This is one of the more comedically entertaining versions I've seen. Most singers are very generic with it in a way that looks like they think they're being original, but Heidi really makes it unique. Love it.
honestly the mood and the tone that she set with this version is so unlike the films you can't even compare them side by side. she has a beautiful and hilarious cover that is very playful and teasing, while Ursula sounds more like she's trying to sound like the deal isn't really important to her when you can actually hear the desperation in her voice. I really can't decide witch one I like more, seriously they're both like totally different songs!!!!!
Caroline Fletcher i actually got to meet her recently and she was so sweet and hilarious and swears SO much you would not believe it! she is really awesome and i wish you good luck in meeting her!
I love this song because it’s 50% singing and 50% performance. Each singer can make it their own and have their own take on it. All they have to do is have fun, dial the sass up to 300%, and let her rip!
My personal favorite version of “Poor Unfortunate Souls” will always be Pat Carroll’s rendition of the song from the original 1989 animated film because I’m a sucker for the original versions of most songs, in general, and I just prefer how Pat’s voice has an obviously evil, cunning, and sinister tone to it when she sings it. It makes the song sound much creepier. However, I really like Heidi Blickenstaff’s version of “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” too. She makes a much more comical, upbeat, and youthful sounding Ursula.
Well sort of I knew her from the original run of Freaky Friday where I saw it live and I knew she played ursula before it just never came to watch it until the disney channel boot for Freaky Friday happened
omg i had no idea she did this or freaky friday! i'm here as a long time fan of [title of show]! she's got such a great and unique voice. she reminds me a bit of amy sedaris.
Anybody else reminded of the Phantom of the Opera when she belts “make your choice!”? It reminds me of near the end of POTO when the Phantom is telling (yelling at) Christine to make her choice…
I admit that in the past I've been a nasty They weren't kidding when they called me, well, a witch But you'll find that nowadays I've mended all my ways Repented, seen the light, and made a switch True? Yes And I fortunately know a little magic It's a talent that I always have possessed And here lately, please don't laugh I use it on behalf Of the miserable, lonely, and depressed pathetic Poor unfortunate souls In pain, in need This one longing to be thinner That one wants to get the girl And do I help them? Yes, indeed Those poor unfortunate souls So sad, so true They come flocking to my cauldron Crying, "Spells, Ursula, please!" And I help them! Yes I do Now it's happened once or twice Someone couldn't pay the price And I'm afraid I had to rake 'em 'cross the coals Yes I've had the odd complaint But on the whole I've been a saint To those poor unfortunate souls The men up there don't like a lot of blabber They think a girl who gossips is a bore! Yes on land it's much preferred for ladies not to say a word And after all dear, what is idle prattle for? Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation True gentlemen avoid it when they can But they dote and swoon and fawn On a lady who's withdrawn It's she who holds her tongue who get's a man Come on you poor unfortunate soul Go ahead! Make your choice ! I'm a very busy woman and I haven't got all day It won't cost much Just your voice! You poor unfortunate soul It's sad but true If you want to cross the bridge, my sweet You've got the pay the toll Take a gulp and take a breath And go ahead and sign the scroll Flotsam, Jetsam, now I've got her, boys The boss is on a roll This poor unfortunate soul
She's spectacular. Great talent and stage presence.

My mom did theatre with her, along with Audra McDonald when she was younger. I hope to meet her one day, being a fellow theatre person :)
