What if a score is repeated, what rank would then be given? Also in Ignou book it is mentioned to give the lowest score as rank 1, here the highest score is ranked 1. Please clarify. Thanks.

Lowest to highest or highest to lowest, both will do...

If the ranks are tied, the average of the tied ranks are given..
Eg: the scores are equal for 3rd and 4th rank, then 3.5 is the rank for each score. And next ranking starts from 5.
If scores are equal for 5,6&7, then 6 is given for all three scores. And next ranking starts from 8.
