Hollow Knight is my favorite Soulslike, one of my favorite Metroidvania, and the Hollow Knight bosses are collectively some of the greatest ever made. I also called the Pantheon of Hallownest one of my worst "bosses" of the decade. Primarily because they could've added an optional binding to make benches checkpoints to make it more accessible. I never thought I would have the perserverence to defeat the challenge, but here we are.
This Pantheon includes the Nightmare King Grimm boss fight, Pure Vessel, Absolute Radiance, Sisters of Battle, Soul Tyrant, Lost Kin, Failed Champion, Hornet, Hornet Sentinel, Nailmaster Sly, Nailmaster Oro and Mato, Paintmaster Sheo, and of course, Absolute Radiance boss battle. I'll be doing walkthrough commentary over my victory in the hopes of helping you claim the same. It'll take a lot of practice, but if I can do it, I know you can too. Really late here, but you can still avoid Zote on the pantheons by not beating him ever on his dream fight. If he's locked in your Hall of Gods he won't show up

@@thegoatsato I'm not really sure as i'm still struggling with sage, but on the wiki article for p5 it says:
"Grey Prince Zote (Level 3)
(Skipped if Zote is left to die in Greenpath or if Grey Prince Zote was not defeated in the base game)".
I literally took a 2 month break between getting the rest of the achievements and beating this. I'd done all the pantheons with bindings to get the lifeblood but I kept losing to Absolute Radiance even after practicing against it for hours on end. After that 2 month break I was ready to try again and Idk if I was tilted or what before but that time I managed the whole thing in one run without a practice run or anything (that was meant to be my practice run). Single proudest achievement I have on Steam. To anyone who gave up or thinks they can't do it take my word, you can and eventually you WILL!

I honestly never bowed to Grimm, though I always did for the nailmasters. It just feels like the Nailmasters do it out of respect, while Grimm only does it for the show.

I've been trying to beat this pantheon for nearly a month now. I can consistently get to the final seven now but fighting Markoth and Zote in a row is brutal. I kind of regret attempting this pantheon in the save file where I fought Zote.
Zote is by far the most difficult boss in the game. I can practice on any of the others and then beat the in the pantheon. Zote is such a bastard - i can somehow beat him in practice without even being hit (sometimes), but he's so random that he still crushes me in the actual pantheon.
I just started the pantheon today, but I didn't know about Zote being added in if you fought him before. I actually attempted the Zote fight RIGHT before going into Godhome for the first time. What have I done!?
Justavian what about AR? That fucker pushes my shit in when I get to the climbing part. I can only beat it if I’m lucky. Which I actually did today. One of the best feelings ever!
for 1 week. and i died on failed champion.....after practicing pure vessel for hours. i could have done it

A few minor tips that may help: 1) Use descending dark when Dung Defender is burrowed (including his intro) to force him out of the ground for easy hits and otherwise skip all that time waiting for him to come up (EDIT: This will not work on White Defender), 2) the spikes on the initial platform with Absolute Radiance can be temporarily removed by using descending dark over the spikes or by shade dashing into them if you are immediately adjacent to the spikes, 3) you can cheese Failed Champion by simply moving to the opposite wall if FC is far enough away from you - FC will always run at you and leap to the wall after finishing his current attack, usually giving you enough time to make a few swings after dodging his leap and run to the opposite wall. If low on health from Markoth/GPZ it can be a way to play it safe until the first stagger.
Another tip i have is when the collector is jumping over you, you can abyss shriek and get a free 4 ticks granted everything else in the arena is dead.
Another tip is that if you are desperate,like really desperate, start a new file in which you do not save zote.
When I finally beat this it was an incredible feeling. I feel like the biggest flaw is that your experience with Absolute Radiance is very RNG dependent-- you could get lucky and get moves you can deal with, or just get slaughtered.
By contrast, NKG is so consistent and well-balanced that by the end I could beat him reliably almost without getting hit.
Pure Vessal is the same as NKG in that respect

I agree wholeheartedly. Incredible feeling, but man the Abs Rad can throw terrible RNG at you near the end, whereas Grimm and Pure Vessel are flawlessly balanced and consistent. Glad you overcome it though, kudos!
@@CamelsREvil the climbing to the last phase is such a pain in the ass , his first and second phase becomes easy after a lot of practice but the climbing to the last phase is totally a luck based, I lose a lot of hp and sometimes die because of it and then comes the last phase which is also a pain in the ass especially if you don't have a lot of hp but I am happy that I beated the pantheon in the end twice and I don't wanna do that again

I only died 3 times on this pantheon before victory. Once to sly, once to failed champion, once to Abs Rad (to unlock it), and then I won on my next attempt. Of course, it was only AFTER practicing Abs Rad for several hours. Practicing in the hall of gods for long enough really is the ultimate secret for success.
I also died in this pantheon three times, twice to absolute radiance and once to markoth. I think i died to radiance in the hall of gods like 40 times before beating her once.
Very true, and congrats on your early success. Practice really is the key to victory. Once I unlocked Absolute Radiance, I think it was 5-6 attempts before I won. That's including 6 hours of side practice on Abs Rad.
i beat it on my 14th attempt, but i didn’t really practice abs rad much due to it being a really boring fight to repeat over and over (in my opinion) i just prayed that i’d be able clutch a victory

Yeah he spams because there is a heal right after so you don’t need to be careful at all. Most people can do it without getting hit except like once or twice but when you get a full heal right after there is no point in playing it safe.

It's okay, since you can take a bench after the fight. It's hard not to take hit many times, but very easy to beat him anyway.

I got real close to beating this. Lost to NKG on my third try. Then I thought to myself, do I really want to fight Absolute Radiance?
The answer was no.

Update: A couple of months ago I sat down and managed to beat it! You can do it too guys!

absolute radiance is probably harder than any AAA game boss.
The thing is I would gladly get beaten by ABSRAD multiple times until a learn to beat her. However dying on her last phase and having to go through all those bosses again? All my motivation was killed.
I fought repeatedly until I got the Absolute just this past week, usually dying on NKG.
Thankfully in the time it took to get there consistently, I started finding Markoth and Grey Prince Zote much easier, especially if you make use of Deep Focus and Shape of Unn. With these charms, healing is much easier as you can evade several of their attacks, giving the player more opportunities to heal. Which helps QUITE a bit...
As my goal was just to unlock Absolute for practice by getting to her, I didn’t actually beat the Pantheon. I’m also playing it in Godseeker mode due to automatic maxing of stats you get in that mode, and decked out with all charms right away. As cool as the Lord of Shades ending is, I’d rather commemorate it with a shadow box portrait or wall-art painting.
I also don’t think that doing the Pantheon via Godseeker gets you either the achievement or the extra ending, so no loss.
Same, and after that I decided to beat absolute radiance and count it as beating the pantheon for the sake of my sanity.
My friend got upset at absolute radiance and radianted her out of spite. Took him 16 hours to radiant her, it was brutal to watch

Saw I had to do this 4 plat and then I was like, can I beat it? Maybe. Do I enjoy boss rushes? No not even a bit. And so I never attempted it
quirin guenther you should, I don’t enjoy boss rushes but you can definitely beat it, it took me a while to practice but I got it.
It’s not too bad except for the markoth and zote combo, nkg, pure vessel, and absolute radiance. You only really need to practice pure vessel and absolute radiance because it’s the first time you ever fight them but it’s really satisfying to beat.
Brush I cant beat the second hornet battle in the main game your pretty good

doing this took me about 20 hours over 2 weeks of practice. easily the most gratifying gaming achievement I've ever done. Congrats man!

Mate, HUGE thank you for giving me that Charm idea for Absolute Radiance. My first attempt at the Pantheon of Hallownest with a bit of practice at AbsRad using that build got me through it!

I just want to say thanks to everyone here for the advice on how to beat the pantheon. I finally beat it after 150 hours, and with it I was able to get the platinum for Hollow Knight. I would never have been able to even come close to beating it without this video and all the people who posted tips and tricks on the different bosses.
I initially thought practicing in Hall of the Gods was a waste of time, but everyone one is right it helps immensely in overcoming this pantheon. Also, the PV and AR charm build as it was EXTREMELY helpful in allowing me to recover from near death in the final fight.
Demods strat : Is simple and tries to make the pantheon as easy as possible
My strat: DO EVERY SINGLE BOSS ON AT LEAST ASCENDED IF NOT RADIAL AND SPEND 100'S OF HOURS PRACTICING

I’ve been doing the same. The good thing is this means that I can beat ~80% of the bosses in the game without getting hit, but there’s those few bosses like NGK, PV, and AR that are always gonna be hard no matter what you do

It took me around 150 hours of playtime to beat this. It takes a lot of practice, but I think anyone can do it given enough time. Congrats, Demod!

This took me so long the first time I went through the game. Then, after having played for months and finished the hall of gods on radiant, I ended up first trying the poh in another playthrough. It really is just muscle memory, it's just so long and the end bosses can fuck you up sometimes
I didn't even do radiant bosses, but my second playthrough I slapped the absolute radiance the first time I made it to the top of pantheon 5. Felt amazing after the like 40 hours it took the first time
For sure. Practice in the Hall of the Gods is the key to not going insane through attempting the long rushes in the Pantheon only to die on the final 3. Kudos on claiming victory!

@@haydeng3316 So is it luck based? I think it involves baiting certain attacks and learning how to get out of tight situations. It's like a Cuphead Boss. Right?
Another way to deal with the last phase of AR is to stay on the platforms right before the projectule hits you and then jumping and hitting the radiance, landing on the other platform. Then repeat.
The projectiles will either disappear into the fog or hit the platform. It's very safe and consistent.
Little tip for NKG, when he shoots the bats jump through the first and second bats and when you land, immediately heal once. As long as you're far enough away from Grimm the 4th bat will always pass just over you and give you enough time to heal 1 mask

Hi there. I started playing Hollow Knight back in March 2019. I got 112% pretty quickly and made my way to Godhome. Got humbled a couple times, taking some time off the game until I eventually finished the 4th pantheon. I quickly realized that the 5th is a whole different beast altogether. I have spent a couple hours each day for the last 6 months practicing each boss that I found difficult. Found this video about a month ago and I got to Absolute Radiance for the very first time a few days ago. Yesterday I managed to beat it and got myself the platinum trophy for one of the best games I have ever played, all thanks to your tips and my stuborness.
I have seen a couple of your videos here and there, never really noticing it was the same channel. With how much effort I now know you put into these videos, I gladly subscribed. My brother and I will always remember the great challenge we accomplished with your supprt.

You can’t got 112% without made your way in Godhome because completing the third pantheon give you 1%.

don't know if this is a joke or not, but if this is still helpful: if you have beaten the false knight and have aquired the vengeful spirit (spell) go to the area with the many elevators and go through an entrance at the left where a few green plants are. There you'll find an enemy who guards the next area. good luck.

After dying to Pure Vessel thrice in a row I decide to get some practice trying to get him in Ascended difficulty. Finally I got to Absolute Radience and died immediately, but at least I can now practice for my final foe
Same thing happened to me last week so I beat him on radiant out of spite
tips you may or may not know
-you can descending dark dung defender, it knocks him out of the ground
-you can dreamnail multiple bosses as they spawn in to get more soul(oro and mato when mato spawns in, watcher knights, troupe master grimm, etc.)
-you can refresh false knight and failed champion’s staggers by pogoing on their shell, this allows you near infinite opportunity to heal and get soul with the dream nail.(he does mention this in the video)
-always bow to the nail masters(this has no effect on combat), don’t bow to grimm though, dreamnail his ass
Personally, I find bowing to Grimm really helps me out in the fight
Thanks man, I really appreciate this video. I finally just beat the Pantheon of Hallownest after 2 months or so of trying every other day! I had mastered every boss except for Absolute Radiance up until this point, although I was still decent at the boss. With the help of that Deep Focus build, I was able to beat the Pantheon of Hallownest after only my 2nd attempt using it! It makes it so much easier, there's so many spots where you can get a heal or two in during phase 4. At the very end, I was 1 hit away from dying, but I kept my concentration and pulled through! Finally got my long awaited Platinum for this game.
I legit ran through an entire new 112 percent playthrough so I didn't have to fight grey prince zote 🤣

When nightmare King Grimm or normal Grimm turns into the bats and grimmchild there is no need to attack him cuz it doesn't do damage. I play with health bar mods so it was confirmed.

@@masterspork3735 well when Grimm is in his Bat form upon being hit the health bar does not drop. The health bar will only drop for him when he's not in his Bat form. He also dies right as the bars empty so it has to be accurate. The only times I've had the health bar mod misbehave is sometimes when you kill a common enemy, the empty health bar will remain over the corpse. Also for whatever reason absolute radiance dies early when she still has and 8th or so of her health left.

While I had beaten the Pantheon a year ago this was still very helpful. Thank you Dmod for giving these tips. Also I do agree that there could have been checkpoints during the Pantheon but I still enjoyed it because I love boss rushes in games.

Thank you for the charms and the guide, ended up beating absolute radiance first try. Down to 1 health so many times but the double heal saved my ass!
I watched this full well knowing that I didn't need any help with any of this. I've already beaten this challenge several times and I'm even attempting an all bindings run. I just came to hear the cool and casual commentary and see strategies that other people use. I just like how wildly they can vary from my own.
How many attempts did it take

From there I spent 4 days trying to get to a point where I can consistently kill her in the hall of Gods
After that it took 3 more attempts, both of the fails being to her
@@demonslyr722 nice, my second attempt I got to PV but hard choked, then took me 8 more attempts to get to abs rad because I occasionally took breaks, and got stuck on Markoth and Zote a bit. Then after I actually started to practice those specific two I beat the pantheon soon after. My usual time spent in the HoG was just practicing PV so I’d insure that I’d never choke on him again. Crazy to think how much faster I could of completed the pantheon had I not have choked my second attempt.
For anyone still struggling with this I reccomend:
1. Turn off music(you can hear attacks better and focus more)
2. If you get frustrated take a break(you play worse when you are pissed off)
My personal setup was mark of pride, strength, heart, and quick focus. Then I used the same build as this guy in the end. Good luck.

@@blackswan7098 Nail Arts and spells, i've gotten him never actually using the normal slash, just the great slash and dash slash. I had spell twister+soul eater so i had more than enough soul to finish his phase 2 quickly.
@@Amiko_Ami12 thx for the reply and tips :) since my post, i have completed the pantheon. Still workin on markoth, PV, and absrad on radiant (only ones i havent done so on).
This was the final achievement on steam for me. I had 62/63. This was the final one I needed for the platinum. This took so long and most of my runs ended at the final phase of Abs Rad. But finally, I did it this morning. I literally screamed so loud when I got that final hit, it was amazing. After I beat it and got the platinum, I went back to Dirtmouth and just sat on the bench and enjoyed the music for a solid 5 minutes. After hundreds of hours, I finally can say I've experienced everything in this game. I'm ready for Silksong now.
I made it thanks to the deep + quick focus combo. Playing defensively and being able to make mistakes was key in the last 3 bosses for me. I recommend trying it out if you are struggling!
I feel like once you respect and appreciate the bosses, the pantheon becomes a lot easier. Taking your time and expecting to fail will actually lead to a lot of success because you're calm about it. It's nice.
I got incredibly lucky. I decided to try this for the first time like yesterday after watching this. I got about 4 tries in total between yesterday and today in and for 2 of them i got up to grey prince zote before dying. I switched up the charm setup after White Defender to be the same as the charm setup used for after NKG. It worked like a charm (pun intended) and next attempt i was able to get past grey prince zote, and killed NKG. Earlier I had done a few practices for NKG, Zote, Ascended Markoth, and Pure Vessel and my Pure Vessel runs were the best that they had ever been so I was fairly confident I would kill them. And I did. I knew going in that I had absolutely no chance at Absolute Radiance, but I was fine with that because then I'd be able to practice her. Amazingly, thanks in large part to your tips, I killed her first try. I still can't believe that I had beaten this in roughly 5 attempts. Thank you for the help. For those of you who are still doing this, be patient, I believe you can all do it eventually.

Watching this because I love demods content even though I’ve still never beat the 4th pantheon. Maybe one day. I stopped trying after a while because I had so many games still unplayed. Great job as always.
Dude, thank you! I had been running the Pantheon of Hollownest for months. I was so close but Radiance was just out of reach. Your charm setup actually let me beat her with literally ONE MASK. Again, thank you Demod for gifting me with the ability to not waste 3 more months of my life!
Altough the video is great and I know this comment comes in very late, I have to add something which I hope will help someone: I would highly recommend putting the deep focus + quick focus + Grubsong + strength Charm Combo on right after White Defender as it really helps dealing with Markoth without having to rely on his positioning too much and also corrects possible fuck ups against NKG. I also have to add two informations which make the fights against PV and AbsRad easier. First, when PV is at 66% health he uses his focus attack (as seen in the vid). Use this attack to focus if you're not full on HP. You can get unlucky with the following explosions, however in this case you wont lose HP and get some I frames. Second, If AbsRad casts the Orbs during the platform phase (Not the final one) jump down. The Orbs can be difficult to avoid, might hit you multiple times and the void only deals one mask while providing enough time + I frames to avoid the orbs completely. When she does the attack again, Fall down again, then heal immedeatly. The soul you get for the falls ist enough to heal and the I frames give you time to heal. If this was AbsRads last attack heal immedeatly for the last phase. At last ( this was stated in the vid already but I need to make it clear) the solar beam attack of Abs Rad ( the three light lasers) are great for healing as they not only leave a predictable safe space but AbsRad wont cast quick follow up attacks after this attack as well. These exploits might make the difference if the fight takes a nasty turn.
Edit: By using the aforementioned charms combo earlier you also can deal with GPZ easily if you have to fight him and should be able to go out of Markoth and GPZ with full health.
Oh this one has an easy answer. Just suffer until you don't. By that I mean until you beat it.
I did it with all bindings because I'm just masochistic like that... Don't do the same, just don't.
The charms you used for PV and AbsRad were what it took for me to get the final achievement in my favorite game. Thank you so much!

FYI you don't have to pogo False Champion, you can just jump to the other side and hit the armor. Then attack, dream nail, attack dream nail, attack heal, attack heal, repeat until your tanks are full 🌝
Additional tip for NKG: Cyclone slash on the pillar attack! It does 1.25x nail damage and you can easily get 4-6 hits in. This deals slightly more damage than Abyss Shriek and triggers his stagger sooner. You can use your extra soul with Shade Soul (either at bats or during his quarter health transition).
To be exact, Unbreakable Strength does not stack with Nail Art. So Cyclone will do 27 dmg per hit. 5 hits will do 135 compared to Abyss' 130.
Suprised to see how many people actually manage to complete this, the platinum percentage at psnprofiles is at 6% (which really isn't that low considered this extremely challenging pantheon and the fact that it's not an unpopular or unknown game). I always deemed this one to be impossible, I might give it another go using this guide though.

Thanks to this guide, I first tried the Pantheon Of Hallownest. I’m not kidding. I first tried it and now I can do it with no effort.
I've gotten good at every boss (even Markoth), but Absolute Radiance.... I've beaten her once in around 100 attempts. It has been weeks since I made that victorious attempt. I'll never be able to consistently beat her, and I've long made peace with that fact.

The most efficient way to get p5 is in my opinion : when you die to a boss in p5, you train it until getting him down in radiant difficulty, then you’re sure you won’t die again against him

Fun fact for people coming through these days: when Grimm is staggered, he only takes a maximum of 50 damage, so repeatedly abyss shrieking wastes a lot of soul during this part.
For Flukemarm I like to use Cyclone Slash into Abyss Shrieks. If you tap the nail button while you do the Cyclone Slash you get additional hits, and with Unbreakable Strength and Shaman Stone this combo kills

The hardest part for me was markoth + zote that would kill me in a lot of my runs so i trained them hard, especially markoth
the goal for me was leaving markoth arena with full hp to be able to kill zote pretty fast with spells
But then comes absolute radiance that was a really big pain to deal with, i was constantly dying to the last 2 phases

Finally I just finished pantheon of hallownest and got the platinum with 205 hours it was such an amazing game and challenge

For being in a game that is overall moderately hard, the 5th Pantheon is one of the hardest things in any game

Don't they cancel each other out? I've never heard of them being used together.
If you use both you get to heal 2 masks in the same amount of time that you would heal only one without any charms that affect your focus at the painful cost of 7 charm notches
I personally used this strategy to complete the pantheon of hallownest and it made it much easier
I have already completed the Pantheon of Hallownest, but I enjoy your content so I have decided to watch it

I have a tip:
On false knight/failed champion, on the final stagger he doesn't get up. You can dream nail him as many times as you want before you kill him, allowing you to have max health and soul while you move on. Great for spell builds
I gave up on a few ridiculously difficult parts in some of my favorite games about a year ago and now I've got this gigantic urge to revisit them to finally put em to rest. Pantheon 5 is for sure at the top of the list, getting to play the final difficulty on Butcher (stuck on 5-4), completing a full run of Gonner 2, the last 2 difficulties in Nex Machina, finish the higher difficulty on Titan Souls, and the last 5 levels for SlimeSan (still have ALL the DLCs to do too lol). Wish me luck!
I just beat pure vessel for the first time. Countless deaths and many hours later I get lucky and out damage him at the end. Still a long ways to go before I perfect the fight and later pantheon 4, but your advice on staying on the ground really helped a lot. Thanks! I’m looking forward to eventually beating pantheon 5

I'm still unsure if I had a good time completing this. Think it took me about 8-10 hours from unlocking it to beating abs rad, and parts of it was just... Boring I guess? 90% of the bosses just get kind of mindless after beating them a few times, and I only really lost runs to Markoth, Pure Vessel and abs rad herself. I was also really disappointed by abs rad. The balls following you can get a little buggy, hitting you after they've disappeared, and a few ability combinations/postitionings can feel genuinely unfair at times. I just had a feeling of "thank god that's over" rather than accomplishment.
However, most bosses were fun to learn and master, it was pretty cool how you got to the hard parts faster and faster each time and that it's all due to your growth as a player rather than item or ability upgrades.
This is the only achievement I never got when playing this game. It's been a while, but this video kinda made me want to try again. Maybe I'll beat the game again and try it :)
NKG was literally a breather boss for me between Markoth and GPZ. Those two give me endless trouble.
I've made it all the way to NKG in the Hallownest Pantheon, haven't beaten him yet though (Markoth ruins every attempt cause I suck at dealing with him beforehand lol). Great job DeMod!
That thumbnail is pretty accurate. We all know that the hardest boss is the primal aspid.
My next attempt will be attempt 13 (technically 14 but my 12th attempt was a self-death because I had to get off of HK for some time). These pantheon attempts have
been so inconsistent… made it to PV on my second attempt but choked EXTREMELY hard, then for the next 8 attempts I’d get stuck on different bosses. Watcher knights somehow, Winged Nosk and the Markoth + Zote combo (Markoth lowered my health and Zote finished me off). Made it to Abs Rad 10th attempt then took a break from the game. Came back and made it to her 11th attempt but choked, (despite practicing her about 10 times in HoG with most being wins), and bad RNG didn’t contribute. Then I tried your charm setup in HoG and it’s working really well, I’m almost positive that the next time I make it to Abs Rad I’ll win easily. Attempt 12 was somehow cut short by a Markoth death, even though I’ve never died to him at all in this pantheon. I might spend some actual time in HoG besides destroying NKG and PV for fun.
Fantastic gameplay, you actually have me thinking that maybe... just maybe... I might be able to do this and get the platinum trophy.
Thanks for the video! Beat it today with demods strategy late. Managed to barely beat it as I was complete trash against pure vessel and down to one health before first knockdown (yes that bad) even with 3 extra blue health. The deep focus quick focus got me out of trouble and then that strategy is just perfect against absolute radiance with healing windows.

I haven't played HK ever since Godhome released, and I still regret not ever beating Pure Vessel and Pantheon 4. Ngl this video makes me want to replay the game. This time I'll play on Switch. I'll definitely kick PV's ass this time.

I’m not the best player, but I know this,
Spell build: Shaman Stone, Spell Twister, Soul Catcher, is a good little combo.
Nail Build: Mark of Pride, Stalwart Shell, and Quick Slash
I tried so many charm builds when I was active with this game against Radiant except for yours. I'm literally thinking that that build alone may allow me to get the final achievement and close the book on that game from two years ago. I memorized so many patterns and would get to Radiant with full health but never invested enough time to practice the pogo off of her head and dashing to repeat it. I normally die at that point and have to start all over in the 45 minute boss rush (plus I saved Zote). I'll post here again in an update saying if I won or not.
