My husband is a carpenter and he had some purple heart wood, and made a wand for me. He also made a box from it for me to keep my tarot/oracle cards in. It’s from South American forests, and is supposed to have spiritual qualities. Beautiful wood & work!
My first wand/walking stick is a branch from an old apple tree. (From an old orchard located on a mountain in Arizona, back in the 1970s) Such a comforting old friend. Have a 'house wand' from a pear tree I once had. Another dear old friend. A branch of unknown parentage came swimming towards me in a fast running river in the Appalachians. Looked like a big snake. When trying to leave my way was blocked by real water snake! I asked for passage, went home and drew a snake spiraling up it. (Of course) Staffs and walking sticks have a special appeal to me. They just feel so natural to hold. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with folks. Blessings to you.
Ginny I would love to hear more about your family history of witches. I have never practiced, but I have always wanted to. I’m a closet witch, I guess. Witches in my family go back to the 1600’s.
I use an Mountain Ash, Rowen. It's just so balanced! My bestie! Top tip if you're not sure about trees, get a plant finder app on your phone. You can then scan the tree/ plant & find out its name. Some even tell you if plants are edible or can be used in herbology. Great activity for kids too! Blessings!
Hahah loved the David Attenborough throw-in! Great video and super interesting. As a kitchen witch my wands are wooden cooking spoons decorated with sigils that I have wood-burned in 😆 lovely scenery as well - would love to go there one day to film a video
Ooh, Bex and Ginny together, how delightful, both with amazing and different wands from what we are 'traditionally' (?modern/'media' traditional?) told is a wand. xx
You look and feel like a good witch. Someone who is fun to be around and fierce protector of your friends and family. I made a wand of poplar and it has a core of thin singing Quartz and Rhodizite. It is tipped by small faceted clear quartz half hemisphere and the rear is a Citrine. The handle is wrapped in leather and all materials are organic. It does emit an energy at its tip that can be felt. I also make energy wands on a Selenite base with Christal's picked to the energy of the user. I do have one made of a long shard of Blue Kyanite. My favorite is a natural Lemurian Christal wand.
6:10 my favorite part of the entire video. I love how you acknowledge that this tree "has been looking at this for centuries" not many people recognize that. Myself included. You gave me a new perspective. Ty Thoughts on single terminated clear crystal quartz as a wand?
Love the crystal as a wand - my everyday wand is a lump of goldstone - which is a man made crystal- but has a surprising amount of energy connections going on it it.

I'm not one for witchcraft, but I do love crafting and have a strong belief in the spiritual and supernatural elements of life. Maybe I'll start walking around and look for some wood that speaks to me in some way and craft a wand out of it. I wouldn't have much practical use for it, but I could say I made my own wand out of a piece of nature that spoke to me.
You've made me realize I have more wands than I thought I did. I still have a fire poker that I have an emotional connection too, I got it as a kid/preteen and my imagination made it double as a staff/wand. Now as an adult that practices, I realize that thing has more power in it due to my connection and love for it, than the wand I made 4 months ago😂 Hmm, the things we learn along the way
Fancy having Sir David as a sponsor! 😄 lovely perspective on how to choose a wand. I'd like a staff and a smaller wand I think. I don't know how I'd choose, I love trees 🌲🌳🌴💖
I am hoping to make my first wand from a willow tree. The willow is very meaningful to me; it's my favorite tree, the symbolism resonates with me, and my birthday is May 12th! (Last day of the Willow on the Tree Calendar) I have one in my yard but I'm worried about damaging it, hopefully, I can find a good-sized branch soon or one will fall.
I'm really enjoying all of the videos you have been making :) Could I please get your advice? I sent out the intention that I want to create my wand. My husband had to cut down some branches of a tree at his childhood home in order to fix the roof of his parents shed, he didn't ask as it didn't cross his mind as he doesn't think as I do. When the branches were being collected for the green bin I felt a strong 'Hey, that's your wand!' So I stopped, picked up the one I felt drawn to and saved it, took the little twigs off etc, and took it home to dry out. It's a hawthorn tree that watched my husband grow up from a baby, I wasn't able to hug it to connect with it as its trunk is on the other side of the fence but I touched its braches that I could reach, asked if it was ok with me using it and told it my intentions for the wand. Before I spoke with the tree I felt 'it is a gift' (not clairaudience, I kind of feel the words) When I read up on it cutting branches without permission is a big no-no when it comes to wand making, and there's also information about angering the fae realm. I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this
That area where you went for the hawthorn is just amazing! That site hasn’t been featured on Time Team by chance, has it? Twenty years later, I’m finally getting caught up, ha!

I think to have both kinds of wands would be nice. That way you have one like this you have made for things outside and such and then like the rose quartz crystal one o have for inside for things or workings in side. So maybe it might be nice to have both. And there for you don't have to worry about breaking your crystal wand.💁😉🙂
I was wondering, would the wand have to be out of wood necessarily could it be made out of something like cinnamon. Sticks and wires. In the area I live it's not very in the open the tress here are planted on the blocks and they're all the same from what I've seen. The only other place would be the park.
You can use anything that connects with you, so if you like the feel of a cinnamon stick use that. I use generally a piece of man made goldstone (not even wood) but it just resonates with me.
Whats your opinion on deciduous vs coniferous tress? I feel rather drawn and connected with all sorts of coniferous trees such as pine, fir or cedar. Are they a good (enough) option for choosing a wand? Are they common und useable for witchcraft?
The best tree/crystal is the one that feel most drawn to - think of success in your head and then think what tree you associate with that success and voila!
Yes you can use any wood.I have about 60 wands. Each day of the week has associations such as a color a crystal a tree ect.I combine all these things together.I will match the crystal to the wood and any symbols on the wand will be in the appropriate color.I will before long make a video on this.If you want to know more please ask🤗👍
Up to scratch? What does that mean? I'm novice at the craft of witches and I was gifted a rather beautiful crystal wand no taller than a regular pen or butter knife. From my friend and now teacher a solitary kitchen/nature Witch.
Should the wand be cleaned in any way to keep it sanitary and/or bug-free if we find it in the wild? I selected a decent one dropped by the crait myrtle (crepe myrtle?) in my front yard, but I don't want to be startled by ants, etc. in the middle of using it. (I'm in the American South. The list of tiny critters that inhabit our property are many and vast.) The only other viable trees are one very large and dangerous, mostly-dead pine tree that looks like it hates us, and four sticker-trees that aren't great, woodwise. (They mostly drop giant sticker ball seeds.)
As some what of a Wizard, if I say so myself, my wand has been with me every single day of my life. It's 8 1/2", vainy, extremely hard, and a woman would consider it rather enjoyable.

I feel rather drawn and connected with all sorts of coniferous trees such as pine, fir or cedar.

Should you need to ask for permission, will it just be a feeling? Or what?
If in doubt ask- it is only polite

Is it OK to coat your own wand with polyurethane?
also do you know what the most powerful crystal is to put on your wand
That depends on you @austin bycraft different crystals resonate with different people. Go to a crystal shop and see which one you are drawn to...
I would title this video how to pick up a stick from the ground a tie a red ribbon around it. Joking aside... quite informative.
Does a wand have to be wooden? Could one make a wand with say resin? With things like dried flowers, crystals and horse hair encased inside?
oh yes - the resin is not particularly a good conductor or magick, but the flowers etc will be.
