Good, tasty crunchy tones, lush and deep reverb, hypnotic tremolo, what a great package! This amp is not harsh and fizzy at all, a con usually found in late seventies Silverface amps, cheers Johan!
I have an original 1968 Pro Reverb. They are fantastic. The small OT gives them the nice breakup when played loud. I bought a Marshall “Bluesbreaker” years ago that had all the recommended vintage mods and played them side by side. The Marshall was returned to the shop. No comparison.
At last!! You reviewed my amp. I LOVE the vibrato and feedback on this baby. I got one from the 70s, very MC5ish. Not much past 10K but the midrange is a blast.
I have a 74 Pro Reverb and did not know it could get that dirty. It’s so loud that I’m never allowed to turn it all the way up where I play. Great pedal platform though.
Awesome! I never considered the Pro Reverb because it was "only" a 50 watt amp. I bought a brand new Princeton Reverb for something like $200US in 1978 and then moved up to a well-used blackface Twin a year or so after that. I bought the Twin without speakers and to make sure it didn't float away, I loaded it with EVM 12Ls! My then young back didn't mind moving it around. If I still owned it (foolishly said good-buy in 1989), it wouldn't ever move! Thanks again for another video and a great reminder of why we should have never sold off our old Fender amps!
I have the same amp but I swapped in Celestion g12-65's and put original speakers in a stand alone 2x12 to use with other amps. The Celestions smoothed out the tone in a great way and it's one of my best pedal platform amps. Johan is leaving no sleeper amps untouched
Another great sounding amp! I just played the re-issue yesterday in my local music store. (Didn't crank it that loud though!). You're absolutely right about the Marshall-like sound. Hearing that AC-DC and KISS tone there at the beginning. Cheers!
AH....this Pro Reverb is the 70 watt ultra linear version. I had a '79 Fender Super Reverb that was also like the Pro Reverb in this video (70 watts, ultra linear transformers). Had lots of memories with that amp. Once I scored an '82 Fender Concert II Rivera head with a Mesa/Boogie Stiletto-Traditional 4x12 straight cab (280 watts & pre-Gibson takeover), I parted ways with the Super Reverb.
I had a blackface 66 version of this, it’s like a super reverb in a 2x12 in a way. Sounded great but also really loud when it Got good and really thin/sterile at low volumes. . Awesome Pedal platform.
The "half-power twin reverb" pro is greater than the sum of it's parts, sounds great! The 40 watt fenders have always been some of my favorite and the new '68 pro reverb is the amp fender should have always made, more power than a deluxe, single channel and 1x12.
I had a Twin Reverb from this same era that almost sounded this good, but it needed tubes and the speakers were shot. Still, it sounded like God when you cranked it, but boy was it loud when you did. I was broke at the time and had to sell it, wish I had it back. Great playing and tone, as usual.
Johan brings us another amazing-sounding Silverface! After the Silverface Vibrolux, Bassman, Super Reverb and now this, I have to conclude that my poor opinion of the line was not due to the amps, but due to me only having played them back when I couldn't be anywhere near cranked, and didn't own any attenuators - it's clearly time to revisit them.
Thanks for the great review Johan! It's given me great insights as to the amps manners & sonic qualities. I'm currently considering to buy one in my area at extremely good price. Love that Fender-Twang!!!
what a great amp, seems a lot like the Super Reverb just with 2x12. Reverb and Vibrato sound great, could hear some Peter Green tones in there. Great demo, Johan, have a great weekend.
The Super Reverbs and Pro Reverbs are actually dang near identical aside from the output transformer, and of course speakers. Otherwise exactly the same
Great sounding amplifier. I think when you turn that tremolo on is that all that gain that you have invented a new Style of swamp Rock! You have invented hard swamp Rock. Cheers
I actually prefer the 70 watt Pro Reverbs with the ultralinear output transformers. For a drop dead gorgeous clean tone, there is no other amp on earth that can touch them. They are just LUSH.
Awesome! If you compare again, try some single coils, baritone. I use my 1980 Pro Reverb with Jazzmaster, vintage Harmony with DeArmond pups, Bass VI, lap steel with rails
AMAZING sounding amp! The new 68 Custom doesn’t offer anything over the original! There is absolutely nothing better about a 1x12 amp over a 2x12, with the exception of weight…
Hi! How loud is it? I see everyone saying these ultralinear sound "sterile" "glassy" "not fender like" "cant break" but this video is another thing! Sounds wild!
If Levi Strauss were smart, they'd start sponsoring you and your videos. I don't wear Levi's yet, but if I can sound like Johan, I will buy Crocs and Levi's 😉! Seriously though, fantastic tones again Maestro! God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
What's your preferred setting to produce the kind of crunch/distortion sounds you're getting during most of this video ? Would that be too loud for smaller venues ?
I have a 1979 Pro Reverb with original CTS speakers. I don't know why this beautiful amps are the least loved ones but If anyone wants a pure Fender amp sound these are the ones for more affordable price.
damn that's a sharp transition from clean to crunchy tone... not really what I like... but in a way I like it still! and with that reverb on the overdriven tone, it sounds absolutely phenomenal I think...
Fender's most underrated amp ever, in my opinion. They ROCK!
Best demo of this amp I’ve seen. The late 70’s master volume/ultralinear pro reverbs get a bad rap, but they are sweet. I love mine.
Sounds absolutely incredible. I’m certain you can plug into a toaster and it would sound incredible.
Would CRUNCH nicely! \m/
Good, tasty crunchy tones, lush and deep reverb, hypnotic tremolo, what a great package! This amp is not harsh and fizzy at all, a con usually found in late seventies Silverface amps, cheers Johan!
Thanks Vincenzo. Have a great weekend Cheers!
Great demo! I love the fact that you actually play music and not just noodle around :)
Thanks Sam! I’m glad to hear that!
That tremelo is awesome, what an amp... Definitely one of the Fender amps I'd love to own someday, along with a blackface bassman, and a twin...

I've got an original 68' too. Drip edge. The thing just plain rocks.
The best black/silver face amp fender made!
At last!! You reviewed my amp. I LOVE the vibrato and feedback on this baby. I got one from the 70s, very MC5ish. Not much past 10K but the midrange is a blast.
My black face pro tube pro reverb sounds just like this and the fender super reverb !
So much gain for a fender it almost sounds like a tweed !
What a nice crunch tone! And that reverb!
Thanks Frank!
@@JohanSegeborn people rarely consider Fender amplifiers for crunch tones, but... listen to that sound!
@@frankscassi4960 You can actually make a Twin sound like that too, if you pull out two output tubes. Earlier breakup and more dirt.
You can say that again
Not bad for a late 70s fender

Thanks! Twin with 2xEVM12L sounds really cool and heavy :-)
actually they were originally 40 watts, and then 70 in the later version.
I think it is awesome the best crunch ever heard..
Sounds great!
My ’73 Pro Reverb was my go to amp for quite a while. At some point I installed two JBL K120s, which is a great match, I think.
Thanks, that’s sounds like a great match!

Love that tone! Great amp. I didnt expect that from a Fender
Thanks John!
Play with a Pro Reverb in the 80's. Great amp !!! Greetings from Mar del Plata, Argentina !
Cheers from Gothenburg Sweden!
That thing sounds truly magical ! And as always you played great Johan!

This tone makes me want to buy this amp.
This amp is great Johan, I've got the same year and model. This amp has so much versatility on tap.

Thanks Anthony! Yeah they need to be pushed a bit
Great video and amp! I have a 66 pro reverb and it's aweome. My favourite amplifier.
Thanks Andrew!
Mid to late 60s Pro Reverb. Arguably the best amp ever made.
Thanks for the great review Johan! It's given me great insights as to the amps manners & sonic qualities. I'm currently considering to buy one in my area at extremely good price. Love that Fender-Twang!!!
Another UL amp! Lost the tube rectifier and gained 30w! Can't wait to hear this thing!
I always dig a cranked fender amp with the reverb on.. Think like a less "grungy" Neil Young tone
what a great amp, seems a lot like the Super Reverb just with 2x12. Reverb and Vibrato sound great, could hear some Peter Green tones in there. Great demo, Johan, have a great weekend.

@2:55 Johan’s signature lick.
Dream amp - and you can hear it on the otherside of the town.
Great sound! Wasn't this the amp that was used by Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer on "Johnny Winter and... Live" ?
Wow, I did not know the ‘78 sounded this good! These are still relatively cheap
Thanks, yeah great bang for the buck!
1:33 WOOOOOAH!
Rolling stones + Kiss !
Very nice riff !
Thanks, great to hear that!
From the first tones, I liked it.
Thanks Vic! Great to hear that!
Ouhch glad I bought one last week!
I'd love to hear it with a tele!

Could you do a gilmour tone on a deluxe reverb or getting a hiwatt sound out of a blackface?
This’ll be great for some surf music, perfect sound!
surf-metal?
@@frankdou4132 Surf is just shredding without the distortion haha
@@semdallinga69 and with a lot of reverb... ;o)
I bet you’d get a great CCR tone out of this one as well
Thanks! Yeah I got that vibe too
I like the vintage one better, it sounds amazing
What were the settings on this? Volume 2 and master volume??
Wonderfull!
Thanks Otavio!
Didn't Marshall base their first amps on the 59 bassman? Maybe not strange that we hear similarities between the two brands? 🤷♂️
Dig that big fat tone!
Thanks Patrick!
Hi! How loud is it? I see everyone saying these ultralinear sound "sterile" "glassy" "not fender like" "cant break" but this video is another thing! Sounds wild!
There is a magic that happens when you don`t rely on modern emulation to reproduce or inspire playing or tone.
Excellent demo! What are your impressions of this as it compares to the Bassman of the same era?
Thanks! It’s brighter and middier
@@JohanSegeborn I'm tempted to go pick up an 81 near me.

My guess is this amp would sound more like Marshall with the Oxford cab 12T 6’s.
I’m really impressed with the gain and clarity on that amp, wow. Is that seriously just the amp Johan? What tubes are in it? Sounds great. 👍🏻🎸 - K
Thanks Kurt! Yeah guitar straight into the amp. It’s got 2x 6L6 JJ. The guitar pickups are SD A2 Pro and BB1
The new one is actually different. There’s only one channel and one speaker!
I have a 1979 Pro Reverb with original CTS speakers. I don't know why this beautiful amps are the least loved ones but If anyone wants a pure Fender amp sound these are the ones for more affordable price.
Nothing like Fender reverb.

Was the bright switch on?
really not the sounds you might expect to hear from a fender amp! awesome
There’s one on the local marketplace for 500
Sounds like Roky Erickson!
Thanks, a very nice compliment!
Great amplifier, but they are so frickken loud!! Old school stage amps
Does anyone have and recommendations for an amp that can sound like this butt at low volumes?
This amp with an attenuator would sound very close. I use the Ironman 2 for bedroom volume level but a Power brake is good enough down to 12dB
Haai! 🦈
Heavy little amp!
Did you say it had celestions?
Pretty sure he said Rola speakers.
The amp is monster but the speaker sucks.
