but it's a great fragrance. I've never met anyone that didn't like it. But you won't really get compliments for it, if that's what you're looking for.
It's a classy Italian-style fragrance that I enjoy, but I get very poor longevity with it, which frustrates me. If I'm not mistaken, the black cap/bottom version was made until 2010 or so. Those later versions were produced by Luxury Products, the same company responsible for ruining the current Polo green. The original formulation of this fragrance is very, very rare. I'm still searching.
This was my first proper fragrance when I Was about 16 (actually the first fragrance I had was cheap Insignia, remember that lol) I remember Armani being very fresh with the dominant note being lemon.
I have both old and new bottle of this one. (I bought it just because I heard it was one of Freddie Mercury's favorites, lol). I honestly can hardly tell them apart. But then again, my "old" bottle is just an old design, not a vintage from the 80s or 90s. I think that new (2013) version is slightly fresher and lemony though. Performance is the same. I should probably hunt for a real vintage, while there's still a chance. Your review is spot on, thanks!
I'm sitting here with the black and "new" silver bottle. There is a very significant difference in the smell. While they do have a similar tang, the difference is noticeable, and enough to say they are not the same smell. The new is still good, I like it, but I prefer the black version. Smells "classic", and more masculine. The new is sweeter.
Odds are the oakmoss would have changed! 8.5 is a sound performance score! I've been contemplating getting this for nearly 20 years now so maybe it's nearly time? Good review and a bang up open!
Have about 10 mil of this from an eighties bottle. One of my 1st frag purchases.Bought it so many times over.Havent got my nose on the newer one.Great frag with that lemon note.
Love your videos! I see you also like AdP Essenza and scents such as old school Eau. I was wondering if you can recommend anything in the vein of Essenza? Classy, bright and masculine? Thanks!
I had the original in the early 90s and I've got the recent one now and it smells exactly the same to me but it actually performs better now on my skin to what the original did in my early 20s it's a fantastic fragrance
Nice! Another one I need to check out. Lol at the compliment clip/joke! But actually most of my unsolicited compliments (not many) have been from the classics (Antaeus Chanel -surprisingly-, and Pour Monsieur 1955 Chanel).
You are worth watching!! Even if someone isn’t into fragrance at all! Like your kind of humor! Greetings and my respect on your opinion from a German fan an subskribier! Regards Boris
Its a sleeper vintage fragrance. One of the first fragrances I was checking for in 86. Nice alternative citrus frag for today. If you can get a fresh pre bar code bottle I highly recommend it!
hi there Mr smelly, a beautifully presented in depth video, would i find this fragrance in one of the bigger boots branches? as I would like to get my nose on this one. Thanks
I had the original back in 1985...citrusy soapy with a earthy base..lasted forever. I probably won't buy the reformulation because...well...things change and you can't go back.

Me too! I had a friend introduce me to it in 1994...and loved it ever since. Unfortunately, it is getting hard to find now.
Same here I have been using it for over 15 years … it seems that it was discontinued

It is much more unique then rest of Armani and her sophisticated imo
my dad still wear it, its a masterpiece
I love, love, love Armani Eau Pour Homme. Takes me back to High School. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Pure class in a bottle . The reform smells good but it doesn’t last like the vintage . My friend used to wear this in high school and it was a powerhouse
I haven’t tried the old formula, but I recently bought a new formula and I must say I LOVE it. Thank you for the review.
They are very close .not much difference, i own both and the drydown is better with the old one.but its fine
the 70-80s stuff is just always more in depth and has a legacy, and was bold. More class overall.
I agree. There was less choice back then but arguably more quality.
2020.09 batch

You are too kind Rich Bich!

Thanks Tal. Great first purchase
Good stuff, keep the classics coming! One of my fav 80s citruses. Class in a bottle👌🏻

Thanks OG. ou should definitely check it out again!

You’re the best bro. Do a review on the new Eau Sauvage parfum 2017. It’s similar to the 2012 version ...just a bit fresher. Amazing stuff
I want to screw this bottle into a light bulb socket. The cap reminds me of the bit of a lightbulb you screw into the socket. Haha.
KentB27 lol. Ditto

If you had to pick one of the reformulations, would you take Armani Eau Pour Homme or Dior Eau Sauvage?

Thanks Brandon! Nice to know those two classics can get compliments.
What's the next similiar (today buyable) cologne?
You are worth watching!! Even if someone isn’t into fragrance at all! Like your kind of humor! Greetings and my respect on your opinion from a German fan an subskribier! Regards Boris
Has a barber shop slight talcy and understated smell. Feels fresh after haircut and shave. Nice smell for daily.
I tried the new one and it was not the same; nothing beats the original!
The new formulation is just as good..sprayed it on my scarf and two weeks later it was still there..
i had this with the black bottom but it doesnt last or project at all. but smells quite nice
Very nice fragrance I don’t know why Armani discontinued it
Had it, love it , one of my fav. Just got Capp after your rec , a little similar. Cheers.
Thanks dspada67. Glad you like Capucci. Defo similar.
Its a sleeper vintage fragrance. One of the first fragrances I was checking for in 86. Nice alternative citrus frag for today. If you can get a fresh pre bar code bottle I highly recommend it!
Rob DJ Ville you might like 1881 and Eau Savauge Extreme they encompass the spring herbaceous old school vibe scent
This scent used to stay on my clothes for days!
My 2 favorite cologne classic Armani & eternity for men

hi there Mr smelly, a beautifully presented in depth video, would i find this fragrance in one of the bigger boots branches? as I would like to get my nose on this one. Thanks
Thank David. Yes some bigger Boots branches have it.
MrSmelly1977 thank you for your super fast response, i really do appreciate it
I think it is a wonderful fragrance. I am definitely getting this one.
I think moschino uomo is similar but this is far stronger. I remember buying this on a holiday in tenerife in 1999!
Awesome vid mate! Really makes me want to find a vintage of this. Thanks.
Thanks Zoopy. They do come upon eBay now and then.
What’s a “10” that’s the closest to it? 🙂
For which season?
I have to put 1881 and Eau Savauge Extreme in the same fresh spring herbaceous vibe
The new formulation smells exactly like old spice (original) deo.
Nice fragrance...I used to borrow this from my father when I was a kid in the 80s
Nice! You are lucky. I borrowed my Dad's Givencht Gentleman which more polarising!
Great review...i have the eau de aramones and nuit oud and cedre...exellent quality fragrances.
I wore this and armani diamonds years ago.
I had the original back in 1985...citrusy soapy with a earthy base..lasted forever. I probably won't buy the reformulation because...well...things change and you can't go back.
I LOVE this stuff. Classic fragrance
This is my first purchase of 2021. $99 with free shipping at Walmart.com in USA.
