People need to quit tripping on how this guy looks. He's a man performing a skillful job, and lending assistance to those who have interest in the field of welding. A company that hires based on the appearance of an employee, rather than the performance of their skill set, is a company that won't go very far. Some of the best welders I ever met looked quite rough, but could lay down the most perfect beads. Hire on performance and experience, not appearance and pointless aesthetics.
Jesse Borders yea I don't get it either. He seems like a personable guy and obviously very knowledgeable so who gives a shit about his tattoos. I don't think any customers are gonna say "omg he's got tattoos I'm not buying his products". What people don't like is some pretty boy who has no clue what they're talking about but think they've got a silver tongue.
Anybody who takes the time to explain in great detail stuff to beginners and all the gochas, is cool as hell and cute too. Kindness and intelligence transfer is super sexy. It's pretty much where most guys fail... too busy showing off their intelligence, not enough time conveying their intelligence. There's a big difference. The first, they learn nothing from you but that you're an arrogant prick; the second, they learn something from you and can do what you do on their own without you even around.
I taught 8th grade U.S. History for 12 years and am tattooed from the elbow up on both arms and my entire back. It does not effect the way I did my job.
An extremely good video, many thanks!! Step by step you covered all the basic aspects. I wanted to get an overview of welding how hard it is, what investment in tools, process, tips, etc and I got a lot from this. Your voice is easy to listen to, as well. I will keep Eastwood tools in mind when I start. This is how a DIY video tutorial should be. Very much appreciated!
Hi, I am a bit of a newbie to welding. I have been welding for about a year and I know I have still have an awful lot to learn. I watched this video last night and took what I had learned into the workshop this morning. The difference was amazing, Thank you very much. Kind regards Ron.
I'm new to wielding and I understand now how it works. My first time was not what I had expected. I spent like 1 hour and 40 mins for doing it over and over again. Still. The result was not that good. It was very frustrating. But then, while everyone was out for a break, which is the end lesson for us for 2 hours but then we're out early. But I didn't go, I stayed. I spent 20 mins with the person in charge which happens to be my lecturer, he showed a demo once again and when it was my turn, he said, "Let's try again, one more try before you go for a break". And then, I did what he said. I'm not a give up person and I won't give up that easily. No way. I have to push myself. But then, one last try. It's worth it than nothing at all. My lecturer watched what I did so far and said that, I've made some progress and improvement. But, as long as I keep practicing, I believe myself that I will get better and better.
your first time wasnt what u expected? ( fnurr fnurr).... you were at it for an hour and forty minutes? (fnurr fnurr) did you have a cigarette after? 😏
+Aina Dolittle Keep practicing and you will develop muscle memory. It's like learning to ride a bike. It took me a while after I first got my everlast welder to get my eye / hand coordination working properly. Keep working at it.
fantastic video mate, great job presenting it, and also extremely informative. Don't worry about peeps hating on your hair, they're probably already balding at 23 years old. Keep up the great work.
I have not had any welding time under my belt when I got hired on in a fab shop. Before my test I watched video after video. I took my test and got hired 2 hours later. Now after a month if being in this shop, still watching videos I'm still learning from them. Point being... You can learn to weld from videos.
I know this is an old video very old but I think it's a damn good one thanks so much for putting them on Eastwood your videos are great very educational great for beginners like me thanks so much for putting them out
great work. exactly what I wanted. Very concise video and it explained where my welds were going foul. My only critical point is not explaining the ground a bit better. The ground scares many folk out of welding before they get started. Everybody thinks we'll shock ourselves to death with these machines. I only suggest grounding should be its own video. Thanks for the great video and goodnight.
My muffler slipped out of its rubber hanger and hung down. And another exhaust hanger made of metal broke at the weld from the tension. I’m trying to learn how to weld, this is pretty helpful.
I can't believe that people are complaining about the tattoos being distracting. IT'S A WELDING VIDEO!! if you want softer, gentler videos, go watch something on quilting or needlepoint. LOSERS.
thanks for uploading this. I'm looking into going to school for Welding and found this video to be a big help in deciding if I want to pursue it or not
How about making a welder that can hear it's own welds and adjust accordingly? For the novice welder. These videos are the first I've seen and will probably ever need to see. Really look forward to tackling a lot of various welding projects. Especially the stainless steel and aluminium.
I'm going to be getting into welding as a trade and beyond. This is very informative and just plain cool. My hang up is protection from the fumes. I've done some research on the 3m speedglas helmets. I want to be able to do this, but want to do it safely
I believe you ment inner shield wire welding with out using gas. Flux core gives you the slag (the material you chip of the top of the weld) like inner shield but without the gas you will get porosity
Very very good. I wish I had watched this when I was first starting. Being on a live video feed would have to play with your nerves, which is why I correct him with the utmost respect. With flux core, the flux is on the inside not the outside. That is why it is called flux "core". Not a big deal, but could be confusing for beginners. 25:48
I'd a structural / heavy frame welder. And just some settings tips for people using a Lincoln machine. Anything under an inch think run 23.7 Amps, with 250 wire speed, forehand welds. Anything above an inch to two inches, runs a bit hotter 24.3 amps, and 275 - 280 wire speed. Anything above Two inches requires preheating, and you can actually run the 23.7 amps with 250 wire speed and back step to fill. just thought I'd share my techniques :)
Very informative!! Wish I could see exactly how fast you move your tip and how far away you hold it. My son got me my first welder, I am loving it!! But not very good!!!
A question about wire size..... Im trying to do a gasser streetrod build on an old 60 Comet, I have to either pretty much plate the frame and tie the front and back in with sub frame connectors or cut out the old thin frame and build one out of new tubeing which I would rather not do. My question is would .30 size wire be alright to use on the old frame while I plate it with 1/8 flat stock which is I think thicker then the frame that is already in it as stock, or should I go with a smaller wire? Thanks, and I hope I explaned this right and you know what im talking about since you do repairs like this.
the person in the video is so interesting & really explains everything really nice im gonna watch this vid over n over it's 1 of the best explained vids out there .......... to do sheet metal welding with a mig pak 10 what should the settings be at more or less ??
Just bought your 175 Mig. Great video! What about showing some of the real life welding techniques on a project, i.e. car, motorcycle, or some fab job?
now I some how have to practice my lap , corner , t , butt joins on the mig , tig , and arc machines. And turning the amps up to high maybe I can uses these machines over a plasma cutter or gas welding torch to cut as well as welding materials
nice video on what it sounds like and looks like to have it wrong settings for the gas , wire speeds or amp/volt setting. Obviously to distinguish between to high wire speed and to little gas they sound very similar but the high wire speed logically would make a taller bead on the metal surface. not sure how to tell if not enough amps/voltage yet by sound / sight. I know what ever setting I have if I get the sissle like in a sauté pan I am going to be ok
thanks for the video. I'm deciding if I want to get into welding. I've learned a little bit from my stepdad, not much, but I think I'm finding my niche in welding.

I just bought a Eastwood mig 135. The only time you should use flux core is outside? where can you buy the gas bottles? There's so much to learn . I wish you had a few classes in NY. You guys are AWESOME.
+James Weissbach You can use flux core indoors or outdoors. If possible, use shielding gas rather than flux core wire because you will have nicer, cleaner welds. If you're outside and there is a breeze that could blow away your shielding gas and create bad welds, you can use flux core to solve the problem. You can purchase gas bottles at most welding supply stores. Thanks.

The gas in that bottle is not flammable, but yeah you don't have to open the bottle all the way. That tip is more applicable for acetylene torches and such.

Matt is the man, gave me my intro to TIG welding at the Eastwood store a few years ago, great teacher, patient guy.
LISTEN TO THE WELDS!
10:01 - Too Hot
11:35 - Too Cold
13:13 - No Gas
14:38 - Just Right
Very helpful
Too cold and just right sound very similar to me, how can i tell the difference?
Jake From State Farm
Very Big difference in Sound Imo
The too cold is like pulsing and the just right is smooooooth 👍👍

I’m applying January for welding class at local vocational school

what about a listen like this about the hobart 10000 arch welder
A good weld has a consistent high pitch tone to it. Not choppy like when the wire speed is too fast.
Thank you so much for posting this!
Great video :) I going to weld in Iron, can I use one of your MIG machines or is it a Mag Machine I need to bye? Thanks
What about a gasless mig welder? (with flux core) How to and what settings on Lincoln 3200 mig welder? :0

Matt, can the 90 amp flux wire welder be used to weld a muffler back to the tail pipe while it's still attached to the vehicle or does it need to be removed? Thanks Matt. Scott D. Boyce
Can u use Flux cored wire in a welder that normally uses gas
James - yes... I'm not an expert, but any wire feed MIG welder should be able to do FCAW. (Flux-cored arc welding)
My welder is a Lincoln that was not sold with the capability to even do MIG (Metal Inert Gas), but can be upgraded with a kit that includes a solenoid controlled valve for the gas, regulator, and different nozzle end on the gun.
Then there is flux cored wire that also requires shielding gas, dual shield flux core (I'm not sure if that one has an abbreviation like FCAW)
My basic understanding is:
All wire feed welder (including MIG) can do FCAW, but not all wire feed welders have the hardware to do MIG, though many can be upgraded.

will the spot welder tip work on a Lincoln electric ? and would it still be absolutely perfect if your spot welding at a 90" angle?
How much it costs to take the whole training and how long would it take? Im interested in the welding field
What are the flakes called, and can they cause severe burns if they fall on someone? Thanks.
