I live in the USA but visit Philippines twice a year. My heart belongs to a small Baptist church there. I met my girlfriend there and I am adopting the pastor's niece. My life is being transformed. I hope to build houses for poor families and feed children there to my last years.

I started watching those same vloggers you mentioned. I'm married to a Filipina from Iloilo. We have house there, but I haven't been back there for several yrs. My wife came here to US. I'm retired but she is working. I'm blown away how fast your vlog is growing. Keep up the good work. Your style works for you.

I'm an American Retiree from VEGA$, been there many times and I could say very few Thai people can speak basic english to expats w/in the city and not the whole country... I prefer the PHILIPPINES w/ 7,641 Tropical Paradise Islands doing Island Hopping to explore and experience the adventure of a lifetime. Just sold my properties and currently preparing my moving to the island country by the end of the year to retire for good !!!

Correct, and paul isn't rich why he is sticking his butt in the Philippines.
What bothers me is, Paul professes his Christian faith while in Thailand, but when he left for the Philippines his first thoughts were visiting sex tourist places.
Obviously, he likes Thailand more but his budget is keeping him off the place.
      And that's the truth.

I like Thai food. I also like Filipino too. I learned to make leche flan and adabong manok. I also like to make pansit every so often. Pad Thai is a favorite dish of mine. When i was working in china pad thai is a dish i made a lot as all i need is a skillet. I have been learning Cambodian food. I really like Amok and Tom Yum. I make homemade tomyum soup with seafood stock i make myself. I really like Prohok.

I must be the only non-Filipino in the world who actually prefers Filipino food over Thai food. Something wonderful happens when you mix vinegar and soy sauce. A plate of rice and some meat is all you need. I don't like peanuts in my food man. Lol!
I've been to a lot of the countries over there. Thailand was the most fun and would be a great occasional vacation, but the Philippines would make the best home. Vietnam is communist, Indonesia is Muslim, Thailand would be harder to find English and it would be impossible to read their writing, India I've heard is pretty racist against non-Indians and seeing cows standing around everywhere was kinda strange. The Philippines is Christian and Catholic and everyone at least understands English. The Philippines has a good relationship for the most part with the United States. Sounds like a winner to me.

I first went to Thailand to check it out for possible retirement. There were English speaking Thai's there but I couldn't understand their accents. Then there was driving on the left side of the road, that turned me off. As soon as I got home I started researching the Philippines, I visited there and that was it for me. There are some inconveniences there but like you it is about the people, Thank you for another informative video...

spot on.....you see it as soon as you get off the plane......30 attendants on the jetway saying Welcome to the Philippines, Good morning, etc. People smile and are friendly and you feel that. It isn't the plastic banana variety because they have to take your order or are thanking you for your business. They are friendly just because they care about you who they just made eye contact with 3 seconds ago. That doesn't exist anywhere else I have ever been, certainly not in the states where people more often than not, look away. I have been going to the PI since 2009 and miss it the moment I leave every time. Now it is my future home.....just gotta work a few more years to get there.

Hello.. I was inspired to watch your videos about my country.. I am from Colorado USA.. and made me to liking to watch all your videos and learning a lot from my country... I was in USA for 20 years and have a friend from Thailand and yes they hardly can speak English and it's true they are friendly but after a month's or so..they were so different as their culture perspective.. the Philippines was more on speaking English whenever you go and rich in good culture versus Thailand.. With all your videos I'm learning a lot and informative.. I'm impressed about your opinions and knowledge about Philippines. I would say, all your videos were pure and true saying about my county, the Philippines was better place to retire.. Thank you so much for all your videos and love to watch it.. I feel proud and blessed to have a person like you that stay and love my country.. Philippines.. Mabuhay!

Being in a relationship with a Filipina, I was open to the idea of moving to the Philippines even though my life in Australia, owning a house and living near a beautiful white beach is very satisfying. So basically my trips to the Philippines to visit my fiance always included side trips looking for a place I could settle and enjoy life. After touring around and watching a lot of youtubers I realised that one necessary criteria was being close enough to a reasonable size of expat community with good health care and hospital facilities. I think I found what I need in both Dumaguete and Olongapo City because I couldn't live long term in high rise. But now that I'm married and my wife is living with me in Australia waiting for a residents visa, I think our life might revolve around 8 months in Australia and 4 winter months in Philippines

    • @michaeldemarillac9992

@Evert Evert true if you intend to live overseas you need to sell your house provided it is worth the threshold amount specified by the ATO or higher, in Australia (cheap houses don't need to be sold), to avoid this occurence. If you sell it within six months of departure, you can still realise the capital gains and keep the savings. It is an asshole move by the government seeking to claw back money for no effort. It is an ill-considered move that will come back to bite them. They will keep people in Australia that will now become a burden on the health system, housing system etc., and they will end up spending more on them than they would if expats where unencumbered about moving overseas. The housing market will weaken and the banks will go crying to the govewrnment for a bail out. I would spend six months in Australia on my inexpensive sailboat living an adventurous life in some of the most beautiful waters in the world and the other six months swapping between Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, Cambodia and Malaysia as I am inspired. I have made more from the stockmarket and my A2 milk shares than I ever made from housing anyway. My approach will avoid the flat tax rate for non-residents and you can take your girl with you, start a sexy travel blog. Provided you demonstrate an ongoing relationship and attachment to Australia. Plus after 5 years overseas you have re-apply for your Medicare card and plenty of my friends came back and simply re-applied with no drama.

As far as beautiful, white sandy beaches I have traveled extensively all over the the Philippines islands and they are a huge draw for me. There are lots of jaw dropping, perfect beaches. The problem I found was that there is not one that is close to a great place to settle down, as in good hospitals, infrastructure
    , etc.

Thank you for all the good content, Paul. So glad to hear you're a Christian! I fell in love with the Philippines. I lived in Quezon City for a year and married a wonderful Filipina. We live near Reekay's mom in California, and we are planning a trip back for 2 months after the first of the year. My wife started a ministry of feeding poor children in Masbate. When she came here to the US, we turned it over to a local pastor and send the money every month for the food. I'd love to meet you when we come back. I'm not sure if we'll get to Dumagete, but I'd like to visit. It sounds like a great place.

Hi Paul. I spent 4 months in Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand beginning November’19. I had not desire to be in the “tourist” areas like Phuket and am kind of turned off by all that. Chiang Rai and Chiang Rai province didn’t have that touristy feeling and that’s why I liked it. I loved Thailand and had planned to go back last November but of course Covid came along. My spiritual life is extremely important to me also and Buddhism is the path that I choose to follow so of course Thailand does appeal to me for the same reason it is more difficult for you. The cost of living up north was/is very cheap compared to Costa Rica where I live now.

Paul, another good video but I would have to take acceptation to your statement that the Philippines is all the same. There is as much diversity in the Philippines as there is in Thailand, maybe more. The problem is that you do have to travel and explore. I think Gio has done a pretty good job finding unique places. Another blogger called "BecomingFilipino" has also ventured far and wide to find some amazing, off the beaten path, locations. It requires an adventurous nature to find these places but they are there. One thing I totally agree with you on is that the people make the Philippines a wonderful place to visit/live. I look forward to retiring there in the near future and hope I am still able to venture out and find those special places to enjoy. Best wishes as always to you and babe Mae.

I’ve been to both countries a number of times, they both have pros and cons, but at the moment because of the virus I’ve been in Thailand since February and very happy I chose Thailand as luckily they’ve been pretty good with dealing with the virus situation, here in Jomtien it has everything you could want with food shops and being able to go out, apart from the curfew of course, I’ve been with an amazing massage girl and she is been wonderful keeping the loneliness at bay, I also have a girlfriend in the Philippines and keep in contact with her too and the life there is tough at the moment, she’s in Cebu, so for now it’s gotta be Thailand for me, until Iam able to get back to the Philippines of course, oh and I love Cambodia too, but that’s another story!

It depends on ppl's preferences.

People often comment that Thailand only wants rich expats. You definitely don’t have to be rich to stay here but there is a point in which too little money is not enough. I think the maximum Social Security benefit is about $2,324/month if you start collecting at age 62. You barely qualify for long term stay in Thailand at that income level. Being married to a Thai improves affordability of a visa somewhat.
I am married to a Thai that speaks pretty good English. We live in central Bangkok with all the pros and cons of city living. I love living here.

I really have enjoyed this video, I had 1yr OA visa returned back to the UK last year and now this Covid has hit the scene so all plans are off presently. I intend to relocate to Asia but have been having doubts about Thailand I agree about your comments about Thailaand and appreciated the comparison to the Philippines, a lot of expats have relocated to Vietnam and Philippines. The Thai gov. does not seem t like Fallangs anymore.

Enjoyed this segment. Living in Bangkok and having been to the Philippines many times with my Filipina wife from Cebu, I could compare many thoughts with you. I resonate with much of your comments but would add other points of view I feel are quite relevant. Love to have a beer or coffee with you. Having a Filipina partner in Bangkok is the best of both worlds perhaps - and her Thai is better than her Filipina languages after 30+ years here.

Hi Paul. Having been to the Philippines several times already, ... and the last time being 9 weeks in the spring of 2019 I'm pretty sure it's where we'll end up retiring. Being a Christian married to a Catholic Filipina I hate when the family goes to church and my wife expects me to go along. It made no sense anyways since the service is in Hiligaynon and I don't understand a word being said. Anyhow the Dumangas Full Gospel Church is right across the street from the family home and I can hear the service (a lot in English) as well as great music right from a chair in the yard.
I'd like to see Thailand some day too, but the way things are out there right now it may never happen. I'm just hoping we can get back to the Philippines next spring without problems.

Disclaimer, I love visiting the Philippines! With that said it's nothing like America! I stay in the province on Cebu power outages, water on for few hours a day, credit cards pretty much useless, Traffic! If you never seen a bus passing a bus on a curve with two motorcycles passing the passing bus or 8 people on a motorcycle just wait you will lol) Tools and supplies hard to find ( usually working in nipas, pig pens, cr's, dirty kitchens) customer service lol not! Philippines time ( when they say they will deliver tomorrow that may be a week?)
And the seasons are HOT, HOT and wet and very HOT lol
    It's both humbling and irritating
    But the people amaze me!
So before anyone decides to sell everything and move there i would really suggest a few lengthy visits patients and a real good sense of humor!! It's not for everyone!!
    Good video Paul!!

Interesting topic paul. honestly I never in my life ever even thought about going to the Philippines but what happened to me was that I met a filipina on a facebook match maker site they had shortly after I divorced for the 2nd time. I had no intentions of any serious relationships as I came out of a very bad marriage and had no intentions of doing it again but I do have a thing for Asian women and was searching for someone to get together maybe couple times a month to have dinner and maybe spend the night if you know what I mean. I found a woman who fit all the things I was looking for and began a friendship with her as she was an ofw in Singapore. Over time I began to think this woman was meeting all the things I was looking for and intrigued me. I spent 3 years talking and facetime etc every day as there was something very special about her and I didn't want to say goodbye to her. Finally I had to make a decision to either fly there and meet her to see if she really was this wonderful woman that she seemed to be. I took the chance and flew half way around the world to meet her. All the time thinking maybe I had lost my mind but I had to find out for myself if this was real. of course I had the bad experience in manilla and took a taxi to a coffee shop at 11pm as my connecting flight didn't leave til 6:00am in terminal 2 and I had no idea how to kill some time. well the "coffee shop" turned out to be a strip club and I was going to meet my girl the following morning so I had no interest in that but was basically held hostage there til I had no more money. bottom line is I did arrive in Davao and meet this woman and spent two weeks with her and had the best time of my life as she was a mountain girl. Bottom line is I am planning my 5th trip there in October as I retire and will try to see how long I can stay in there. nothing about any of the vloggers has influenced me to go there but I am travelling back there again because of a really good woman. I would never have done what you and a few others did by going to a strange place and not knowing anyone. My hats off to you for what you have done in there and I enjoy your videos every day. Keep them up paul. God bless you!!!

Hey there Old Dog! Great video. 👍🏼 Just a little advice, if I may. Your videos will look better if you lock down the exposure on your phone before you hit the record button. Usually if you just touch and hold on the screen it will show a square that it locked. All you have to do is touch the screen again to unlock. I hope it’s easy for the phone you have. If you can figure this out your videos will stop flickering from light to dark throughout your vlog. Just trying to help. 🤗

Good informative info. Thanks for telling it like it is. I lived in Thailand for 5 years. I had some great times and some not so great. I’ve been to the Philippines - Angeles - 2 times visiting for a week each time. I prefer Thailand but the requirements now just to enter the country are ridiculous! I’m retired and in USA now for 1 year because of COVID but I’m thinking 🤔 Philippines is my next destination. I’ve heard Dumaguete is a good expat

I have traveled to Thailand four times; I've never been to the Philippines. Even after listening to you speak about both, I get the feeling that Thailand is "better." You did speak of the importance of English, I get that. Maybe as you say, the Filipino people are a lot warmer. I will have to check it out for myself as I believe the Thai people to be very smiley and friendly. Thanks Man!

It's really about the company you keep. Many expats go to Thailand and treat the people and culture disrespectfully. Thailand offers a better quality of life.

Good video. I like how you don't sugar coat things. I am happily retired 6 years now in Thailand. I don't want to leave. You are right about the visa issues however. I would consider the PI as my plan B if it gets too hard here. It seems that the government doesn't want/appreciate expats here. They want Chinese tourists etc. Short term thinking IMHO. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Paul, I love your stories...! The stores in South Carolina are starting to open back up again. I am afraid to go out because I don't want to get sick. I am 59 years old. I have been cutting my grass and working on the house. I have been doing this for 3 months now. I have a really nice area and my house is the best. Everything I do I take it to the next level. There are lot of states that are opening back up. They still did not open up the beaches. Everyone is really made about that and starting to show up and have signs and fighting with the government. What is happening with you....Are you aloud to go places.....? Are the stricked about traveling around....? Say safe....! Be Good...! Al Sautner

You cannot avoid getting sick from something, even if you stay in your house 24 hours a day. Everytime you touch your mail or delivered groceries, you have a risk of catching something. It is best to not live in fear, live as healthy a lifestyle as you can, and enjoy life and the outdoors. That's what it is all about.

Hard to compare a city of 10 million (Bangkok) to a city of 140,000 (Dumaguete)...There's bound to be more diversity in BKK just because of the size...But I def agree that a countries visa/immigration policies can greatly influence a guys decision making.I have figured a way to live in BKK for 5 months every year without too much trouble...(a 90 day tourist visa and then 2 border runs!)...but then I have to decide what to do until the following year (I'm not rich enough for a retirement or "Elite" level visa.)...I'm 65, retired, no wife or kids...
That's it for now...and remember: Smile as much as you can :) :)
P.S. I'm a little surprised to hear your comments comparing the beaches of Thailand and the Phils...I was under the impression that the Phils had the best beaches in SE Asia by many accounts...
    I've never been :(
